I heard this Marvel game has one of the hardest arcades modes! So I decided to try out Xmen: Children of the Atom to check it out myself. I cannot believe how cheap this arcade mode is, but thats not gonna stop me from beating it!

Everyone lost attacks and animation frames when they left CotA. Sentinel is a different character altogether compared to his MvC2 version.

Pretty much everyone is. This game has so many weird mechanics and concepts that don't appear anywhere else: being able to super jump cancel almost every normal on block, the lack of magic-series and weird chaining rules in general, Wolverine having a weird tri-jump overhead by wiff-cancelling his instant dive kick, etc. MSH onward everything sorta plays by the same basic "rules" (magic series is usually prominent for most characters, can only super jump cancel on hit, one air action per jump outside of fs, one otg per combo, etc.), XCOTA is just its own insane beast.

MVC2 Magneto: God Tier, but broken as hell X-Men VS Street Fighter Magneto: Shin Magneto, should be banned like Shin Akuma is in CVS2. X-Men: CotA Magneto: Banned, just completely unfair.

XvS magneto and MVC2 magneto are basically the same, you know. There's minimal differences between them, aside for the button scheme in mvc2.

Magneto is my all time favourite Marvel character so I never minded how broken he was in Children of The Atom. If anything, I kinda felt his brokenness really did justice to his comic book version because unlike most FG bosses, Magneto was really mobile and agile too. Although the irony is, all the other Marvel bosses that came after were relatively toned down and much easier to fight compared to Magneto despite being canonically far more powerful.

The funny thing is that he's only playing this boss on normal (Level 4) and had this much trouble. It Justin played Magneto on the hardest difficulty (Level 8) he'll lose his mind because Magneto becomes a mad combo machine.

Magneto's a step down easier in the japanese version, along with the rest of the characters. I was able to beat him without continuing. The overseas versions, hell nah.

This was the game that started it all. I watched all the regulars at Sunnyvale Golfland realize they had to learn a new bag of tricks after getting crushed repeatedly. The versus games that followed upon this changed, improved, etc.However, at its core, COTA on the hardest setting is way more difficult than everything that followed.

6:24 - you can tell your opponent is dizzy when their character card is spinning. It goes from yellow background to red, so you do not have to wait for dizzy animation before Hail Storm.

You probably could've beaten him the second time if you'd used Hailstorm instead of Lightning Storm, as it does much more damage (though it has a really long startup, so you have to cancel into it immediately after the stun launch or else he'll probably block it). The input is QCF+Start.

This takes me back to my arcade rat days when barely anyone played this game cuz it was SO DAMN HARD. We talking bout first character the CPU random select got u sweating. And the air combo system was just ass. Greatly improved in Marvel Superheroes. The combo system was over jank. Too much damage off normals. Easiest way to beat this game and I found out literally about 3 or 4 yrs ago is to select Colossus and spam jumping HP

Way to go on the battle with him... Well at least you're not playing Street fighter 2 on the hardest difficulty... They get double damage and they will read your button inputs. Makes you really want to not play the game anymore

Really unpopular? Is there anyone that can deny that? The peak form of the series visual presentation and artistic quality (portraits, stages, etc) was Msh. (Topped by the MvC1 presentation only in the opening). Even in XvSf the stages are less defailed and interactive than in Msh and Cota. The standards for stages started actually dropping right in that game... then MvC2 was the lowest point.

I’ve beaten this game 4 times on arcade. Once with Akuma, but he’s cheap so I don’t count that one. Magneto is THE MOST BROKEN Capcom boss ever. Close second is Alpha 3 Bison.

This was one of the few games that the arcade operator couldn't make it (beat the game with one credit with the hardest possible settings... yeah, that includes disabling 2 player mode and the ability to continue the game when you lose a match), very few players managed to do it once they figured out how to cheese the game overall, because let's get real, against the AI in this game, is like playing non-JPN Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo when it comes to the difficulty. Don't get me wrong, is interesting to see the origin of the Marvel vs series with Capcom but... if you want to start to play a Marvel game, is better to skip this one and go with Marvel Super Heroes instead (which is also difficult but AT LEAST is more playable than X-Men Children of the Atom when it comes to the single player part.. also... screw you Juggernaut and Magneto). Edit: Perhaps one of the reasons of why future games after both SSF2T and X-Men Children of the Atom had to be more friendly to players in single player mode has to be the blame on players of my country destroying the machines of frustration against the difficult AI (yeah, I once saw from far away of the Arcade center how a lot of players destroyed 1 machine of the 2 games I mentioned, forcing the operators to restrict the machines to Vs. mode only and if you wanted to play single player, you HAD to ask the operator to enable the mode because of those destructive incidents).

COTA is absolutely broken. I have an original COTA arcade cabinet and it took me easily an hour to heat magneto the first time I went through the ladder. In the time since I have DEFINITELY swapped out games in the cabinet
