I'm loving this practical tour through the Apple ecosystem, David. I'm a recent convert to the studio display and it's been the final piece of the puzzle in my desktop setup. The little conveniences it provides with webcam and audio and overall quality makes you wonder how you lived without it, and it's probably saving my eyesight. In reality, the price point is in line with high end professional monitors from previous generations which were sold on dependability and accuracy rather than bleeding edge features. Seamless integration comes at a premium with Apple but as you said, it pays dividends. I used to envy Silicon Graphics workstations back in the late 90s, which cost upwards of $20k. The ability to have a prosumer setup for less than half of that is something I didn't think I'd see when I was building PCs, stressing over component specs and trying to get everything to work together.

You know, David, you touched on a very serious topic - the issue of an effective, useful, healthy work environment. In fact, this is not such a simple question as it might seem at first glance. No, seriously: this is a whole science, which itself stands at the intersection of many areas of human research: physics, engineering, medicine, time management, psychology, learning theory, efficiency theory and many others. This is a real Universe of Knowledge, which can and should be carefully explored. The value of an effective and healthy work environment cannot be overstated. I would really like people to develop this direction and share with each other the most useful knowledge and effective tools for creating the Best Possible Working Environment. Problems of progress and development are always associated with problems of labor productivity, the effectiveness of methods and overall human health.

Yes, but apps like Lumafusion make very good use of it so I guess the app makers are responsible for that. On the other hand, if I want to see a good movie I take my Ipad to the living room and cast or stream it to my (Apple)tv and surround system, that gives a far better experience. I’ve developed Windows-based app (no this is not a commercial) and I did most of that using my various MacBook Pros supporting various virtualized environment of Windows. Could the iPad support those kind of operations - yes, I’m pretty sure it could as far as the hardware goes. Is there a market for that kind of functionality? Probably not but besides that I can do almost everything I want or need to do on my 13” M4 iPad Pro 1TB…yes, 16GB RAM. Keep on the great work on you videos!

I’m watching this video with my iPad Pro connected to my external 17 inch 4k portable monitor. I disabled the auto lock feature so I could close up the iPad Pro keyboard case and place it behind the monitor and use the iPad Pro’s speakers for better sound. I’ve connected up my Logitech MX Master Keys and Mouse 3. I know it’s not super complex but I enjoy the fact that I can watch content this way and go into split screen, stage manager or even have the video full screen on the second display and have other things on the iPad Pro Display, itself. Not all multitasking requires some complicated setup. For me, it’s usually just a couple things at a time. Editing a video and letting it render on a second screen, while editing the thumbnail in Pixelmator on the iPad. Thanks for sharing how you use it!

@@DavidLewisTech I’ve had people ask me why I cared if I could play audio out of my iPad speakers or iPhone speakers when connected to a monitor. Like, they thought I should use headphones all the time or connect to a Bluetooth speaker. But, there are times when I’m at home and like to just connect my iPad up to a monitor for a bigger display and the iPad audio is so damn good or my wife will be watching something on our Apple TV and using my AirPods Max and I’ll just use my iPad & monitor setup. I do wish there was a good little stereo speaker setup that supports the same Dolby Atmos that the iPad does and could be clipped on to any monitor and uses either Bluetooth or AirPlay. I have been using my dual Bluetooth dongle from Periodic Audio to connect my IEMs and be able to switch back and forth between my iPhone and iPad with a click of a button, when I want more isolated audio or when the AC is on. Sometimes, it’s nice to be able to have the iPad connected my 17” 4k monitor and have it at a little distance and be able to get up and walk to get a snack or take a bathroom break and continue to listen. AirPods or Bluetooth earbuds or my IEMs+dongle solution have come in handy for that. I think the idea that the iPad can be just a tablet but expand to be just about any other thing is a benefit over a MacBook in many cases.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, David! It's quite amazing because I use practically the same setup (M1 iPP 11" with MGK and ASD with nano-texture) and I must say I've rediscovered the joy of using technology in general. Common desktop OS just feels ancient or archaic to say the least. I think iPad represents what a computer is. Everyone gets it. Traditional desktop OS started this way many years ago but have now become a crowded space which reminds me of times when one had to have a particular skill just to boot up and work on a terminal. It's not fun. Keep up the good work though! Kind regards.

@@DavidLewisTechSomething just crossed my mind. In the video it looks like you’re using your Apple Studio Display (ASD) without a stand or riser of any sort. This way your iPad or Macbook blocks the bottom part of your ASD. I found myself facing the same situation and tried with a riser but later on realized that ASD already sits relatively high on my desk and additonal height would just make it non-ergonomic (kind of inverted version of looking down at your screen when your working on a laptop). There would be no issues if one could extend the MBA screen a little further away but it cannot be done. In the end I found a rather silly solution but it works for now. I moved a dock to the left side of the screen and resized all of my windows to sit above the part where MBA (M2, 13”) covers the ASD.

I'm sleep deprived so forgive me if I missed this in your video.I don't know if you use Stage Manager for multitasking, but it only works on a select group of iPads. You need the A12Z, or any iPad with Apple Silicon (M1, etc.) I never had the urge to connect my iPad to a display - I feel like with all that money going into a tablet it should stand on its own without needing a $300 keyboard or $129 pencil to make it useable. I had an iPad Air 4 and for some reason Apple chose not to port Stage Manager to the A14 chip and that really irritated me.
