I did the same conversion with a Pearl export kit,ordered maple hoops and got an emad/remo emperor coated and man it's got some balls.Have an embassador clear w/porthole sounds great but deadens the sonic boom.

Cameron Bauldry thanks I really appreciate it. Since the build, I’ve used this kit more often then the others that I have. Love the 22 in kick but it helps when u mic the 16in kick to give a bigger sound. On Facebook I posted my most recent pic with the kit adding a 14in as an extra floor tom and it was amazing. facebook.com/100013566993024/posts/527586181036944/

+MayburyMayhem bro that’s exciting!! I would definitely like to see the finished product. Send me a pic or post if you make a video. Also instead of a pillow use a small baby blanket or fleece, it’s lighter and will go a long way to dampen the sound.

I have to share something with you. I reconditioned an old cheap Mapex kit . When I changed the cheap metal hoops on the bass drum that improved the sound so much that it sounded like a very expensive kit . So never under estimate the sound improvement that wooden hoops will have on a bass drum no matter what size it is. Peace love your work .

Nice video. Just to add... for those that don't want to go the wood hoops route and just stay with the metal rims. Evans makes a 16 EMAD tom head (identical to the 16 EMAD bass head) that fits on rims. I have it on my converted 16 " tom to kick and it sounds awesome.
@castrodrums7 жыл бұрын
Dave Parfitt Thanks for the comment bro!! For those reading this, what did you do to rise the metal hoops/drum off the ground? I had to make a wooden riser with a dip for the metal hoops but would like for you to share your solution. Thanks again for sharing

Pearl makes a conversion kit for their drums (2 legs and a post to raise the floor and connect the pedal.) I bought an omnimount to attach that post.

Just wondering, where did you source the hoops? I've been playing a converted 16" floor tom with the original tom hoops for a while now and I want to swap out the hoops and heads this summer.

You can find them online, I had a local drum company Setup my kick and hoops for me.

I bought a used Tama Catalina set for $250 with an 18 kick, 10, 12, 14 inch toms and only use the 18 kick and 12 / 14 toms, BAM already done no ordering partz with less money and no down time. Came with hardware , cymbals and kick pedal just sayn 😁😏😎

I did this conversion 8 years ago since I was moving and couldn’t bring all my gear. Improving on what I did I want to go wooden hoops, which is how I found your vid. Do you have the specs on the hoops you used?
@LivingDisciplesMedia4 жыл бұрын
Gilbert Rodriguez no I’m sorry I don’t have the exact specs except it was a 16 in floor Tom wooden hoop. It was sent off to a very good friend who was able to get it done. I was suppose to revisit but haven’t since this last taping. His company got much recognition and was difficult to rebook.
@timchurchill11667 жыл бұрын
where did you purchase the hoops and longer screws
@castrodrums7 жыл бұрын
The floor kit conversion was arranged by 7 Drums. They did the entire setup minus the skins. You can check them out (www.7drums.net) as they do custom reconstructions of any drum you may have.

Hi, Sebastian. Can you tell me the size of the hoops please?
@castrodrums7 жыл бұрын
Mine is a 16in floor tom so based on the drum conversion you decide to do, you’ll need to get the matching hoops size.
@rafaguilarsol1017 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Mine is a 16in Floor tom too. I already did the conversion but I'm using de metal hoops of the florr tom.

All you did was save room diameter wise, the depth of the bass drum is where you save stage space.

Unless you plan to spend some serious cash for the bracket that allows you to attach your BASS DRUM PEDAL (you kinda need that pedal),to your floor tom, you REELY NEED wood rims. Come on......
@castrodrums7 жыл бұрын
Gene Williams thanks for the comment, the bracket that allows you to attach your BASS DRUM PEDAL is not expensive at all. To be honest, I did research and bought the Gibraltar SC-BDPM Bass Drum Platform for $27.99. Also if you’re trying to save money on the legs to hold up the drum just like I did, I ended up bending the original floor tom legs in an L shape and has worked out so far. Now wooden hoops is a personal preference, but you can use metal or wooden. I chose wooden because I wanted to make my kick drum look more like a kick drum but it’s all your personal preference.
@genewilliams6177 жыл бұрын
My bad on the price assumption. Been more than a few years since i considered one. But, gotta have wooden hoops to look like a bass drum. Of course I'm old school, so maybe that colors view.
