Every once in a while there is a podcast that fundamentally changes the way that I look at the world. This is one of those podcasts. I realized that I was blind to the very currency of life, technology and progress: Energy. And the cold carbon truth is that we are running out of it. What does that mean for us as a global society? Nate Hagens has dedicated his life to studying this dilemma, and he has determined that the most likely outcome is what he calls The Great Simplification. This is no doomsday prophecy. Our advances in technology (and energy consumption) have not made us any happier according to mental health metrics. Why would we think that EVEN MORE technology is going to work? Perhaps a return to simpler practices and local processes will be an unforeseen emotional boon. But there are immense structural challenges that need to be addressed in a timely manner to prevent famine, drought, and poverty.
Nate Hagens is the Director of The Institute for the Study of Energy & Our Future, professor, and host of The Great Simplification Podcast. He has spent decades grappling with the great issues of our time, and in this podcast we cover the gamut. Nate synthesizes human behavior, monetary/economic systems, energy, ecology, geopolitics and the environment into a coherent story of humanity’s current predicament. This is a challenging reality to face, but face it we must if we’re going to continue to live on this planet. This podcast is for the bold, those of us with the courage in our hearts necessary to grapple with the meta-crisis and act in a way to shepherd humanity onto the correct course.

I'd love to see Nate Hagen as RFK, Jr's Secretary of Environment, or Agriculture or Energy...or whatever the appropriate department name is. He's got the stuff and Bobby has the drive to preserve the Earth for our children's children.

We are already in dystopia. The cities and system we live in obscure us to the fact trees and and msterials run out. People hundreds of years ago knew this and were concerned abkut such things and here we are not giving a shit

So there’s people that say this, juxtaposed with others who say “oil is not a fossil fuel, oil is not scarce, they’ve never found a fossil below 16,000 ft , they pump oil from below 30,000 ft all the time, the deeper they drill the more they find, and that it is like blood in humans..it regenerates.” I’m not arguing for these points, however this also goes along with the water scares they are plaguing us with, while some people say there’s a concept called primary water, and that the earth actually makes its own water… And I wonder about all the scare-leading-to-control narratives. Do we create this reality or don’t we? And by believing we are running out, are we creating the experience of running out? Look at the land! You can take a desert and transform it into a regenerative forest by being a proper steward and bringing the right animals to the land. It’s been done countless times! I’m not surprised this “we are running out of oil” narrative exists. I am surprised that you, @aubreymarcus, are buying it. No judgement here! Just such a curiosity, cuz it totally is perpendicular to all of your other beliefs. XO

How much did he say ”I would argue?” He’s almost there in terms of understanding energy exchange. He’s promoting the ESG movement. Please listen to others to be fully informed.

I was going to recommend you interview him. Happy to see him here! Don’t agree with everything, but I like his take that we are energy blind and not taking into account the true cost is very good. Would love to see you talk to Simon Michaux and Dr. John Robson. Get some different takes that aren’t speaking the same talking points.

This! We shouldn't have been wasting oil burning it for over 50 years! Unfortunately, there are complications surrounding the toroidal fields involved in plasmid energy, that decentralize power and have complicated safety considerations. These reactors have existed for 30+ years at least, probably closer to 70 but I don't have direct proof of that. Yet they have been classified. People need to demand the truth about this before they castrate society and freedom on the alter of scarcity. Too bad we can't even share DOI of academic papers without our comments getting shadowed...

More to the point. This is what Elon Musk has alluded to some years ago. Not that that matters overly much or anything, but the info isn't new. This is the major problem.
