Thank you for the video. Entertaining and educational. First world problems for sure ;) I have many Mofi lps and some sound fantastic and some inferior to the past reissues. None of this has to do with DSD transfering. As someone who has also been listening and participating in the discourse/conversation..uh..arguments lol since the Mofi using DSD transfers, I have to say it has been an education. I wish more folks would relax and learn a bit from the "science" of recording instead of trying to support their AAA purist mindset with confirmation bias. Even before this broke lose, my philosophy was "what does it sound like?". Without fail, if a Mofi or any other audiophile or non-audiophile reissue sounded inferior to another version it was due to mastering or source degradation. In one of the longest threads on Mofi product reviews by customers, very very few mentioned anything about something "sounding digital" and not one person definitively stated so. I have a hunch that on the rare occasion that digital (read cold analytical sounding) was mentioned it was once again due to a mindset rather than substance. I would like to see that blind test also. There was one done with Bernie Grundmans involvement, but nothing was conclusive. As I stated earlier, as once an AAA to vinyl only purist myself this has been an education. Folks digital has came a loooong way. Use your ears. And realize the reasons that a Mofi (or any other reissue) sounds inferior to a past interation is not due to DSD transfer but rather source and mastering. Thats a historical/time and operator issue not the fault of digital.

Thanks Morten. I was largely uninterested in the MoFi controversy, but I do appreciate always learning something while watching your content.

The funny thing is that Analogue Audiophiles actually enjoyed digital recordings.😀
I own a bunch of Mofi's SACD releases and knowing that they lied on label makes me hate their guts but that doesn't change the fact that their shit still sounds good, lol.

Yes, nobody likes a liar... unless it is a politician! 😄. Thank you for watching the channel!

The best video on analog , vinyl vs digital. There is to much nonsense and stupidity in the audiophile realm. Ps it’s nothing wrong with preferring vinyl but don’t claim it has some magical voodoo characteristics. Very good point about collecting vs best sound as well.

The MoFi thing did not affect me. I can see where people would feel cheated in a way. Good to hear from a professional though. Thank you. Love your channel 👍

As well as the tape itself degrading, the machine used to replay it is also a problem as head wear and relative mis-alignment, EQ discrepancy, degradation of the replay electronics would all come into play. These machines are going to be at least 30 years old by now. I imagine new tape heads would also be very hard to source for these machines If however, the tape has been perfectly stored, not suffered from oxide shedding, print-thru, etc and has been played a very limited number of times, then replayed on a well restored machine individually aligned to the tape I would hope excellent results would still be possible with today's A-D conversion?
@stjernholmreviews Жыл бұрын
Yes indeed it would. There are many examples of GREAT new transfers, but many of these are still loved for and restored using DIGITAL supertools to make them even better. It takes knowledge and skills to treat those old gems right, and get everything right as you describe it. Those skills are dying out, so it is really a race against time to get all the archives transferred.. Thank you for commenting and watching the channel!

well whatever mofi has been doing they are doing it wrong because they havent made a good sounding record ever!!! that includes the 70s, 80s and 90s, , we are getting close to the point where the master tapes are in such bad shape that digital is the only game in town, thats why i treasure my original pressings from the 50s and 60s,,,, nothing beats the sound of those

Yep...I have a first press bob dylan freewheelin I got inherited to me years ago. The sound quality from this beats anything I've ever heard.

The super high end 😂 RIAA filtering process and the buggy vinyl material made the difference between a digital lossless copy and a crappy RIAA coloured vinyl analog sound. The big misunderstanding is that they believe that the coloured sound is the original real sound.
@stjernholmreviews Жыл бұрын
Yes I agree. But obviously, the "colored" sound might be what the vinyl lover prefer, and nothing is wrong with that. Thats why I think it is one of the most important questions to ask one self, when hunting for solutions to your music playback. Like with the Klipsch speakers I reviewed, they might not represent accurately, but they give a great musical experience. Anyone should pick what makes them most happy.... OR... have both 🙂. Digital played through an analog rig still sounds better than a digital file. Sorry just a musician speaking not an audiophile
@stjernholmreviews7 ай бұрын
@budsmoker4201120 you are referring to what I would call "analog sweetening". It sometimes also work the other way. You could have a digital player with a DAC you like built in, fed into a digital amplifier via yet a A/D stage and end up preferring that sound over a direct digial connection. Some audiophiles would go nuts by the very though from a "purity" standpoint, but I say EXPERIMENT! What you hear is the truth to you.
@budsmoker42011207 ай бұрын
@@stjernholmreviews right on, bud. How much is that DAC and how long will it be adequate? Also analog sweetening could play apart.... or it is just mixed better for vinyl.
