You can't find most anime in a single legal website. Some are missing in Netflix but available is Crunchyroll(also why sometimes ENG subtitles are missing?) vice versa. I don’t think any normal person would pay 4 different websites just to watch anime. Also why does Crunchyroll take forever to load in my country? Everything else runs fine but Crunchyroll is have a stroke.

After definitely not watching the first three episodes, I feel that Pon no Michi is less so an anime about Mahjong as it is an anime about the joys of having a space for yourself and friends to have fun, and just so happens to have Mahjong as an (admittedly large) engine of making those joys happen. As of now it is as slice of life as an anime can be, and it definitely is made for people who enjoy that genre (of which I am one).

Thank you all for the AMAZING support on this video! It seems that this anime is starting to get some smaller regional licenses (mainly in Asia). I was going to mention this series myself. There's three seasons of the anime, and it's fantastic. Season One may have been my favorite show the year it came out. I just want to clarify a thing about Riche's name. While it can be attributed to her background that she might be an ojou-sama (someone rich), It's actually derived from the name of Mahjong game variation that's popular in Japan which is also the variation played in the anime, that is called Riichi Mahjong. Her full name is Hayashi Riche which you can alter a bit into Hayashi Riichi which means fast Riichi, which you can regard as a strong offensive move in the game.

Honestly... was hoping for an anime just about Mahjong lol. We already have Saki for shonen Mahjong. I also enjoyed Afterschool dice club and that was just cute girls teaching you how to play various foreign board games. Sometimes anime don't need crazy complex plots honestly. The CGDCT (cute girls doing cute things) genre is pretty strong on its own and can just be a nice anime to watch a couple episodes here and there while you're eating or in the background while doing something else.

Ginko Sora is the girl in the series with light blue hair, a headband and is the female pro shogi player who has the same shogi master as the main character incase anyone has seen this show but doesn't recall the characters name.

Sangatsu no Lion is popular in the Seinen Sphere of the Anime Fandom not because of Shogi, but because of the characters, and relatable topics such as coming of age, depression/numbness, finding a "family" after losing yours, the slow climb/mentally fighting for a better life and slowly getting happier.. And much, much more. Don't just say 'oh it's just a shogi anime" and dismiss it. While Shogi is prominent, it is only truly used as a vehicle to tell the story - and is actually a minor part or the series.

No it is not illegal to watch this anime, nor is it illegal to watch anime on 'pirated sites', due to the legality of the matter being held solely responsible on the uploader, not the downloader/viewer. As a Viewer of content, you may freely watch pirated content all you want even if people cry about it. Plus there are so many great animes released this season that it's more likely there was just no air time available for this season's anime listings to slot it into any normal viewing times, and the studio is unlikely to settle with getting put at non-prime times. Toonami used to do just this years ago by airing a lot of new content very late at night 9:30 to midnight, and then reruns of old studio content from 12-4am. Which are very odd times. (Or at least the times were somewhere around there but changed whenever seasons changed or new animes were aired.)

All tv show watchers need a combination of shows that are well written and some where you can just sit, relax and just laugh or enjoy the funny experience. I like this show because it does not have a crazy well written story where I have to stay focused in seeing the story hints. This for me is a great show to have in the background for when I am doing some other work. As you mentioned this is a show that pays homage to other mahjong animes like Akagi, the legend of the gambler Tetsuya and Saki. I think this is a lovely show that is actually a gateway for people like you who have not seen these other older mahjong shows to actually look into them.

I enjoyed this as an "ok" anime. I just had the ability to have 0 expectations, and not needing too much to enjoy the anime. The events are mostly realistic, so it's a bit like watching an interesting footage compilation from a security camera. You just watch what's going on, and it might be relatively random. A bit like K-ON, although K-ON is clearly much deaper and well made. But the setting in Pon no Michi is cute. The parlor having a kitchen and stuff, and being in private use makes it feel so cozy for me. The girls and their friendship is also cute(with the uninteresting parts of their lives not shown). So, it's like a brain resetting anime. You turn off your brain while watching it, and relax.

MAhJong... Akagi and Saki are the 2 examples of anime that come to mind... not 100% sure if Akagi is wholly about that but Saki is...

Oooooooooooooh no way !! I didn't know there were a new Riichi Anime !! BTW : if you're suprised this anime referenced Kaiji, it's because it's not : it's referencing Akagi, by the same studio and author than Kaiji and it's about... Mahjong x) The author of Kaiji is a master of this game

There is a show about girls fishing that is similar to this one, and it has the first appearance of the girls of "Bochi The rock" as a band playing on a festival (about a year before the actual Bochi the Rock show). This one is finding its pace and episode 3 was not about Mahjong at all. The main problem with this show is that it defines "personality" as some kind of cute deffect, like eating too much or being too generous with money.

If no one likes Pon no Michi, that’s okay. I WILL LOVE Pon no Michi, like how I love the anime Saki, which is also a Mahjong anime from 2009.

Yes you can. Its on KZbin.😑. My bad. Stupid algorithm. It took it down. You can still watch it. I watched half from youtube and half other way. I won't tell how(just because someone with authority may take it down), but its probably not legally.

I was stationed at a mountaintop communications relay site outside the City of Fukuoka, on the island of Kyushu. The site's equipment was maintained a group of NEC techs. Since we were basically stranded on this mountaintop until our respective relief vehicles arrived to get us, there was a fair amount of down time. During that time the techs there helped me to learn Japanese and they taught me the intricacies of Mahjong. The game is sort of, IMO, a blend of poker and bridge.

This is one of the main reasons some of us are so anime obsessed that we take on the Herculean task of learning Japanese. When I visted Tokyo a few years back, I saw quite a few manga that most likely would never get licensed due to controversial content or the subject matter might not seem interesting to western audiences. So, a lot of us がんばって(ganbatte-try our best) to learn such a challenging language.

I don't know how to play Shogi but I have watched anime before where it's prevalent, and I actually have played Mahjong before (didn't understand too well what I was doing mind you) but it seemed fun in the moment. I also played Go as well with a coworker and apparently I was pretty decent at it because of its similarity to some other games I've played before. It's always interesting to learn about other cultures for me and that certainly includes forms of entertainment whether new and emerging or an old classic.

There's plenty of shows I can't watch legally due to some one sitting on regional distribution and thus banning streaming sites showing it here, there are ways around with vpn for those, but sometimes the sites get pissy about that.

There you go. American anime companies are mostly seen as gate keeping trolls that censor what anime they bring in. In this case, unless Mahjong becomes a popular games in the west, there will be more people talking about than actually watching it if this were brought over.

I don't understant... Ok, "Shion no Ou" is quite an obscure anime about Shoji, but a list a reference. But the thing that I understand even less is why not comparing it to Saki (that has more than one season and spinoffs) that is actually about Majong. Ok, talking about Saki is risky for demonetization, but not so risky in the end, and it was also pertinente, given that I spotted a reference to Saki in this anime (the way one character played her tile).

I mean, I've been interested in learning mahjong for a long time. It's essentially a more complicated poker that has more skill involved than normal poker games. I've looked up tutorials and got lost, I've watched Mahjong anime, but I barely learned about the game (only learning a handful of tricks without actually learning how to play) i fumbled around in yakuza playing mahjong, and I learned key words like "Ron" and "pon", but I never actually learned how to get to that point. Maybe this anome will give me some insite.

Define "open". Because, if we take the trouble to play with the licensing rules that operate in the entertainment industry as a whole, it's unlikely that the rights holders of such manga/anime will make their IP available without a considerable goal of financial return just only for the sake of accessibility. That's why I always say that, despite being a grayish ethical medium, scanlators and fandubs care more about niche entertainment than any legalized media outlet.
