If you have knowledge and resources available you can replace a transmission for less than $1k. LKQ sells used transmissions for $350. With an EV you won’t need emissions inspections, never replace your brakes, never need oil changes and you can cheaply charge from home. You also won’t be polluting the air every time you drive. There are still a few places where you can charge for free. In some EVs you get free improvements for the life of the vehicle via software updates. Personally, I’ll never buy another ICE vehicle.

Never rebuilt a motor before or put one in a car so it was all a learning experience. I think I put around $2000 into the car which includes the price of the car and the motor and rebuild kit. Someone bought me a replacement soft top though so I saved $400 on that. KZbin has tons of videos on how to work on about any car you can imagine so it wasn't very hard. I've built 3 motors since then. This was just a few years ago when I started. The car is worth about 4 times what I put into it now. your car is obviously faster and self driving is nice, but this thing was built for fun and it's all about it.

@@jamesmckay4573my old Toyota has had zero things break, similar miles. Used less than half the tires, and maintenance is a couple oil changes a year. Even using synthetic if I do it myself that's around $40. I've definitely spent less than half what he spent, and my car should go about 300k-400k miles without too much issues. Not seeing where these save much money... or the environment really with the added damage to the earth mining the battery parts, and insane amount of tire usage. Tires are a major cause of pollution I was genuinely surprised at how many tires he said he'd gone through

Buy a 3-5 year old model 3/Y. You can find 2021-2022 long range AWD variants w/ 20-50k miles for sub $25k out the door after the $4k used EV tax credit. If you’re coming from ICE you’ll save thousands a year on gas/fluids/maintenance annually.
@BabyJesus66
@BabyJesus66 2 күн бұрын
Maybe if you're driving a BMW or Mercedes... my Toyota with similar miles to his Tesla... maintenance is a couple $40 oil changes per year, nothing has broke or worn out on the car ever. Sounds like the costs of tires and charging alone would easily be more than my cars maintenance plus gas. I'm on my 3rd set of tires, just replaced them, so they're basically brand new (so 12 tires total, and on a new set)... hes used 23 tires and his are bald, so technically to match my tires he'd be on his 27th tires. Not to mention tires are a major cause of pollution and lowering life expectancy. So if you care about the environment I don't see how these are helping out much. Sure his car is faster and cooler than mine but if you're going by costs alone he's spent MUCH more than I have between the car, tires, maintenance, and charging.

I bought a used Toyota Funcargo with $5000 fourteen years ago. My car cost one month of work at my salary of $5000. How many months of working for Amazon does it take to pay off a Tesla? I haven't had to repair anything on my Toyota. I don't drive it that much, I live close to where I work in a small town in New Zealand. I think the car will last another 6 years. The car is like a little boxxy van, small easy to park. All the seats in the back fold down flat and I can fit 6 bales of hay in the back. I really like it. When it finally dies I want another one just like it only newer model. And if I get a newer one I'm not paying more than $16,000 I've decided. I'll buy it as a 4-6 year used Japanese import again. I want to make sure is actually made in Japan because those cars last forever.

Yeah was gonna say. The frequency with which he has needed to replace stuff, especially stuff out-of-warranty, is really bad. And that tire cost hurts.

Be aware of the front control arm issues as he mentioned in the video. Imo the pre 2021 models aren’t worth getting with that issue and older software/hardware, plus older batteries. The price difference between a used 2021-2022 model with like 50k miles and a 2017-2020 are negligible. In some cases the newer model years are even cheaper with better software/hardware and newer batteries.

I actually saw some old tires from a Tesla recently, and yes the have a foam cushion lining the center of the tires. The only bad thing about waiting till the tires are nearly bald to replace is you're at more risk for a blowout, and when it's raining with driving on wet roads you're at more risk of losing control, and stopping distance is increased. After I learned about the risks, I buy tires a lot sooner than I used to. If you've got a spare vehicle that sits parked most of the time, even if the tires look brand new with full tread, they say old tires will go bad and at risk of a blowout.
@ryanmckee3102

@@ryanmckee3102 not true. My friend just had a 3 year old tire blowout going down the road and had his baby with him. Tire wasn't even that worn. Don't mess around with tires, they're literally the only thing keeping you connected to the road. And yes, they do expire. You should change them even if they don't have wear after 8-10 yrs or so. I could be wrong on the amount of years so use your own research it's been awhile since I last paid attention to that so maybe it's changed.

It sounds like you've had some higher than normal issues with the Tesla to me. I've owned my fair share of cars, and ,outside of normal maintance like oil change and brake pads maybe at 75,000, they usually have no issues until they hit 100,000-mile mark. Even then they have minor issue, if any. Granted, they've all been gas vehicles not electic, but I also leased two Chevy Volts one to 36,000 miles and the other to 48,000. I never had a day or trouble out of either of them. Tires were fine. Nothing needed to be fixed to replace. Anyway, it's always helpful when people go into this much detail about a buying experience. I plan to buy an electric car again So this is helpful.

no snow where i am, some ice for a few weeks but that's about it - so i can't speak from experience. i've heard from other drivers that the RWD has been fine in snow, so long as proper tires are used but youd probably have to consult some local owners to be sure! if their answer is that RWD is acceptable, i could see it being the better option of the two due to less weight/power which means more range for cold winters. though i do believe the newer years are better about winter temps not affecting range as much

Like when i was a wee lad when cash was still king, and our school route bus tickets were stamped by the busdriver, and the busdriver carried a Habbo Hotel leather pouch and coin dispenser, i'm just thankful for EV's is all i'm gonna say, you kids today have no idea how horrible it was in the early 2000's!..

Whatever that mean? But I owned my Tesla for 5 years now and it’s still a cool car I love it. Yes maybe I worry about the battery but it’s not like it’s going to deplete completely. It’s a slow moving process. If I can have my Tesla for another 4-5 years. I will be be more than happy if the car goes out completely bc I have well over made my money and save money too. I live so much thing like I really like the regenerative braking slow to a stop. Just let go of the accelerator. I’m so used to Tesla now that driving a regular car is so boring. @xxdalionxx
@xxdalionxx 2 күн бұрын
There are plenty of reasons. Fort example I would buy a Miata over almost any EV or PHev certainly over any tesla. It's slower than most sports cars but fun as fuck to drive. Where I'm from in Canada there ain't enough charging stations to justify an EV but these days I'm leaning more PHev. I've recently test driven a few Toyota phevs some Honda's and Mazda's and they're great while the teslas I've test driven are way faster than a majority of these cars. There are far too many creature comforts I need. Like tactile buttons the ability to change temperature without looking at a screen , turning on heated seats without looking at a screen, a physical shifter. Small things like that add so much to a drive experience. When looking for a daily driver speed and acceleration is awesome but your driving just a tad over the speed limit for the most part anyway. Driving experience is what ends up mattering a lot. Build quality and tactility help a lot with that. And current Tesla fucking sucks at. I would rather buy the xiaomi car before them at this point and I'm skeptical of those cars.

I'll probably buy a Tesla Model Y when my Cadillac gets older and begins to have maintenance problems. I'm curious about the new Model Y that will soon be available.

nicee. i suspect the refresh will make it the all around best EV for most people, but i just really dislike the design and styling

@@GoHerping , I am hoping the new Model Y will look better, and the interior is supposed to be improved too. Some of the other EV manufacturers have EV's that look good, and have really nice interiors, but they seem inferior to Tesla with the drivetrain, thermal management and battery range, etc. It really seems a shame that Tesla didn't team up with others, such as Audi or Genesis to create a truly great EV. Lucid is supposed to have a great EV with amazing range, but I think they're ugly. I had been thinking of Rivian, but I heard some discouraging news about them. If I wait another 3 or 5 years, perhaps there will be some really good options that are also affordable. I'm just not going to spend $100K for a car, and Tesla might be the only reasonable option, unless of course the US decided to let China sell their EV's here. According to the Electric Viking, China has some great EV's.

Ain't no way 😅. If you spending 25,000 on a down payment. You might as well pay for a used Toyota Corolla.

I’m a big car guy and I love the Cyber truck. I personally own 2 1971 mustang Grandes. Just don’t get into owning EVs thinking it’s saving the environment. Lithium mining is horrific for the environment, and it’s normally child labor or slave labor.

@@Gomera_ that's really weird. my battery shows like 199 at full so that part is similar. i mean i get 90 miles of charge if i'm doing top speed runs, so there must be something else unless you're also just cruising crazy fast lol. i'd be curious what your wheel/tire setup + PSI is, and where you live

Theres nothing eco friendly about Teslas compared to combustion engines. Your just trading one set of things for another. Plus you even mentioned all the tires your burned through LoL. How do you think those are made and the effects of there disintegration. Great videos but stop deep throating the Eco D
