The Bf109 is from the late 60s. The give away is the Riko label, Riko (Richard Khonstam) being a large wholesaler of that period. That strange object you refer to is a plastic tube of polystyrene cement. Bin it, they are very fragile and can "explode".

The written instruction in the Heller 109 are typical for Heller in the 70's - You may find they are translations of the french language on the main sheet. The little bottle thingy is..or was.. indeed glue...and you are really fortunate that it hadn't leaked as they were notorious for leaking over any period over 2 years.

I'm late to the party, I know. I'll have to check your back catalogue. That Buffalo looked great - the wing attachment to the fuselage is always problematic, great to see the alternate way they have done it. The warpaint scheme will probably be based on RAAF aircraft of the early Pacific war. USN aircraft were carrier-based so probably had a different scheme. The Yak-1 looked pretty good too. Nice to find you.

Thats a cracking deal for four very nice kits. I like the Hobby Boss kits, and although old Heller kits can sometimes be a bit tricky at times, they are one of the companies that made some more interesting aircraft you just can't find from anyone else. Nice video, and good luck with the builds.

Remember those Heller instructions from '70s kits. Think there was a "form" to fill out on it to order missing/damaged parts. Many companies used to give instructions how to get missing parts, just found that on an old Revell USS Arizona and some 80's Monogram kits I had packed away - F-84, F-100, A-4 Adversary and 1/72 F-105 Wild Weasel.

You’ve done well there - love the BF 109 kit! I don’t know what problems you previously encountered with buying kits on eBay, but I’ve never had any problems with purchases and have sold a few surplus models myself at reasonable prices. The thing we model makers should remember is how comparatively expensive kits are today in hobby shops. Not their fault, but kits certainly aren’t “pocket money” buys anymore, so I’m happy looking at bargain 1990s Airfix kits, etc on eBay! Happy hunting and look forward to seeing what else you manage to unearth!

that is a great haul there model minutes. In regards to the odd Buffalo paint scheme, that was a real experimental camouflage scheme. Prior to the USA's entry into WW 2 both the USAAC/ USAAF & the US Navy experimented with very elaborate schemes between 1939 to 1941. Its odd that a basic hobby boss kit would have a paint guide for such a complex paint scheme with no masks. Anyway I cannot wait to see videos on all of these kits. Hope you have fun building them :)

The weird Buffalo paint scheme was very real. It was devised to camouflage aircraft in the same manner as the naval 'Dazzleship' schemes, and the British western desert 'Caunter' scheme. The design broke up the outline of the aircraft. It was conceived by an artist called McLelland Barclay, if memory serves. I had a Heller Bf-109K - beautiful little kit, with the streamlined 'Galland' canopy. The odd item was indeed a tiny PVC blister containing cement. Probably evaporated over time.

Never had any real problems buying off EBay in fact purchased similar lots to these for around the £15 mark, many of us even in big towns no longer have model shops to support and the days of every corner newsagent type shop stocking kits are now gone it has become a specialised business, still tons of surplus kits around that the dealers often sell in in convenient batches, selections of former East German DDR kits are fairly common too, good solid older type mouldings that build into decent models depending on your skills, now the transfers do not worry because there is a way to restore them, simply give the individual ones you want to use a coat of Humbrol Clear cotye you will find they float off fine and it saves you buying after market decal sheets which will cost more than your bargain lots ! personally I prefer the older more basic kits that can easily be reworked if you want to with extra cockpit detail and refinements not everyone is a fan of fiddly brass etch and I often wonder how much of those sheets get used anyway ? the more obscure types of kit too make for interesting builds that is a Yak 1 with plenty of winter schemes for it,looking forward to seeing these made up into interesting models to add to the others that have been built here, sogive the decal fix a try and you will be amazed how easier they are to come off the backing sheet because some decals are printed too thin and break up anyway, saves the day MM,so get the cement out and make a start on that interesting Brewster Buffalo, best of luck too with the bargains that are still out there because people want the more detailed modern kits to buy 'at a cost' too.

I support my local hobby stores, but do get the other half of my kits from eBay. Just use common sense and you'll be fine, and remember as long as you're polite messaging sellers never hurts. I found the original 1967 release Revell 1/72 SR-71 in a factory sealed box on EBay for $30. As one can imagine, it’s very poor quality, low detail, but a simple kit that I will give the most simple, basic build as homage to the state of plastic models of the era. The only exception possibly being tracking down better decals, which are very poor in every respect. Ironically, the bird depicted in the kit decals crashed in 1969, so all the more reason to find different decals.

Anything more than £15 and you would be robbed, I would have only paid £7:50. Oh, £10, that’s not to bad at all.

Model Minutes after 50 years of modelling, I still get excited opening a new kit too! Can't imagine someone buying a kit and years later it's still unopened in the factory wrap.
