I have Gen 1s i only replaced when party members could start to here the charging whine because the headset was wearing out. i replaced them with gen 3 a50s because i needed a replacement, and a month later the Gen 4s were announced. I'm getting to the point i will need to replace them again soon, but im holding out for the Gen 5s which im sure are in production because of the Series x/PS5 releases. im tempted to try other brands, but Astro has always served me well so im hesitant to do so.

Best headset i've ever had. Been through many others. Anyone complaining about disconnects its not the headsets fault. Lower your router wifi signal. It's the same frequency as the a50. Had my a50 for 2 years now, still going.

Absolutely love the A50s. I pitch them to my friends all the time. I am still using my Gen 2 headset that is 7 or 8 years old. the $300 price tag has paid for itself MANY times over the thousands of hours I have had these riding on top of my head. Only watched this video to see if its time to get a refresh on my old headset.

I had my Astro a50s for like 4-5 years now. Still running good but I broke the Head cushion part. The sounds kinda cracks slightly here and there so I figured I’ll go ahead and treat myself. I just got the new a50s and I’m glad I stayed with astros. Sooo sooo smooth and I like the new futures . Great video!!

Great review. Just picked this one up. Coming from a astro a50 gen 2, this is a huge boost. Only thing that was weird, was the solid white light when its fully charged. I expected a red light lol. Besides that, i'm lovin it.

There’s alot of difference between the A40 + Mix amp Pro & A50 A40 are a bit lighter than A50 Mic and 3.5 is removable so if messing up you can replace it other than the A50 has built in mic The A50 Dock sometimes turns off by itself The A40 is a bit easier to change rather than having to press couple times on the A50 A40 are open back A50 are close back 👍

Correct on the first points, but the rest aren't quite right. I have no idea what you mean by "Dock turns off by itself". Genuinely confused as the dock is connected with a power cable and has no on/off option. Also, not entirely sure what you're saying is easier to change on the A40? And lastly, the A50's with the default earcups are way closer to being open back than closed back. Astro has called them "semi-open back" themselves. The mod-kit earcups definitely change them to closed back. But like you said, they're not the exact same headset when using the a50's wired, but it's pretty close.

@@villerasku easier to change as in game to chat volume I’ve had both headset and the dock loses connectivity with the headset so people would have to unplug it and plug it back into the usb also i had a buddy who’s mic on the a50 messed up so they had to send him a whole new headset luckily he still had warranty but Great review👍

I will never buy wireless again, i bought the a50 gen 3 and after about a year, the mfr would start dropping audio/chat input randomly. A40 TR & Mix Amp Pro TR for me now. 👌🏻

Excellent review sir. I would suggest for people on the fence of getting this or not. Astro A40 TR: Because of the cable, if you're always stationary on a desk (console or PC) Astro A50: If you're mainly on a couch/tv setup or just want to live like a King with the wireless feature I've had my Astro A40TR for years now. Still solid. I didn't like the MOD kit. The leather cups were comfortable, there was a lot of isolation. But it downgraded the sound quality by at least 50%, really bad. Just an fyi

I have the A50 gen 1 as well. I changed out the battery once which wasn't hard to do. The volume knob is jacked, but I can't find a replacement knob to change it out. Excellent headset. Debating if I want to buy a new A50 or Audeze Penrose. Both same price.

Of course! But that's the beauty of being able to change them, since they work as either open-back or closed-back. Which one you go for is just a matter of taste.

So I bought Astro A10 about a year ago, and I love how ridiculously durable that is, I did some bend test, drop test, even dropped in water once, it just still work, and imo it is the most comfortable gaming headset ever. One day I run across this A50 in hardware store and I say “fuck it, Astro deserve my money, I gonna get a top class gaming headset, and poke around see what’s up.” And I realized it was not the headset for me. I got a small desk that doesn’t have much place for a dock, and I mostly play MMO/RPG game on PC, I don’t own any play station or Xbox, a lot of the features this headset offers is not used since I bought it. Also in comparison A50 is a lot more heavier than A10, it is comfortable to my ears, but it is not comfortable for my neck.

Great video! The only downside to the base station charge is that is doesn't charge in rest mode on the Playstation 5. what I've found is that it will if something is downloading in rest mode but not if it's just in 'standard' rest mode.

I have yet to find any videos with people wearing these things. The only reason that concerns me is because I imagine they probably look pretty funny on your head which matters if your on zoom calls all day. I don't want to look like a teen gamer at work.

I do wear them in the video from 7.44 to 8.06. And they do look weird compared to normal headphones. I like the look of the headphones myself, just not when they're on someones head :D For me, it doesn't matter when they're on my head. But if it's a possible worry for you, then I strongly suggest trying to either find a place where you can try them on, or get them from a place with a good return policy.

Got these for just under 200 without tax in ebay brand new with a 2 year warranty making it a total of 230ish dollars. Coming in tomorrow and it will be my first Astros ever....after reading some comments I hope it last over 4 years. That to me would make the price I got these a steal!! And i believe it has the mod kit as well.

The problem with them is they keep dropping out and there is no fix for that with the Xbox series X. they sound great when they work though.

if you want noise isolation then don't buy an open back style headphone. For me, i hate leather-ish earcups because they get hot. Sound is also better when you download dolby access

I have a pS5 and Series X. Astro A50 was the only way to go for me since I can use these on both systems. Just buy a pair of these for either system, and just buy the base station for the other system. Then plug on of the base station optical to your tv.

as a welder that works in a foundry they grind the castings after we weld repair them to shape them there is a lot of metal dust around if i somehow get grind dust in there would the magnets be in a place that would short it out?

As an xbox series x owner am pissed off. Without optical to the xbox SX, I have to connect it via usb, can't use the EQ presets and the Headsets Surround settings, can't control game chat, have poor sound quality. Play with the xbox on a monitor, so no TV with an optical connection. For me it is no longer worth 300 bucks if you want to use it on the Series x. Anyway, good video.

Yeah, I don't really like the fact that the new gen consoles didn't include optical out. Seeing as the headset is a few years old now, I'm pretty sure a new one is coming that will have better support for the new gen consoles. But you are right. Just got a new PC cable from Logitech to my G PRO X headset. Well now it's coiled after one week just like the last one. Now I'm just wondering if Logitech just wants us to buy first tie wired one and then the wireless one after realizing how bad the wired one is. I've never used the Virtuoso line headsets but if I remember correctly the only real upgrade the XT has over the last gen model is bluetooth connectivity, and I've seen reviews say the the Virtuoso headsets get uncomfortable over time because of the full metal body. The arctis pro wireless works great if you want to be able to game virtually endlessly but I just couldn't justify keeping them with the lacking audio quality, but that's just me. I like to have booming bass occasionally.

All batteries start to degrade over time. It’s inevitable sad to say. But by time they do you should be ready to purchase the new ones whatever they might be 😂

I would say that this headset will offer fantastic performance in PvP games, when you get a good mix for it. In regards to being the best? I don't feel comfortable claiming that one is above all others. This headset has been the best headset for me, but seeing as that is subjective, I can't definitively say it's the best one for you.

I just bought mine 2 days ago..I play cold war, modern warfare, Madden and insurgency sandstorm...you hear footsteps very very well. Dolby and surround sounds are excellent. Worth every penny.

If what your asking is, is there a risk to the headset and dock in charging the headset when it's off, then no. Chargers these days are smart enough to control the amount of energy they let through. Especially a dock, like this one, will not "overcharge" the headset.

Just bought this headset and so far it is VERY different from what I had, which was the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2. Can you explain which presets you use for which games? I've been playing around with it for a couple of days and your presets are the only ones I am even close to liking. I don't want to return it, I would love to give it a chance because everyone says it's amazing, but I'm afraid it's a bit much. Thank you in advance!

So, from the folder, I use the "Tournament" one for all games where audio accuracy is important (Warzone, Tarkov, R6 Siege) and the "OmniVoxFS" for all of my cinematic experiences (singleplayer games, movies etc.). My third preset, "PureAudioBASS", I use for music and sometimes mixing. When you want accurate audio and you're using the "Tournament" preset, make sure to turn your Dolby mode OFF. It will ruin the accuracy. Thanks for watching!

I just got a pair for my birthday and I don’t think I got a good set because the audio cuts off whenever I watch movies on stream apps and also had a sizzle sound that was kinda dubstepish during music ques in movies and shows also the top head cushion keeps popping off and absolutely hate it so idk if I need to update the headset through the control center on a computer but I’m using these headphones for my series S however my turtle beach stealth 700 gen 2 works almost flawlessly but they are heavy on my head and the audio for pubg is garbage since the game was taken over by a new company that killed the game itself for most people anyways I need the best advice for what to do about the a50 gen 4 I got on the 27th of this month idk if I got a defective pair and should issue a replacement or go get a pair of arctic 9s my preference is over the ear and wireless connection I have big ears that require over the ear cups and also if a plus could be thrown in with the two I’d love a headset that can connect to my phone for music while gaming so please assist me before the return policy is up

I’d look into the new Turtle Beach stealth series pro headset… they are also Bluetooth. I just bought a series x and I’m debating on which headset to get but I’ve seen way to many negatives on the Astro A50’s as well as it’s base station. I almost bought the A50’s

Not worth it at all. Changing the settings is not easy. Set up not easy. It’s not Bluetooth. Save 100 and get arctic series 9x. I returned mine.

I don't exactly understand how the setup is not "easy" since the directions are pretty straight forward. As is the software. That is of course if you're not referring to using it with a ps5 which is a whole other thing. But nonetheless, it's not for everyone. Happy that you found a headset that fits you! I want to love these. I really do but the muffled sounding microphone is just so terrible. It genuinely prevents me from liking the headset. I have had a gamestergear P3210-I and the microphone on that is excellent despite it costing 1/5th of the price of the astros. The gamstergear mic legit sounds good on stream and such.

In my opinion. If you have the money to dish out for the Astro's without going bankrupt, I'd go for them. The Blacksharks seem like a decent piece of hardware but it comes with the same downside as all Razer stuff, and that is the requirement to use Razer Synapse which is just a terrible piece of software.

Dang. I was highly looking into these. But then you said not recommended for PvP. I play destiny 2 and some other games too such as Horizon. (Very versatile) But I’m looking for a headset that’s all around good. Thoughts?

I didn't say they're not recommended for PvP? On the contrary, they're absolutely great for PvP in my experience. Footsteps-wise I can usually pinpoint the enemies location way faster than most of my friends with all sorts of different headsets.

Ah but you don't have to wonder. The mic test in the video is entirely unedited so you can see how it sounds to you. I don't think it's great, but my general expectation from gaming headset microphones are pretty low.

@@villerasku I recently got mine and right out of the box it sounded pretty bad. I got Dolby Access and tweaked it and now it sounds much much more crisp. Did you have any problems with the audio right away?

@@kollu8896 Eh. I mean, mine sounded exactly like it does in the sample. But I've not tweaked it at all seeing as I use an external microphone anyway.

I just got these yesterday and it’s great in terms of sound and comfort but the charging is TERRIBLE. When I say terrible, I mean that the base station sometimes doesn’t recognize my headset because the bottom won’t touch the pieces on the base to charge. For an expensive headphone it shouldn’t have an issue to fit into the base station. Secondly, I hate the fact that it needs to be connected to a pc/console that will give it power or else it won’t charge. My pc doesn’t charge the base station when it’s off, so I have to connect it to a whole different device and then connect it back to my pc when I need to use it. Lastly, there have been multiple complaints I’ve seen with the charging in general and I wonder when it’s gonna be me that it’ll happen to. They also seem to not update or care about their astro command app, since it’s acting up for me. I think I might return these and go back to my astro a20s where I had a usb transmitter. I love these headphones but the charging issues is such a big dealbreaker. I’d rather go back to my a20s or get a wired headphone at this point.

Is the dock the best form of charging? No. Steelseries dual battery swap thing takes that. But you do learn the way to put it on the dock so that it works every time. On your second point. If you want it to always charge, you can connect the micro-usb cable to a power adapter and stick that into a wall socket. Then just use the optical or 3.5mm jack to connect the dock to your pc/console. That way it always charges even with your pc/console turned off. If you're always worrying and expecting a problem that someone else has had, I'm afraid your choices in gaming peripherals is going to be quite limited. But on the other hand, the best piece of gear is the one that you feel comfortable with.

Would you recommend this headset over the Audeze penrose cause I heard both of these headsets are really good in terms of sound. I also heard that the Astro a50 headset doesn’t last long

Well the selling point for the Audeze is the drivers. I personally haven't had the chance to test out any planar magnetic driver headsets yet, so I can't speak on that. By all accounts, they sound very good. In terms of features and ease of use, I would go with the Astros though. I don't really know what you mean by "doesn't last long". If you mean battery life, it's longer than the Audeze. If you mean durability, like I said in the video, I've had these for 2ish years and theres been 0 wear or issues with the headset.

@@villerasku the adapter for the Astro a50 gen 4. I seen on the setup video for the headset on PS5 that you need the adapter cause the PS5 doesn’t have a optical port. You have to buy the adapter separately. You can search up Astro a50 adapter if you still don’t know what I’m talking about

@@mythicalgamer7373 Wasn't aware that you were referring to PS5. You need the adapter for certain features like Dolby, chat/game mix and eq settings to work. The sound quality will also be lower with just the USB connection. If you use a tv, you can connect your astros to that with the optical cable without the need for an adapter and get the better sound quality without the need for the adapter.

Moving from a Logitech G935 to the A50 was such a huge letdown. I'm not sure if I'm just used to the sound of the G935 but everything sounds muffled coming from the A50. Played around with the EQs, even bought Dolby Atmos but I couldn't make it sound good to me :( I play mostly FF14 and very few shooters, nothing competetive so cinematic sounds > detecting steps for me but still, the G935 sounds a lot sharper in my opinion

That's an extremely interesting experience. I've tried the 935's after I got my A50's and have had quite the opposite experience. If anything, I think this goes to show how differently people can experience audio. It's unfortunate that you didn't get what you were looking for. Hopefully you were able to return the headset and get something else?

I like the A50. BUT i work with the goxlr and i have a static sound and that bugs me so much. Is there a solution for it? A ground loop thing that reduce the sound ? cause i dont think it can entirly go away? Any streamer have tips or tricks?

Yeah a ground loop isolator does the trick. I use the GoXLR Mini with my A50's and it works great that way. Doesn't remove the static entirely but you can turn the volume of the headset down and compensate with the GoXLR. That way I'm able to get rid of like 95% of it.

Hello just picked mine but i dont know how to keep the base station charging when i have my pc turned off or can i put power from socket tried with a phone block it didnt work

It doesn't stay on if you have it plugged in to the pc when you turn your pc off due to no power coming to the base station. You should be able to use a usb charging brick since the required power is just 0.5A. If that isn't working for you, your base station might be defective? I suggest contacting Astro support.

In the decription is a google drive folder with some presets you can download. I'vd found a lot of success with the TournamentII preset. If you don't know how to add presets, I have a video on how to do that.

Yes you can. There is a micro-usb port on the bottom of the right earcup that you can use for charging.

So if you download the presets in the drive folder in the description, I use the TournamentII preset for games that require me to hear footsteps, OmniVoxFS for single player games and movies and PureAudioBASS for music.

My final judgement is still out. Got mine yesterday and the out of the box sound is terrible. No punch, no resolution in the low end and foggy mids and highs. With alot of tweaks and time in the command center and the Dolby access app they now sound decent. Out of the box the Logitech g935 sound way better and they are half the price!

See I’m considering the artis pro wireless but the very fact that it doesn’t use Dolby 7.1 like the Astro A50 is what really concerns me the most and that somehow despite higher price tag that the mic is even worse than the astros haha. Price really doesn’t relate to mic quality as u said. Anyway I noticed u mentioned them in the video. Do u own them and if u do can u tell me which of the 2 u prefer and why? Great video btw.

I did in fact own them for a good while. And despite what a lot of reviewers say about them, I could never get the to sound good. They had basically 0 bass, no matter how much you tried to EQ them. I even bought the leather earcups for them and that had basically 0 effect. I was extremely underwhelmed by the sound quality of the Arctis Pro Wireless and that's why I ended up selling them and getting the Astros instead.

I’m in Australia, so I try and look for a product that also will last me a long while cause getting replacement ear cups or mod kits is impossible here basically. Once part of ur headset goes u have to get a new ones down in this part of the world haha. However Astro seem to be the only ones who sell mod kits here so that was a huge appeal to me. Might sound stupid but the ear cups on 2 headphones I’ve had now r the reason I’m looking at astros as a solution as it might last me many more years than other headsets simply because I can make their longevity longer when ear cups r replaceable.

I have had a ASTRO A50 since 2017 and it has sounded so good out of the box and I just used one of the presets to make it better. It just broke though so I got the Steelseries for christmas and my god is the out of box audio and presets bad. I am honestly mad that a 2020 model high end headset with same price as the old Astro cant beat a 2017 headset in sound. Def thinking of selling these.

Hard to like them. I mean they’re great on PC BUT if you’re going to get them for Next Gen specifically Xbox Series X..DO NOT GET THEM. They have a weird static popping sound every few minutes and it’s too obvious to ignore. Tried many “solutions” Changed WiFi settings Changed USB chord Hard reset of headset Different USB ports on Xbox Latest Firmware Turned off other wifi devices around me Nothing. It’s either Xbox or Astro.

I didn't have that issue on the X but the reason I returned mine were due to my friends instantly telling me I sounded muffled. Crazy to think that after spending $300+. I still use my original A40s and they joke about how crystal clear I always sound, lol

Easiest way is to look at the dock. The gen 4 has the one that is pretty much the width of the headset like you can see in the video. The older models dock is almost double the width.

If you've never had a gaming headset, then I would really emphasize that you should only consider these if you have 300$ just burning a hole in your pocket. In my opinion they were definitely worth the price, but I have tried 10s of gaming headsets and knew exactly what I was looking for.

The HD560s is a way better option and Husker uses hd599 is also good. The ultimate headset is hd800 but is way over priced. I still enjoyed your video

Ok I just want to take a moment and say I love astro headsets however the a50s has to be the absolute worst headsets I've ever used after 2 months of use my microphone crackles so bad in party chat other people can barely hear me these were so ungodly overpriced for what you get the "new and improved" base station is a joke it's almost impossible to put your headphones on your base station because you have to put it somewhere close to the system because the whole 1-2ft cord they give you is so short you couldn't do anything with it any normal person who is playing a playstation on a TV is not playing with it right next to them so why make it so I have to get up and struggle to put them on this stupid base station to charge them it's easier just to charge them with a cord to an outlet like seriously? $350 and you couldn't come up with anything better than that?? You can literally customize better headsets on there website for $100 less!

Damn, sound like you had a rough time. Can't really say much about the mic except an email to astro for a fix / replacement should get that dealt with. For the cord length, I'd argue that the majority of the users is made by combining pc users and console players who play on a monitor. But if you need to get it further, you can always get longer cables. Not saying your arguments are invalid, just pointing out the reasons those aspects are likely the way they are. Just don't see the need to crucify the headset itself on those grounds.
