Heck, this is how far I went because I was upset when I got a silver 2 oz Scottsdale stacker and the entire edge of it is just wonky as hell! kzbin.infoD1ibFh4f0A4?feature=share I guess maybe because I had some expectations considering how everybody talks about them and how they always look so beautiful online and I guess just the all around talk about them and the Scottsdale mint and how great they are. I was surprised when I got I didn't know that they didn't have reeded edges I thought that took a lot away from the round! Then on top of that it was completely uniform! I mean these things are literally called stackers because you're supposed to stack them together tell me how you stack something one on top of the other one when the edges of the coins have up to 1/8 of an inch difference in uniformity! well maybe I'm being a little bit hyperbolic but man is it noticeable! So much so that I actually found something this jewelry box that what is somehow perfect to fit this round! Especially because it made it so you couldn't see any of the edges! the top of the round is flush with the circular ellipse of a cone inside of a cylindrical jewelry box making it so you can see nothing but the top of the round😂 I don't know maybe I just had too high of expectations for it considering it was the one thing I really wanted from the second I saw it even before I first started getting into silver stacking and collecting! so yeah kind of a disappointment! I thought I might have gotten fake when I first received it because just looked so incorrect! every time I saw it on video or picture I always just imagined it to have a beautiful reeded Edge that would have accented all those lines coming out from the Lions head! I put a link above for video that shows that exact round in said jewelry box kzbin.infoD1ibFh4f0A4?feature=share

Odd on the Britannias. Rim differential? A stack of 20 Buffalos, all lined up consistently leans precariously. If you aren't careful, they'll topple. Eagles are completely straight. Clearly, we care more than most people or the Mint would be forced to work on it! 😅

I'm sorry, but the way that stack looks to me is unacceptable. That's supposed to be one of the ways to determine authenticity other than weight and dimensions. A coin minted at a sovereign mint should be able to be stacked upon itself many times with no visible overhang on the edges or odd looking angle like that. Uniformity is important. It would be interesting to see the minting process in action on these. I have not seen the same on AGEs either. I assume it is something proprietary with the 24k as you suggest. I visualize machinery cutting, punching, stamping and conveyoring these things at a rapid pace and going into a bin somewhere to then be separated out and packaged bulk into armored vehicles, or just the USPS truck, or carrier pigeon. Perth Mint to U.S. Mint - "Time to step up your game!" The uneven rim on the UHR coin would make me a little bi-polar. Which pole? Well, you can guess. Glad you didn't draw blood getting that buffalo out of the cage. Good for you for understanding modern bullion as just that - bullion.
@2is1gold2 жыл бұрын
I'd like to see it as well - I've seen parts of the process, but not the actual strike. The striking press either comes down in a radial arc or the die is on some kind of pivot joint. A straight hydraulic press wouldn't allow this. I blame robots. 😄

Was worth doing it for the video, otherwise first strikes are not worth the extra premium, at least for me. You could see the lean on your Buffalo tower, not good enough for a coin as prestigious as that. All said and done, the Buffalo has the edge on the Eagle. Great vid, thanks.

@@2is1gold Yeah, I got a scratched up 2019 Gold Liberty from them, and I returned/exchanged it for a better quality one. I'm glad they accommodated 👍 and had the inventory to replace it. Otherwise, I am sure they would have considered the imperfections as acceptable for bullion.

I like how the US of the most respected makes the most flawed gold coins. It’s a nonchalance of old money that says it’s hand made and we don’t care. But I’m sure some people have lost a few dollars here and there with the finning cracking off. But Buffalo all the way, especially since I see European dealers online saying it’s preferable to the eagle just because it’s 24k

Britannias are 999 fine. Buffalos are 9999 fine. Maples/Perth are also 9999 fine. There might be a slight problem with even that miniscule impurities for the Britannia. The "real" question is which one is easiest to sell where you are at?

Both US Mint gold coins have finning !

Eagles too? I haven't seen that.

It seems the mint has had this problem for awhile, saw another video and cannot believe how many other bullion coins pennies dime etc..., have issues. I have been stacking GB's for the last 3 years, do you have any earlier buffalos with the finning problem. Just curious if this always was the way.

I have the 2010 in the video with issues, a 2013 with finning and a 2016 with finning. It seems like 2021 was the worst in my extremely small sample population. Cheers!

Im not sure little imperfections effects value i have different coins from everywhere. My gold shop guy is rough on them, im not, i did drop a kruger off my table on to the tile didnt notice anything but ill bet a perfectionist would i keep them in those plastic tubes all touching each other, my gold shop guy acts like it doesn't matter. idk ps what do you think about big 5 elephants 🐘? And are 2022 Britannia's safe as far as someday selling? I have never sold any

The Buffalo does toy with your emotions though. On one hand it's like WTF US Mint?! & on the other the quirks can be overlooked because it is just that good. Perth has their quality game on point.

I saw a buffalo on one of the coin sellers screen with the description of a gold foil finish? What's that? Another ? does the quarter oz. Maple leaf 2022 have the security of the one oz ? I didn't see an emblem as on the one oz. Thank you for any help you can give.

The Mint is tone deaf on finning. So, it is good to see more people talk about it. Well done!

I'm sorry, but for the premiums that those coins come with, it's unacceptable. The US Mint simply has poor quality control, and we should expect more from them.

To sell as first strike you go by the date on the monster box and basically all that come out for the first couple months were made in month one. Its basically a marketing gimmick now. What you really want is a coin from very early in the dies you will see a difference in sharpness of the strike. The us mint is not doing quality control checks they should be doing and rejecting coins. First flaw I see unlike perth mint that makes there own blanks / Planchets the us mint buys them from Sunshine Mint in Las Vegas. Why give up any profit and quality control.
