My comfort eating is worse than my comfort shopping because I can still walk away from things I want to buy. I do it because just like with food (I eat what makes me happy not healthy) I buy what makes me feel good. It’s nice when someone compliments your bag or your shoes or your make up but I still know that they don’t really care, it doesn’t give me happiness. One of my favourite bags is a practical one not the most expensive one. The feeling of being worth the expensive bag never lasts for long but it’s hard to see and reconcile during your hardest times/ lowest points. This is how I personally feel and my biggest tell is how many faults I see in any item I have purchased. During one of my worst periods I would be shopping till 3am-4 am in the morning and manage on 4-4 hours of sleep.

An investment is only an investment if there is a buyer for the handbag. At the moment there seems to be a handbag hausse. I sense tulip bulbs in my bones. When the buyers start to dry up, your asset starts to depreciate. Economy classes are needed in my opinion. This comes from a vintage handbag "addict" the hunt is indeed true but when ou see what quality is being sold just because the handbag is branded is an eye-opener when you compare quality and the price for the vintage ones.

But what is most ridiculous about middle class women is that these designer brands DESPISE YOU and you PAY them to condescend you!! They DON'T WANT to be affordable to the middle class, they believe you are bad for their brand image! They want to sell to customers who can afford to own a fleet of bugattis. Have middle-class women no shame??

@perspectiveofme They do treat their choice of customers (rich/famous) well. Why do regular women aspire for validation from a handbag designer? That's not the brand's problem, that's the customer's problem. Private businesses that don't sell necessities, are in no way obligated to sell to everyone.

Not with bags but I think I'm at risk of developing that "hunting" addiction. I'm trying to limit my time browsing online shops and fashion content at least a bit. (It's not a status thing for me, I'm just a perfectionist who gets quickly unhappy with anything to do with esthetics)

I buy and use the next day! I hate hoarding actually, so i clear my items frequently when i don't want anything anymore. I am also selective in what i buy to minimise losses, at the same time accumulate credit card points for free airmiles to travel

I must be one of the few in the world who is not attracted to any Hermès bag so won't be joining any journey or whatever they might come up with. 😂 Does not mean I am immune to the "enchantments" of the luxury world, especially handbags. I guess it is all about experiencing and checking out what works best for you. In the end it is all personal. Over 10 bags is a lot for me due to my own lifestyle, however I got 15 right now and aiming to downsize when the time is right. 😅

Seriously, thanks for stating the obvious. Also, thanks for pointing out that a lot people seem to think that buying a luxury bag is a short cut to having style. I see so many people walking around with expensive bags and fast fashion clothes. They put in zero effort into how they look and yet spend thousands of $$$$. It’s baffling how people can spend so much and look so clueless. 🤦‍♀️

@@barbthegreat586 This ended up sounding judgier than I meant it to be. I realize fast fashion exists in for a reason and that not everyone can afford expensive clothes and not everyone has time to thrift their clothes. That said, people who can afford more ethical options but choose not to are saying that they don’t care about fashion or the greater good.

This is a great video. However, I would just like to mention that there are individuals who are able to enjoy and purchase luxury goods without having a negative impact on the finances. My husband and I earn a very high income. All of our bills are paid way ahead of time with a large amount of money left over. If I choose to purchase a luxury item it is not a big deal. I enjoy luxury items because of the quality and I tend to keep my items for years and years and years. It is not a status symbol but rather knowing my item will last for a very long time. Granted I put a limit on how many expensive items I purchase a year. I just want the creators of this type of content to be aware that there are people out there who can responsibly purchase luxury items. Thank you.
@jvnd2785

It's not luxury if there are hundreds and thousands of copies of the same handbag. True luxury is when you can hire services of a *local*, highly-skilled craftsman to make a unique, hand-stitched bag from the finest, locally-tanned leather and/or handwoven piece of cloth...just for you. That is luxury. Getting a Chanel bag with a serial number is buying into the (trashy) brand.

….. and some people work their tails off, spend/save/invest their money wisely and don’t live on credit. Difficult at first but my husband and I became reformed spenders and are now reaping the benefits. Our house is paid off; no car payments on either of our German cars; fly business class on international flights; can afford to buy high end designer goods, etc. Have high end designer handbags and shoes and could buy more but am secure enough about myself that I don’t feel the need that these items need to be high end designer. In fact, wanted a red handbag and the one I liked the best is by Coach - it’s being delivered today. Also, am dyeing red, pair of not high end designer ballet flats with one scuffed toe instead of buying new red shoes.

@@jvnd2785The real luxury is to buy what you love while affording it. Your tastes are yours. If someone prefers the Chanel bag, it’s their luxury. You cannot force it on others. I had jewelry made just for me and still buy pieces more well known in the luxury world. One thing I don’t do is to push others to spend their money how I spend mine. Luxury is very broad, it’s not a one fits for all!

I'd rather NOT show my social status. It's like poor people trying to lie and show false wealth. I'd rather just own only THREE bags. Backpack for work. Small leather purse black colour for going out. Large tote case for travels. That's IT. Addiction of anything is a result of emotional disfunction and related to OCDs. Buying something and later claiming it's an investment piece is just a comfortable excuse for oneself. Addiction of bags in this video becomes a problem is when you got no savings, over $10,000-$50,000 credit card debts and can't pay off the monthly minimum bills and, so many bags that you finally ran out of space to store them or you lie to your husband 'it's an old bag/you forgot I already own this/my friend bought this for my birthday/it's from my mother/I bought this at a 50% sale".

When i went to awards night they all have luxurious bags and when I meet high networth clients they are all in luxury brands. I only wanted to have 2 or 3 but then I suddenly realized It depleted my savings😢. Thanks to this video

It’s because society is collapsing and this triggers our primal desires to hoard items of value. Money might be worthless due to inflation but a tangible item like a Birkin can be a good investment.

The preloved market is flooded with Birkins and Kellys. If you don’t have a really rare one it’s hardly an investment. If you get one from a boutique you must play the game and spent thousands of dollars before you get offered one. If you by in the secondary market you pay double the regular price. I rather invest in gold, bonds or stock options. I lost a lot of money with my handbag collection. It was a good lesson learned 😅

@eleanorfleming2278 Obviously, she loves bags but also recognizes the obsession with them, hence the hoarding video. It indicates a problem.
