It is interesting talking to people trying to get stronger. I ask them "why lifts are you doing in order to increase your strength". They proceed to give me the worst answers of all time. "Oh I'm doing bicep curls, cable flies, tricep extensions, etc etc.." And I think to myself "well, of course, you aren't getting stronger you fool! You aren't doing any compound movements. compound movements are the lifts you have to do order to get stronger.
