Purpose: So that saints not be discouraged that so few consider in Christ
“WHAT myriads of eyes are casting their glances at the sun! What multitudes of men lift up their eyes, and behold the starry orbs of heaven! They are continually watched by thousands-but there is one great transaction in the world’s history, which everyday commands far more spectators than that sun which goeth forth like a bridegroom, strong to run his race. There is one great event, which every day attracts more admiration than do the sun, and moon, and stars, when they march in their courses. That event is, the death of our Lord Jesus Christ. To it, the eyes of all the saints who lived before the Christian era were always directed; and backwards, through the thousand years of history, the eyes of all modern saints are looking. Upon Christ, the angels in heaven perpetually gaze. ‘Which things the angels desire to look into,’ said the apostle. Upon Christ, the myriad eyes of the redeemed are perpetually fixed; and thousands of pilgrims, through this world of tears, have no higher object for their faith, and no better desire for their vision, than to see Christ as He is in heaven, and in communion to behold His person. Beloved, we shall have many with us, whilst we turn our face to the Mount of Calvary. We shall not be solitary spectators of the fearful tragedy of our Saviour’s death: we shall but dart our eyes to that place which is the focus of heaven’s joy and delight, the cross of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (The New Park Street Pulpit, Vol.4, p.65).

This is such a word for today, just been struggling with this, seems sometimes I'm on my own,surrounded by lukewarm Christian's focused on the world and not Jesus and the message of the gospel, chocked by the cares of this world, these are the last of the last days we need to be incuriging each other in our faith

All talk is small talk that doesn't center around Christ. It is only He who has no ending, He who is endlessly deep and wide.. All talk comes to a dead end but that which is of eternal life. My friend and I were just talking about this very thing yesterday...idle talk is merely tolerated in order to build it up and usher it into that open door that luminates the glory of God to those who hear. I pray for humbleness and humility on each journey I take in each every circumstance. I pray that I am pleasing to Lord and not obnoxious.

this isn’t just a philosophy, but it is the truth, and it’s reality (john 14:6). GOD came unto the earth in the likeness of man and HE took the lowly position of a bondservant (philippians 2:7), not to be served, but to serve, and to give HIS Life as a ransom for many (matthew 20:28). we are not saved because of our own goodness/works, since no one is good (morally perfect), except One, that is, GOD (mark 10:18), but we are saved by the unmerited love and favor of the LORD through faith in HIM and what HE did for us (ephesians 2:4-5). every man is given all he needs to live a godly life through the knowledge of the LORD (2 peter 1:3). each and every one of us must confess of our sins to the FATHER, we must repent (acts 20:21), and we must strive to live our lives all to the glory of GOD in every aspect (1 corinthians 10:31). if we confess our sins, GOD is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness (1 john 1:9). when you’re a new creation in CHRIST, old things pass away and all things become new (2 corinthians 5:17)!

What really does it for me is the fact that I cannot please God. I cannot please Him because He has already been pleased by the righteous one. Such peace. Repentance was seeded in my by the part of the gospel that says He died for my offenses but recently I have been growing because of the part of the gospel that says He LIVED for my inability to live for Him.

I've spent years looking for a local church that believe and preach what you just said faithfully. All I hear is how then shall we live without who Jesus is and what He has done. When will I be happy? Everything is going against me, nobody really likes me. Life is just hard right now and I don’t want to live like this anymore but I can’t get out of it, I’m just stuck. It feels like God is hitting me and punishing me but I never get delivered.

I believe that God is further showing us we do not belong to this world, and by separating us from earthly comforts, we cast our eyes upon the one thing that truly has worth, and that is the person of Jesus Christ. Thank you Pastor Paul! You encourage me as a christian to keep my eyes focused on what is important, the Lord Jesus. My mom attends the Mormon church on and off with my dad and she said the discussion was about “Crosses”. Mormons do not believe they should display the cross or focus on it…but I told my mom THE CROSS IS OUR VICTORY, it is our hope as a sinner. This devotional is perfect timing!
