When "You Don't Say" premiered in 1963, the emcee's podium was in the middle of the desk, but Mark Goodson and Bill Todman sued Ralph Andrews Productions for plagiarism, citing the set was too close their hit show, "Password". The podium was moved to the left.

Co-produced in association with Paramount because Gulf & Western acquired it when they bought Desilu Productions--it was developed under their auspices.

In addition to it's long (1963-69) daytime run, the original "You Don't Say" also had a brief prime-time run in 1964.

From 1/6/1969,You Don't Say airs until its final telecast on 9/26.Replaced by Bright Promise a week so later on NBC's Daytime Program Schedule.

The original You Don't Say (along with Match Game and Eye Guess) were canceled in 1969 because NBC wanted to get more into the soap opera game. CBS had almost a monopoly in soap operas in the 1960's.

I wouldn't say that...in fact I'd say that if ever there were a game show to have a return, it ought to be this one. It is a kind of variation of Password---in fact, Goodson/Todman (Password producers) tried to sue Ralph Andrews Prods. ..... In later versions of YDS, I understand that the celebs were given the clues beforehand; I like this better, where they had to think of a clue.

Lays got Buddy Hackett to replace Bert Lahr after his death?
@armorybrunotjr.32044 жыл бұрын
There is a funny Fritos spot with two astronauts on the moon and they encounter the Frito Bandito, who is a parking lot attendant. Mason Adams does the voiceover. Yes, Buddy Hackett succeeded Bert Lahr as Lay's spokesperson in 1967 after Lahr's death.
