Enjoyed the vid! But to clarify something for anyone watching now, the maker's of the game clarified that you do have to beat Dale to win the solo variant. The tier system just tells you how good you're doing overall.

I was confused at first, but then I re-checked the directions; The "Solo 2" game setup is different from the "Solo 1" (without the bot) in that Solo 1 is the same as a two-player setup (minus the goals).

I've always thought Suburbia was super-close to Castles, and it looks to me like the solo variation is almost the same. It's just "build the best you can... items get pulled off the market... see how high your score gets". You're right, the bot doesn't really need to be scored... it's only function is to suck away tiles. They have you place its tiles maybe as a learning tool???

It is close to Castles for sure. But I think they're different enough to have both, we do. I personally like Suburbia better, but Mike likes castles a wee bit better. But the solo variants are pretty darn similar, so I won't be doing a review for castles, solo.

this solo version doesn't seem to mesh. If you are trying for the highest points possible and there is a chart to tell you how well you did, why do Dale's points matter at all or why does he pay any money? In suburbia, is it possible Dale's actions would effect your board in some way?
