Over the weekend, we had a makeup event for Mega Rayquaza Elite Raid Day, which means plenty of Pokémon GO players may be feeling disheartened for not getting a good Rayquaza. However, you don't need a Perfect IV for it to be useful! In this video, I will be talking about just how good this Pokémon can be, even if it is not good IVs!

Sadly there is no search string to identify levels. “CandyXL” or “!CandyXL” Will show Pokémon that are at level 40.5 and above or 40 and lower (respectively).

That's a fun approach for sure, but if you do PVP which everyone should it's one of the best sources of stardust in the game (especially master league is insane stardust) easily free 50k dust a day once you're good at it. So if you want stardust and rare candies and to work on your platinum medals to reach level 50 then you do need to care about IVs at least a little

i have a f2p friend and probably plays the most cost-effective way when i comes to powering his mons up. he just powers up mainly lucky pokemon thats 15 attk and he has like a whole team of em. all meta relevant. Alot of people in my community strive for the hundo and have only 2-3 pkm maxed for each typing with half of the team lacking. Also people are hesitant to power up their mons due to limited stardust and that "feeling" of if they get a better one which is something i tend to stay away from. Power whatever you want but do keep in mind a team of meta pkm powered at a decent level will make you go far imo.

This, I just focus on 15Atk. DPS is one of the most important factors for raiding (main context for good/bad ‘mon). Getting them lucky is a great move for cheap power ups! Smart friend there

Hundo has approx. 5% more damage output than 0/0/0. So, 10/10/10 Rayquaza will deals just less than 2.5% less damage than a Hundo. If you can find 15/10/10 rayquaza it will deals same amout of damage with hundo with minimal less bulk. They will both do almost same quality of damage . With a bit less TDO in raid attacking. You won't even feel it. Only thing that really matters is when you're doing pvp seriously. Not being hundo WILL flip few matchups. (At same level) Especially, mirror match.

⁠​⁠@@german2507sadly you cannot easily identify the level - you have to ‘decode’ the stardust cost. The search string “CandyXL” or “!CandyXL” can help narrow Pokémon to above 40 or 40 and below. One thing to consider is - is it worth the extra dust to max40 a Pokémon or is it better to spread dust/candy across two pokemon at a slightly lower level - noting that dust/candy cost constantly increases but cp gains decrease - with notable slow down from level 35.

1st lucky trade then see what your options are. Lucky pokemon start high on ivs and take less to power up. Especially if 71 and 80 are your options rn

Agreed! I powered up a 89 from go fest 2023 to level 40-ish. Double moved a few months ago. no regrets. Didn't know about lucky trades back then; i highly recommend doing this to any you caught recently (if you are wanting better ivs with the reduced stardust power-up cost).

I did a lot of necrozma raids, and was disappointed I didn’t get a 100%. But with all the shinies I got and the lucky trades I did, I have 3 shiny lucky 96% and 1 shiny 98%. I now realize that those are good enough to power up and not having the 100% doesn’t matter.

I appreciate you making this video. Everyone gets so hung up on IVs. Yes, they are important, but as you mentioned there isn't a giant difference between 10/10/10 and 15/15/15. I do not have a shiny, but have a lucky 12/15/15 which I use all the time. The one thing to consider is how many meteors you possess (if you didn't know, you need a meteor to teach Rayquaza a special move before you can mega it). Definitely mega Ray Ray, but be aware that meteors are very rare. I can't afford to power up pokémon for the Master League, but does anyone know how a perfect stacks up with the 10/10/10 floor?

I’ve been told it only really matters in the highest forms of pvp meta when you’re against the same mon then you’d want the best IVs, it really is a minuscule difference. A 2.5 percent damage difference will almost never change the outcome of raids

I personally wouldn't, maybe to level 40 if you really really wanna do it but no higher as Rayquaza always comes back and you can always trade or get another chance at getting a better one. Getting a 96% with 15 attack I think would be good enough to level 50 and maybe level 60 whenever that comes out.

Good video, CJ. I do think at times IV's tend to get over-hyped, especially by those who are 'Gamer Min-Maxers.' It feeds into the exclusivity of RNG based games (which keeps people hooked on the games). It's not enough to have a Rayquaza, you need to have a 15-15-15 Rayquaza. Or better still, a 15-15-15 SHINY Rayquaza. FOMO kicks in from that point and players will drop serious money into not missing out. PoGO is not the only game that feeds off that 'exclusivity.' (very ironic) I saw videos from other KZbinrs who'd done close to a hundred Rayquaza raids for this event looking for that Shiny Hundo and was just dumbstruck at the money being put into it when calculating for raid passes/remote raid passes. And yes, there's undoubtedly a benefit from having the 15 point boost to damage,defense,stamina. But it's been explained by a lot of people that When you're looking at a Level 50 pokemon, that 15 might end up just making 1% (or less) of the damage/defense/stamina output depending on the base stats of the Pokemon. And that's where the Min-Maxers come in: because in the quest for beating a raid boss solo, every % point counts, so of course, you 'need' to have that perfect 15-15-15, so that even if the increase is in the hundredths of a point (0.01), it's a hundreth of a point you didn't have before (even though Niantic has never revealed whether or not it rounds stats up or down when damage is calculated, and at what point the rounding is made: whole number damage? tenths of a point? (which means they are irrelevant) or hundreths? I'm enjoying the game a lot and I had fun during the Mega Rayquaza raid day. Didn't get a hundo, but got one I'm happy with and also got a shiny, without investing heavily in the event. But like the tagline for Pokemon goes 'Gotta Catch 'em All!' and Niantic knows this very well XD

FYI: IVs don't matter for most content. Pokemon damage breakpoints are not the right metric when it comes to IVs. You also have to consider overkill breakpoints.

My personal standards are above 90%, I have a shiny 98 and a lucky 93, both have dual moves, and both are mega. I have 4 more meteors ready to use. If you have 2 metorites you should absolutely mega your best one, or the shiny, for the mega benefits and sit on the other till you get a 96-100% IVs. That way your good one is able to be done and you can still get the benefits now

It really depends on your playstyle, if you're hardcore into PVP or Raids IVs 100% matter. Even if that stat difference is extremely small in certain situations that could result in winning CMP tie in PVP or having enough attack and bulk to take down a raid with seconds left. Doesn't help that as levels increase the stardust and candy investment becomes more expensive. With something as valuable as Rayquaza I'd make sure it's at least 93% with 15 attack, if you reach that criteria and can't get anything better then by all means level it up to your hearts content. If you're casual though then all this matters way less, 10/10/10 is really not that much worse than 15/15/15. My best advice is find someone willing to trade Rayquazas and try to get lucky from it, better yet become best friends with someone and then try to become lucky friends so your odds of getting a good Rayquaza increase immensely.

To mega or not is one thing - mega energy is somewhat easy to get - often 1-2 raids and you have enough. Powering up or worse maxing is a different story. Stardust, Candy, CandyXL far harder to get for legendaries.

I'd mirror lucky trade before doing this though. Mirror trade with 4 lucky friends and at least ONE of the trades should come out 91+%. Then dragon ascent and power that one up. (I just did the math...with 4 lucky trades the probability of getting at least one to come out 91+% is 15/16). So....make sure you're interacting with a bunch of people...continuously become lucky friends with them...and then use a lucky 91+% to power up.

The main reason I didn't want to mega evolve a Rayquaza was because of the meteorite, since before the make-up raid day, I only had one meteorite, and didn't want to waste my only meteorite on it, just for then to get a hundo and then be sorry that I wasted my only piece when I could have used it for the hundo. I got a 13/15/13 as my current best Rayquaza, but I am 50/50 with mega evolving this one, since I have a spare meteorite I can use as well as 800 energy.

I agree. I think IVs are over hyped. However I do understand the collector hype wanting a perfect and waiting. Just depends how you like to play the game and what you enjoy! But also… it’s a game. Don’t stress and enjoy it! Getting certain IV pokemon is mainly luck at the end of the day.

I always mega evolve a shiny, regardless of IV, because they look cool. A bad IV mega can still fulfill its purpose of mega bonuses. I save the trash IV mons for lucky trades or special trades for the candies before I transfer them. There’s always a chance they go lucky.

I was with a raid group for go fest that was stressing that they didn't get any Hundos for Necrozma. They had multiple 98% some were shiny and they were extremely dissatisfied. If you have a 96 or 98 Necrozma that should be good especially if it has 15 in attack...

He's a great raider and mediocre battler, which means high IV and a whole lot of mega. Since we always know if we're catching a hundo after a raid it defeats the excitement of getting a hundo. It's those hatches, or cycling through spawns that makes getting one cool.

People need to ease up their mindset about this game. I see people calling pokemon irrelevant when they are doing an average of 5% less damage then the best option... like relax, you arent soloing raids 95% of the time. People look at tier lists and think they are everything but you end up sitting around with a pokemon you like unused for years because one day something is going to outshine it. People dont know how to consider the lost potential for fun tied up in resource hoarding and how unfullfilling it really is when you finally get that perfect team of 6 and still have to have 3 more people raid with you anyway and it makes almost no difference to your clear time

I’d rather have a shiny Ray with 90%> IV than a Ray hundo. The shiny is the big must have. Ive a 15/13/15 shiny, and I use that. Same for Necrozma Dusk Mane, I’ve a hundo, but I maxed out the 96%IV shiny. But for Ray the shiny is more important due to its insane looking black appearance, instead of the lame green version.

I did not get a shiny Rayquaza or a high IV. I guess the best I got was a 3 star. It has poor stats though. After seeing this video I'm less worried about its stats. Thank you

I seen people telling a person to wait for a hundo on the facebook groups. And the person had a 96% shiny. Like seriously. Wtf would you wait. It’s essentially a hundo. The difference isnt even going to be noticeable.
