Brought back so many memories - although difficult, I did enjoy the beep test at school. It was an event where people couldn’t pick their team mates (me usually being last!) and it was just you against yourself. Having said that, I think I’ll leave giving it a go again at my age 😂 well done to all involved, including Rick (amazing to see you!). Sarah’s running has improved so much since she trained for her marathon - keep it up, lady! 💪🏻

@@DevonPixie1991 my school pe classes are such a similar experience. I'm 30 and love exercise. It's great for my mental health I love feeling strong and trying stuff. I HATED pe. The teachers, I'm pretty sure hated children. I'm actually really angry in hindsight that they took something that should be joyful and turned it into something I cried about regularly. Same as you, I started walking just to get out of town, and wanted to go further and started cycling, and realising that it can be fun and social, and let you see new places. I found out the countryside existed. And parkrun. And group sports without passive aggressive school bullying.

But I am 30 years older than that best score.

I wanted to Sarah for the win, but went by Andy. We did not do this pacer thing in school in Finland. Well, we had a version but it was for sit-ups not running. We did cooper test every bloody year. Over all at least my class didn't do a whole lot of running. Most of the running was either track or hurdles. Autumn was for track & field as well as some Finnish baseball. Winter was skating, ice hockey, or skiing mostly if too cold then inside playing something. Spring was for inside activities like basketball, floorball, gymnastics, swimming, trying different sports etc.

I finished high school in the mid-80's here in the U.S. and this wasn't even a thing back then. However, I ran Cross Country & Track for four years so I never did a standard P.E. class (if you were in an organized school sport or marching band, you were excused from standard P.E.). My daughter has told me about these pacer tests as she's in high school now and as much as I love running, this does NOT appeal to me. Then, heading out in the pitch black of the early morning for a run before work on a Sunday probably does not appeal to most people either.

I finished school in the 1970’s so this wasn’t even a “thing”! However, it was part of my hockey fitness regime & can’t say it was enjoyable, but did get the competitive juices flowing!! As well as being eliminated for missing a bleep, our coach eliminated us if we got to the turn too early! Perhaps the team ought to repeat the challenge in 6 months time?!
@orangew39882 жыл бұрын
As a teenager, sweating was like the most embarassing thing you could do at school. The only week worse than the bleep test week was 'cross country', where the teachers put ten cones around the field, and basically sacked off the whole week, just told us to run round the cones and count how many laps we could get in 45 minutes. I remember in year 10, I was so over this piss poor 'physical education' that I set off walking. Who knew that 15 years later I'd have a decade of rugby under my belt!
