I'm really surprised Lawson didn't commercialize the opportunity-like, imagine a cafe on the roof where you could sip a cold Strong Zero while watching the sunset over Mount Fuji! It seems like such a perfect way to enhance the experience for everyone. Sometimes, it feels like Japan might be a country of missed opportunities, opting for preservation over potential commercial prospects.
@JustAnotherJapanChannel6 ай бұрын
That would certainly have been a good play! Unfortunately, Japan is shy about change.

I saw on the news that the key point of the set of Lawson and Mt. Fuji, according to tourists. Fuji floating above the Lawson sign has become popular on SNS and has become a tourist attraction. But if you just want to see Mt. Fuji, there are plenty of other places to go, so setting up a cafe on the roof will not solve the problem. That's why the hospital in front of Lawson is being damaged, not Lawson.
@callmezoran6 ай бұрын
@@noxnox7445 I actually agree with you there. Building a café on the roof might seem counterintuitive, but it could subtly make the Lawson less appealing as a simple photo spot, which in turn could lessen the impact on the hospital nearby. At the same time, the owner gets to capitalize on the location's viral fame. A designated area for viewing could also help manage crowds more effectively, turning a chaotic hotspot into a more organized tourist attraction. It's a strategic way to embrace the fame while addressing the issues caused by the crowds. What do you think? Could this be a win-win situation?
@noxnox74456 ай бұрын
@@callmezoran That's an interesting point of view. But in the end, if you make this “residential” Lawson a hotspot, I don't think you can control the influx of tourist buses and road crossings. If you're watching the news footage, there are a number of problems with that. It's simply beyond capacity, so I think we need to come up with a way to disperse it. If we're going to completely eliminate the problem, we're either going to have to create hot spots in safer locations, or we're going to have to keep adding more Lawson's in spots where you can see Mt...

I’m an amateur photographer, so I obviously took a fair number of photos of Fuji-san during my recent trip, from Ashinoko, Omuroyama, Tokyo Park Hotel top floor, Enoshima Benten Bridge and also the sea candle and many other places, but I fail to see the appeal of a picture of Japan’s most sacred natural feature behind a frikkin Lawson’s! If you’re at Kawaguchiko, just go up the rope way at Kachi-kachi mountain for a good photo opportunity. On another note, as an anime fan I visited the point where the enoden railway crosses the road in front of the sea at Kokomae, and was completely respectful of traffic and other people. But, after waiting for a gap in the traffic, I stepped out to take a photo past the other assembled nerds, to be charged at by a furious old lady shouting’Get out of road!!’ And waving a banner about respecting Japanese customs. I do think maybe some of them take it too far, but also accept that they feel validated by truly disrespectful behaviour of a small minority. I just don’t understand why that sort of thing is a problem in Japan while taking a picture of Blackpool Tower or the Little Mermaid statue are perfectly ok.
@JustAnotherJapanChannel6 ай бұрын
I've done that ropeway! People in general take it a bit too far, both locals extremely against tourists and the tourists who do bad things. An old obasan waiting for you to do the smallest infraction so she can yell at you is the Japanese Karen basically! There hasn't been an issue taking the lawson-fuji photo for many years, but after the pandemic reopening, it seems that people after being inside for a few years, forgot that throwing trash on the ground and not caring about being in the way is considered rude when you're visiting a country.

It's unfortunately, but understandable. I hope they change their policy in time. If they do I believe they should implement foreigners having a permit of some sort. The permit must include classes taken by the individual that She/He are educated in the rules, mannerism, and respect of the culture. They can also pay for an assigned tourist guide to show them around, and hold them responsible while in the city.

I'd rather see Mt. Fuji with cherry or plum blossoms and tea fields.

Same, but you'd be surprised at how many flock to get a shot of a place you can get fried chicken and a mountain at the same time!

So, what you're saying is I should hurry up and move to Japan before the tourists force Japan to ban tourism altogether? Okay. I'm on it lol

If they really wanted to stop bad behavior with tourist they could either ban them from the country if they catch them doing something awful or worse make them clean public bathrooms for 6 months. These kind actions will not do anything but punish regular tourist since bad tourist/criminals don't care about the rules.

Absolutely you should, if this trend keeps up I'm worried a lot of places will be have restrictions on them! I have considered that, definitely! We shall see what the future brings!

Yo, Hva jobbet du som når du var i Japan med "Working holiday visa" , og hva jobber du med nå? Hvordan klarte du å etablere deg i Japan?
@JustAnotherJapanChannel6 ай бұрын

Comment appreciation for the best beard in all (viking) Japan. Japan at this point should take an exam to get into the country (?) and then taking a "shame picture" to post over Narita Airport and return to they lands.

Yeah definitely! It's just this particular angle, since there would be a massive amount of tourists there blocking the dental clinic and generally being in the way for the people who live there! There's always a few that ruin things for many, and I'm sure 95% of tourists in Japan manage to be normal people!

Why should the local feel disturbed to not able to see Mount Fuji above the Lawson. They can see it anywhere else and everyday when the sky is clear. For local resident of Kawaguchiko, take a photo of Mount Fuji above Lawson is not a thing. Why should local resident have to always tolerate foreign tourist for a thing that so unimportant as taking photo of Mount Fuji above lawson and sacrifice their peaceful life when there are plenty other places to see Mount Fuji. For tourist, there are many place where you can take photo of Mount Fuji. You can even take it from Tokyo when the sky is clear. Basically you all only care about your interest for some silly thing like this and not think about how local resident feel at all

@@hariacc What are you on about? I've SEEN Mt. Fuji. It was lovely, but nothing in my comment was about my interests at all. As you've mentioned, anyone can see it at MULTIPLE locations. The comment was about Japan not really being able to cater to tourists (and over-tourism, especially after the pandemic) without "banning" everything + making it a one-size-fits-all situation. The locals should be able to do what they want in THEIR area. If I lived near a landmark and saw it everytime I went to a grocery store, I wouldn't want it covered up at all! They've still not even figured out the bus situation in Kyoto. Its a mess! But what I will say is that Japan is NOT at fault for the type of tourists that arrive in Japan. They're annoying and disgusting, and we can at least agree on that.

@@AndSoWeLaughed Sorry, when I wrote "you all only care about your interest", it is about the tourist that doing thing that disturb local life in unproper places and not you specifically. To be honest I just want to comment about this in general and just pick to reply your comment. Hell, maybe I also have disturbed the local when I visit Japan pre covid. But I think the tourist problem seem to intensify post covid. Lucky for you to have seen Mount Fuji, I really want to seen it especially from place like kawaguchiko but i am not that lucky (it was always cloudy when i went to kawaguchiko)

@@hariacc if you want to see it I would recommend not actually going to Hakone. I saw it TWICE on the bullet train and once somewhere else can’t remember. But when we went to hakone for the boat ride it was too cloudy. Of course! I think we all have unintentionally because of the culture differences. But they had the tourist issue before covid and there’s a HUGE backlog of visitors post covid. They had up to 3 years to come up with new ideas (although I get we were all dealing with much more pressing issues); they campaigned for locals to travel so a bit contradictory and were closed much longer after the pandemic “settled”.
