That brought back good memories. I really enjoyed my pair of snakehead gudgeons that I kept 20 years ago. They were just like puppies, always waiting for me at the top of the tank whenever I entered the room.

I love my peacock gudgeons! I've always wanted the Empires, but haven't as of yet! And you showed a few I've never even seen, so I'mma have to check their availability in the states! They really are such neat fish! 🤗 Thanks, Blake! Great video as always!

Got a soft spot for the snakehead gudgeon as they are around my local area. Use to be common but competition from tilapia and habitat loss have reduced their numbers greatly. Can be aggressive so can hold their own against tilapia but I think the overwhelming numbers of tilapia interferes with their breeding thus reducing their numbers. They can colour up beautifully with an orange / bronze tinge over their bodies. Probably best under subdued lighting. I think they need brackish conditions to breed as the creeks and drains you find them in connect back to saltwater. Also referred to as mud cod because of where they live. Enjoyed the video.

Beware, purple spots in my experience are fish eaters. It doesn't have to be small enough to swallow for them to hunt, they'll try to eat any smaller fish they can get a hold of with their mouths. Many times have I underestimated them and turned the lights on to see a fish 3/4ths of their size lodged in their mouths. I also see this behavior in water cow type sleepers (there are tons of species of all sizes) Snakehead gudgeons in my experience have relatively smaller mouths and seem to be more of an invertabrate specialist. Mine always waits for me at the surface of the tank and only perches on the ground when spooked or sleeping. Obviously the little gudgeons like empires and peacocks won't go for your fish because they are micro predators.

I’ve a snakehead all the way here in America. Awesome fish but yes VERY jumpy, put a towel/top of the bucket type of fish. Mine lives with my small bichirs and he’s about 5-6 inches

Don't think you can breed snakehead gudgeons successfully. Yeah you can get them to spawn but the larvae need to develop in the sea/estuary if i recall correctly

I've had a pair of Empires in my 55g for about 3 or 4 months. Grown from about 2 inches to 3 1/2 in that time. Haven't seen too much color, if I feed bloodworms the dominant one will get flush around the face and darken up a bit on the body but nothing like any pics I've seen. I can see the color patterns on the fins but they've remained dull. My luck I probably have two females. There is aggression between the two but nothing major, usually just chase away.
