She said she didn’t want to misspeak and wanted to be factual therefore couldn’t speak on topics until the FBI finished their investigation so that the internal investigation could be completed. If she said one thing during the hearing, and more details were to be discovered after, they’d accuse her of lying and/or withholding information that day and/or rushing the investigation. Imagine if she said the fbi director told her 5 casings were found but the fbi later says they told her 6, or that another was found after they spoke… the accusations and theories would be ridiculous.

As an American I want answers, but I want to know those answers are correct because they have been properly investigated. That’s why they should’ve respected the process, and respected if some questions couldn’t be answered until the fbi investigation was completed. Once it was complete, she, as well as the FBI director and whoever was in charge of local law enforcement that day, should’ve been called back to answer those questions again as well as others. (Even small town police don’t release information about crimes until investigations are completed. This was a rally involving multiple agencies and a large crowd, of course it’s going to take more that 9 days.)

You can (and most do) give phrasing to protect yourself in those situations, "To the best of my recollection". "I believe the FBI told me that". Contempt of court is defined as any act which is calculated to embarrass, hinder, or obstruct a court in the administration of justice, or which is calculated to lessen the authority or dignity of a court. Meaning “I’ll have to get back to you on that, or I don’t have the answers” is within constraint for a charge of that nature when it is commonly known knowledge you already do have the answers and information. If anything at the least she should be abdicated for incompetence
