It’s really crazy that this works every time. In case I wasn’t clear, the spectator really can move anywhere as they please. While you practice, do different moves to try to beat it! It will ALWAYS end on the 8 of Spades. Have fun!

So the 9 cards need to be these cards?

Yes, exactly.

@@SeanDevine And the 8 of spades should be in any specific place on the tic toc toe formation?

weird - i just tried this twice and it didn't work... do the cards need to be in a specific formation in the grid?

also - for jack and king, what are their numerical values for the purposes of this trick?

Simon was a genius. One of the greatest magic creators ever. Thanks for sharing Sean. Makes me want to dive back into his books and see what else is overlooked.

You clever lil sausage! You know exactly how this trick works and that it won't work if we don't have the cards in the order you laid them out in, so we have to replay the video several times to figure out how it works and post lots of questions in the comments section! Well played sir. It is an awesome trick though, thanks for sharing.

I was about to say this reminded me of David Copperfield's railroad trick from his TV special, then I opened up the Aronson book and sure enough he mentions it in the second sentence of the trick. Really nice one!

So all you have to do is make sure the mystery card is in the original 9. That ending melted my brain. Fantastic trick.

Simon Aronson was some kind of mad scientist. Excellent trick!

I worked out how this works and it absolutely ends the same way, every time. If it didn't work for you, some instruction wasn't followed properly. This effect is a work of art.... I have no idea how Aronson developed it, but it is so amazing and difficult to "deconstruct".

What a great effect. What a great book. My absolute top favorite in the book is on page 249 and is called "Fate". When I saw this feat performed by Simon for the first time, I was downright overwhelmed. Do you know this trick? Your demonstration today showed me once again how much top material lies dormant in the hundreds of magic books that I have already forgotten or skipped years ago. Thank you for your always great posts. At 66 I still perform regularly and yes... despite all my books... your videos are always an inspiration to me. With magical greetings from Switzerland Andre

Oh yes, this trick! I saw it as an interactive video once on KZbin, and got kinda obssessed with it, just a little bit, but I wanted to understand how it worked, so i made some crazy scheme, and I came up with the explanation! So if the number they move is even, then you'll end off on an outer corner, or in the center. If the number is odf, then you end off on the center of the outer lines, not sure if it's clear... Then, you just remove cards that the spectator are not on, and following this sort of pattern, you get them to chose the card that you want them to pick!
@harryhowdidhe11 ай бұрын
Also note that the red cards are a minority, so following the instructions you will always end up with black. Furthermore picture cards should be removed. So its a nice reversed engineering trick. A sloppy note book is more believable i.m.o, people might think its an algorithm trick.

Sean in this trick we can only use the card u use for explaining or just 8 of spade and other card can be random
@100toursdemagie710 ай бұрын
hello,this is great trick,but when the message says remove any pictures card,why you remove two cards and not one?
@mrcardmagic11 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing. Cards must be in the same layout as well, correct?
@SeanDevine11 ай бұрын
Yes. I think it’s best to not direct too much focus on choosing the nine cards. If you just casually do a jog shuffle and cut like I did in the performance, it feels like the cards are random and not forced.
@gregonken84938 ай бұрын
I've done this three times now and it didn't work. Do the cards have to be laid out in order shown...also are face cards counted as value of ten out their actual value ?

Step 14 you can not "Remove any card of that suit".. you have to remove the Seven like you did or it wont work.

Man I was excited until I started running through this several times. While it does work more times than it doesn't, it doesn't work out more times than I feel comfortable with.

@@SeanDevine like what? I even pulled my copy of the book out to see if I was missing something. I mean I'm following the instructions to the letter. If I'm messing something up I would love to know.
@SeanDevine11 ай бұрын
Oh, my bad. For some reason I was thinking of a different video. For this one, it works every time if you use all the exact same cards I used in the demonstration, in the exact order.
@ImpromptuCardMagic11 ай бұрын
@@SeanDevine I am using the exact same cards that you have shown here and that Simon has in the book. One of the last moves that I got to was where I had the 3 of clubs with the marker on the eight of spades. The instruction said spell the color which is black and puts the marker on top of the three. The next move is to remove the lowest card. You're sitting on top of the lowest card. Or are you saying they have to remove that and they lost?
