The older I get the more I realize that I'm going to die eventually. I've realized heavily that life is about creating great experiences and emotions and sharing those with people you care about. And to take life to the next level I'm realizing that happiness can be maximized by being useful to other people in some way and having purpose beyond yourself. It's taking me a long time to figure this out. Hope that helps someone.

"Reality is neutral" : that line hit hard. 💯 our mind, which is subjective in nature will always paint a picture based on concepts, while "reality" or the present space and time just is. Most our problems arise from our grasping, our attachment to these concepts and our dissatisfaction. Meditation provides the tools to let the mind be free of it's own delusions, but I encourage this practice to be accommodated by some sort of buddhist philosophy/practice. Meditation is a strong aspect of buddhism, but it is only a piece of the pie.

What I gathered from the talk is that you can never depend on others for your happiness. It doesn't mean they are out to get you, but they are also looking after their own interests. No one's coming to save you, but it's entirely upto you how you wanna structure your life so you can gain optimal results for your own well-being. Starting from the food you put in your body, physical activity, the way you dress, your hobbies and passions, how you speak to yourself everyday, your vices, etc. which are active choices that you can make everyday by disregarding short-term pleasure. It's like as if you were taking care of someone who's life depends on you. And ironically, we prioritize pleasing others over the only person who can affect any change for our betterment....ourself. And what's interesting is that once we learn to look after ourselves, we are in a much better position to help our loved ones. It's just like how the safety instructions in planes tell you to put your oxygen mask on yourself first before you put one on someone else.

I disagree. I think happiness comes more from purpose than from security. Otherwise rich people and wealthy countries would be the happiest on earth, which is certainly not the case. Unless you mean something other than physical and financial security, in which case perhaps I agree.

@@SolarJakee yes Jake. I mean more than physical security and financial security. What most those rich and wealthy people you mention are lacking is a lack of health. Good health is happiness. @UlyssesHaq5 жыл бұрын
Id like to add to that, security and stability, together with a purpose and shared purpose with gives it meaning. A purpose has no meaning if it is not for a cause and our main cause is to live, provide life and love and security, this is happiness. But only when shared.

@SolarJakee5 жыл бұрын
I actually disagree. Kids born into rich families who have everything handed to them on a platter are deprived of struggle and challenges, which are absolutely necessary for developing character and learning what is important in life and what isn't. I wasn't born into a rich family but I was certainly coddled to a large degree for a lot of my life and as a result suffered from anxiety and depersonalisation for 10 years as I hadn't learnt the lessons I needed to be able to overcome it. Only since forcing myself out of my comfort zone and hardening my mind through doing the things that terrify me have I been able to start having some semblance of control over my mind and my life. Obviously there's limits to it, some kid born into abject poverty in a third world slum might live a shitty life no matter how deal with it. Even then, I've spent time with people in Sri Lanka who lived in temporary dwellings for years after having their homes destroyed in the tsunami and losing many friends and family members and yet they were without a doubt much happier than myself and most of the people I knew back in the UK. Basically, there are much more important factors than money when it comes to happiness. I honestly can't believe Joe "have you ever smoked DMT" Rogan seems to think you can't be happy without being loaded. Pretty ludicrous if you think about it really.
@giuffre714 Жыл бұрын
I've been disproportionately happy my entire life. I think it's because I have very few needs and I enjoy seeing other people happy 😃

I try to put positive spin on things like sometimes being treated differently and wonder if I'm deluding myself. Watching this made me feel that it's a good thing to interpret things positively ❤️

“Thank God we didn’t all get what we wanted when we were young, or we would be trapped by that.” Wow, of all the quotes he throws out in this clip, that last one stands out to me the most.

I used to be super positive as a kid until I was gradually ground down. Now I’m picking it back up again! On the bright side I get to experience this as an experienced caretaker of myself with boundaries!

@@bobbycigarillo I couldn't believe that line man. The amount of psychedelics he takes and the man still thinks humans can't be happy without inordinate amounts of material possessions.

@Matthew I know man i sometimes feel the same way. It doesnt mean we cant be happy. Unfortunately, most people face the same demons my friend. Everyone suffers, but we have the ability to make choices that lead to a happier state of being. It's not easy and we're not going to be happy every second of every day. But I do believe that happiness is choice, not a result. Peace

The way I experience being happy is that you already have everything to be happy internally. Not in a fluffy way, but just because you’re attitude can change without your context changing. Being happy is how you look at things and how you interpret what happens to you and around you. And then do it on a daily basis. I’m not saying it’s easy, but I do think it’s simple.
