Love this. So encouraging and helpful. I have some natural talent but get discouraged because I don't have the skill and time to develop and educate myself intensively and so it just stops me from even trying. But the easy sketch trick put some hope in me.

I totally understand and can relate to your comment. I remember when Art was frustrating for me because I didn’t have the time in my life to dedicate to serious learning. I find it helpful though just to squeeze in a little bit of fun artistic time. Creating little paintings that are intuitive and playful can sometimes fill that need to create without feeling like you need to paint a masterpiece or learn a whole lot from the session.

Another wonderful video. Always showing such great ways to mix media's. I've never heard of these pastels but I'm always excited to find new brands and the fact that they are from Russia doesn't bother me at all. The people of Russia are lovely people and I support ma and pop businesses no matter what country. We are all just trying to survive. Matter a fact Russia won't allow a lot of the toxins we have here in the US so when you said they were non toxic thats even better.

Susan, adored your rendition of these mice! You make it seem so easy. Ques-I love to work with pastels on an easel, but I find the dust falls like a curtain and discolors. Any suggestions?
@monetcafe6 ай бұрын
Hi Kimberly, thank you so much and yes, pastel dust can definitely fall. I make a little homemade trough out of aluminum foil. I just pull along sheet out and fold it up horizontally and make a V. I put half of it behind my painting board and the other half sticking out front. Also, I often put down an old towel underneath me when I paint to catch any residual pastel dust. Another tip is to get a small HEPA filter fan to put next to you while you’re painting. I turn it around backwards so that it is sucking in the pastel dust. It’s not only helpful for cleanup, but it keeps you from breathing it as well. Hope that helps!
@rareheartart6 ай бұрын
@@monetcafe I really mean the pastels discoloring the painting as the dust falls -the moment I’m applying it. Like a dark color will fall down over a light color and sometimes I can’t even blow it off. I use sennelier pastels. The only thing I can think of is setting my easel up more erect.

Do you prefer Fisher 400 over Pastelmat? Also, how hard is it to learn photoshop? It's astounding to me how you get those little tiny marks with those big chunky sticks.
@monetcafe6 ай бұрын
That’s a tough question because I like both surfaces. I think I like Fisher 400 for its layering ability and the colors just seems so vibrant on that surface. But I do love Pastelmat as well. Also, I majored in graphic design back in the dark ages, but did get some computer, graphic training, and I’ve played around with Photoshop for many years. It’s nice to be able to manipulate photos and achieve certain effects, but there’s a program on the computer that’s free called Canva. You can do so many things that are similar to Photoshop. Just go to canva.com and check it out. One day I want to have a tutorial showing more about how to use it, but it’s really pretty self-explanatory. Plus, you can find tons of videos on KZbin teaching you how to use it. oh and it definitely can be difficult getting small marks with the big chunky Pastels, but you just learned to feel where they are. Hope that helps!
@TjVoelkerArt6 ай бұрын
@@monetcafe it truly helps. I suppose, as with anything, the more you do it, the easier it is. I have Canva on my phone, but didn't realize you could use it like photoshop, so that's good. I need to watch some tutorials on that. I use pastel pencils and love pastelmat, but truthfully I haven't tried Fisher 400. I do have some Uart, but saw somewhere where that wasn't as user friendly as Fisher. I originally got it for colored pencil, but it rolls at the corners.

I received the Earthberry “Dawn” box as a gift and not to sound bratty but was extremely confused by the choice of colors in the set, 6 shades of red and not a single yellow, I’ve owned countless color set from all kinda mediums but never in my life did I come across a set of 30+ colors that lack a primary one… I assumed since this is all hand made they probably haven’t had the chance to create a yellow shade yet ? Wrong, confusion turned into revolt when I saw the price tag online… 150$ for a color box that basically has red, blue, green, brown and purple in a bunch of different shades, rendering the color set completely useless. I’ll keep it as a quirky piece of decor since there’s nothing that comes to mind that I can draw with these limited colors, not even a dawn makes sense without any oranges or yellows.

I love your art work.The Earth Berry pastels are beautiful as well, but regardless of Galina and her family's work ethic or political stance, tax money from the sales of their products Will support Russian attacks against Ukraine. Coloring book artist Anastasia Elly Koldareva, arguably produces some of the most outstanding portraits, if not the most, among all the coloring book artist community. Desire for her latest work, Exotica, makes it difficult for many of us to boycott her products, but if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.
