Great reviews Man! Some excellent high gain tones I'm going to seek out. Playing is spot on tight, keep them coming!

I get why everyone loves the G3, but i vibe with the G4 so much more... But.. to get it to sound amazing, i usually run into the loop of a tube power section... And most all of my tube power sections already have amazing pre-amps... So i dunno, i love those pedals, just dont find alot practical use for them...

I typically would just roll with one of my tube amps as my main tone. Some people actually don’t like tube amps, which I don’t get… but to each their own. Having everything on the floor in front of you sounds convenient for sure. I think this is a good type of thing to have on hand if your amp quits day of the show, or mod set and you need a back up. It surprisingly gets me 90% there compared to my EVH stealth.

Love this video, my dude! I've been using pedals through a power amp and cab as my main rig for the past year. Really wanting to try that amped 1. I'm using a mooer baby bomb, it's fine, but I like the "tube emulation" and the post eq options on the amped 1. You got this rig sounding killer. Buuuut, everything sounds good through that cab 😂.
@BaritoneGoatStudio3 ай бұрын
@@billyturk8117 yeah, the “golden era” Mesa Cabs can’t really sound bad at all. The amped 1 is the best version of a solid state pedal amp I have used so far, and it actually has a decent built in reverb that I didn’t even touch on here.

A preamp mixer pedal helps take this type of setup to the next level.

@@GregMerritt-ws8tq do you have a recommendation? I have a Source Audio Zio front end preamp/boost pedal. I considered adding it to the chain.

@BaritoneGoatStudio To be honest, I'm new to that pedal class. If my memory serves correct, the video that made me aware of such was done by Silas Fernandes, and the pedal was called the KMA Tyler...I think. I gonna search it again to make sure now. Lol

@@BaritoneGoatStudio I've been starting to think that, as a metal musician, the things I should outright collect are dirt pedals and loudspeakers, for the types of sonic variety that would do it for me.
@BaritoneGoatStudio3 ай бұрын
@@GregMerritt-ws8tq yeah, the things that change the majority of the tone and feel are at both ends of the signal chain. Overdrive pedals can shape the initial signal and the speakers will give you the final EQ curve. There is a lot to it overall, but more and more the amp is the thing I see as being somewhat interchangeable. I can get similar tones from my Recifier and EVH 5150 when using the same speaker and overdrive. It mostly becomes a question of how much gain and how much of a certain frequency so I want to have on tap? Both amps can kind of meet in the middle, but they can also do extreme things the other can’t.

@@GregMerritt-ws8tq right? It sorta pulled in the low end and bumped that upper mid thing. I think the curves they are applying might be slightly exaggerated.

i got good results with a revv pedal thru a cabsim. pretty legit

@@therealone1288 I did that when I first got it. Just plugged it into my interface and loaded up an IR. It actually sounds pretty good. STL makes a modeled power amp in the their Amp hub software that sounds really good too.

I've been thinking about the G3 alot and trying it with my fender bassman, good for thrash I assume?
@BaritoneGoatStudio3 ай бұрын
It has a pretty dramatic mid cut when you scoop it and enough dynamic range in the EQ to dial in a thrash tone. I think the gain itself sounds good enough to use as a distorion pedal in front of an amp or in the effects return. If the bassman has a presence control in the power section, even better.

So ola did a video on a power amp called the gpa 100 which is only like 80 bucks but it only uses 220 volts But on ebay theres a 110v version for about $100
@BaritoneGoatStudio3 ай бұрын
I just looked at it. Very basic design, but if it works! I think you could use somthing like that with some sort of FET boost or even just a more complete preamp and it would be killer. The Joyo Rigel preamp to me almost is as good, and in some ways has better features than this Revv does. Which is crazy!

You actually can do better than the BOSS SD-1 for an over drive I found that I have on my board for a few years now that is just better and doesn't color your tone. I actually run this pedal with a couple other choices always on my board. Its Calines Capt Silver CP-76 and it has the TS9 and TS808 options both on this pedal. The TS808 side really shines for me and tightens up any amps flubby bottom end. You can pick this pedal up for about $40.00 new and you will not regret it. It really does well with slightly already overdriven channels, and for high gain will give you that awesome extra push you need.

@@Durkhead I think the katana also takes pedals well. I had always preferred to use an external boost with the katana. The built in ODs always sounded a little dry to me. If the katana had a XLR out and the ability to add custom IRs, that would really kick it up a notch. The class AB power section is nice though. It can get super loud, and the pedal baby is similar in that respect. I may still grab another katana now that the MkIIs are cheaper.
