JT I'm so sorry you and your family are having to deal with the trauma and pain caused by a horrific situation such as that. And I'm very sorry for your poor grandma as well... I've been a victim of more then a couple of crimes myself.... I really don't want to get into detail here bc it is very difficult and unsettling to relive the trauma. I've lost plenty of people I love people too drug overdoses, alcoholism, suicide, car accidents, illnesses and diseases, old age... Even had an ex boyfriend that fell off a cliff and died. But intentional death at the hands of another -especially that person never being caught- is a whole other ball game in itself. I truly hope that they catch whoever did it so that your family can get whatever "closure" it possible can but more importantly so that your grandmother can receive the justice she so rightly deserves! I can’t comprehend how someone can become so “obsessed” that he would think that it makes sense to invade someone’s home “to be close to her.” A person who would do that has to be demented in some profound other ways. You’d think that it would show up in everything they do.
@Fraukie_H2 жыл бұрын
Usually I hate it when people blame movies, games and stuff for ad things.. But that story reminds me when a friend of mine made me watch "Twilight" with him because his teenage daughter wanted to watch it and he wanted to check out what's all the fuss about it. He started concerned about blood and horrorstuff, first thought with vampires. But the terrifying thing was Edwards behavior and Bella's reaction to it. My friend had an intense talk with his daughter to make sure that she understands something: If someone and especially someone you barely know follows you around "to protect you" and even intrudes your home "to watch you sleep" the next step is NOT a romantic date but filing a restraining order :) I don't now about other teenage books and movies.. but if more of them tend to write "romantic" and describe obsession and behavior that disrespect certain boundaries... that might play a part in real occasions like that one.
@user-wj3yr7xr2f2 жыл бұрын
Not demented but many who is convicted for stalking have Aspergers. This is not evil people but they have a neurological disorder. That makes them low on social skills and they dont understand boundaries well. I actually had a woman in her 50ths taking out my dog when I was at work. One morning I got home from a night shift, I noticed she had forgotten to take him out. So I texted her about it and took him out myself. I went to bed and fell asleep. All of a sudden I wake up from a sound and she is standing over my bed watching me sleep. I got angry and asked her what she was doing in my bedroom. Taking the dog out! But I texted you I already did that. And why are you in my bedroom? She had no answer. I showed her out and thought to myself this is the last time she got to take care of my dog. She is mental. A couple of days later I canceled the dog-walks and asked for my key back. But when I got to her apartment she wouldn't give it to me. She said she didt know where she put it and she tried all sorts of things to make me stay and have drinks with her instead. I insisted and finally I could leave. She didnt take the "breakup" well. She started calling, texting and stalking me outside my home. She screamed all sorts of things to me. This went on for a year! I tried to avoid her and hoped it would pass. But it didnt. She said she wanted an explanation, then she would leave me alone. So one day when she ran after me, I stopped and I explained that she was bad at boundaries and that I didt like being around her. And that the stalking has to stop or I will call the police. That actually hit home. She had just gotten an Aspergers diagnos and the doctor had told her about lacking boundaries. She thought she was behaving normal up to this point. After that day, I never saw her again.

There is an empty space in most rowhouses roofs. There may be some fiberglass as insulation and touching or breathing it in will irritate and sting and itch, but anyone can easily go there. There's not much to do there, there is no way into the house, but it is warmer in there and it blocks the wind. We sometimes run wires in that space so that they're out of sight, and it's no fun crawling in there, but it exists. The hatches are not even locked.

@@gandalf_thegrey Fathers get the same adrenaline buff, if not moreso, ontop of higher base Strength and Fortitude attributes. The father-tank build is more likely to turn into a DPS build than the mother-tank build. The only advantage the mother-tank build really has is the High Impulsivety passive. This can lead to a heightened initiative, often giving the mother-tank advantage in the beginning of the fight. However, the High Impulsivety passive is not really necessarily desirable for most builds -- as it tends to cause more issues than it fixes. However, min/maxers have argued that the Subservient passive most male builds have adopted is notably worse than the females High Impulsivety passive. We need to shake the meta up, and return to form. Male builds need to respec into the Leadership tree, and forgo the Subservient passive all together. It's really crippling most male builds, with very little pay off. Shoot, most male builds don't even unlock the Father skill tree anymore -- let alone have the gumption or feat points to spec into a tank build. The builds are all messed up, these days, largely due to some poorly coded patches in the 1800's, early 1900's, and 2010's.

I have a similar story to what you described in the intro. When I was roughly 5 or 6, my family was in a situation where for a couple months, my mom’s cousin and her husband were staying in our house with us, which was at the end of a sparse neighborhood out in the country on a street that was really unnoticeable from the main road, and surrounded by trees at the bottom of a hill. It was situated where, were it not for the mailbox and a gap in the trees, you’d not be able to really tell that there was a property. During my relative’s stay, there was always at least one person home. However, there was one day where for only a few hours, nobody was home. At some point, in those few hours, our house was broken into and some possessions had been stolen. It could’ve been coincidence. But what was more likely, was that someone had been watching us.

Is it just me or are home invasion stories the scariest stories? There is just something about being in your home where you're supposed to be safe, and someone violating that safety that's creepy as hell to me. My place is small though so every possible entry point is pretty much covered by just being in the living room, but large houses in particular have always creeped me out, just the thought that someone could be somewhere in that big house, and you'd have no idea makes my skin crawl. And no you shouldn't live in fear of home invasions, but you should 100% be prepared for it. My gun is right beside me on the night table when I sleep, I do live alone though, so nobody could get hurt accidentally.

It’s your right to bare arms but wouldn’t you also like to have some door armor and 5/6 inch screws, prime line high security door lock. * kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIHdn5qae9WFnJo * kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIDMiqyEop5ljdU * kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIXZnpKOgMp0kK8 You have these on your front and back door, it will make it nigh impossible for them to get in. If they do you would have heard them in the meantime giving you advanced warning to get your weapon or even lock bedroom door that also has the same locks while also giving you the time to call the police. So basically either they spend 20+ minutes finally succeeding in getting through but than they have to contend with another one to possibly/potentially get through to get to you. I am not saying for you not to have/own/use your gun. You absolutely are allowed to but using your gun in conjunction with other protection methods is better than just using a gun.

Facts. And people put way too much faith in locks. Most any lock can be beat. I started lock picking as a hobby cause my partner did and it absolutely ruined my sense of security within a home lol Guns all through the house so no matter where we are we're covered.

no lie my sister in law didn't close the front door to our house once properly, so while we slept, someone (or some people) just entered the house in the night, took my mom's laptop, my ps3, they loaded items into my backpack which also had my kindle in it. they never took the power cables or HDMI, even left the games on the shelf. We never got them back and I never finished far cry 3... but there was a stigma that someone could just walk into the house and take what they wanted, we were just grateful they never decided to head upstairs and look for more goods.

I can totally relate to Mr. Ballen with triple checking locks etc after going thru a home invasion yourself. Long story short, dogs are beyond the best to have in situations like that. My Rottweiler chased the intruder from my room upstairs to the front door. As the intruder was trying to leave my dog leaped from the 4-5th step and went right thru our glass front door. He jumped on the guys back and held in there for about 4 minutes until the police showed up.

the last story reminds me of a girl I used to work with. She lived in a townhouse with her infant daughter. She was on the first floor, the baby was sleeping, and she was on the phone with a friend. All of a sudden she heard clicking as if someone picked up an extension. They both stopped talking and said at the same time...sounds like someone picked up the other phone. The person she was talking to said I don't have two phones. Her other phone was in her bedroom, and she lived alone with her baby. They both stayed on the line and she went to her bedroom and the phone was on her bed, off the hook and there was an indention on the bedspread that showed someone had been sitting there and picked up the line. Her bedroom window was open but she never knew who did it.

When I was a small child, about 4, I used to lock every door in our house at 4 p.m. My parents thought this was “cute.” But I was serious. I’ve always been a cautious person, and perhaps that’s why I’ve never had an intruder. At 4 years old, I always watched the San Antonio news with my father. I saw horror stories about people whose houses were broken into. The reporter mentioned that everyone should lock their doors and windows. Anyway, I got my parents into the habit of locking up every time they entered the house. When I was a young teenager, my hometown had a gruesome murder. It was a young 28 year old woman who was stabbed over 50 times. Other homes were broken into, and the suspect was stealing women’s underwear. He’d leave a few underwear on the bedroom floors. All of them had been slashed and cut up. My small hometown called him “the panty slasher.” He was eventually caught, and I was horrified to find out who he was. It was a teenage boy who sat next to me in Home Economics class. He was always so friendly to me. Heck, he even would hold the classroom door open for me. Talk about having your blood run cold!

My dad had alzheimers. He always was like you...locking doors checking windows as soon as it got dark. So he didn't lose that need to check the perimeter as he got ill, but he lost the ability to wait for dark, he'd lock my mom, his caregiver out anytime she just went to get the mail, or put something in the car. For awhile he'd open if she knocked, but then he stopped. It was sad and funny. Your story of doing it so young reminded me of him. Thanks.

"the uneasy feeling that the safety, the sanctity of that place had been violated." This absolutely encapsulates how it feels, even by my own comparitively tame experiences. There have been two occasions when thefts have been attempted from my home. One was succesful (my bike was stolen from the shed in my back garden), the second was unsuccesful (I caught someone trying the front door handle when their knock wasn't answered. He was offering a "window cleaning service"). I still have mild anxiety dreams about both of these.

Our old house had a window a/c unit in the kitchen (in the window above the sink) and I got up one night to make a glass of water to see the a/c hanging halfway out of the window and a man’s gloved hands reaching into the windowsill. I screamed “Babe! Get the gun!!!” to my husband and the guy took off. I don’t even wanna think about what he would’ve done had he gotten in. Our kids were 1 and 4 at the time. And him wearing gloves tells me he thought it out and took the steps not to leave fingerprints. We called 911 and they came out and made a report and patrolled the neighborhood but they never found him. We took the ac units out of the kitchen and our bedroom and I’ll never live in a house with them again. I didn’t sleep well for months. Nightmares nightly about waking up to an intruder standing over me in my bed. I had to get on ambien for a while to be able to sleep.
