One correction: Mage Armor doesn't work if you're wearing armor. It also sets your base AC to 13.
@KrisSchouw Жыл бұрын
Yes, this is correct. Though it wasn't said explicitly, the AC values they presented did match up. With leather armor (AC 11), Bladesong active (+3), and a 14 Dexterity (+2), they noted an AC of 16. When they added Mage Armor, it only added +2 to 18. This would imply that you'd use Mage Armor (13), Bladesong (+3), and Dexterity (+2) for that AC of 18. A fun way you can be a bargain-bin Barbarian once you get your special version of extra attack is to cast Blade Ward as your cantrip to give yourself the same resistances as Rage does. You can add to that that by casting Shadow Blade using as high a spell slot as you can afford to still be putting out decent damage round over round as well, since you don’t have to worry as much about making concentration saves thanks to the reduced damage and CON save bonus from bladesong during the rare times you do get hit.

This is making me think about the Bladesinger I played with in a high power game before I had to leave. We were running some different rules for the sake of high power, high danger, the most prevalent being as follows: Every level we got gave us a +1 ASI. For every level that would normally give us an ASI, we got the +1 and a Feat on top of that We had a magic item system similar to Baldur's Gate 3. We could have 1 cape/cloak, 2 rings, 1 headband/helmet, 1 belt, 1 pair of boots, 1 pair of gauntlets/bracers and 1 suit of armour each, along with any other miscellaneous stuff we could find. I was level 15 by the time I left and my Bladesinger/Battlesmith multiclass had a max potential AC of 34, had a +14 to hit with her spell attack rolls and a +11 with her weapons. The DM allowed me to create physical katana versions of my Flame Blade and Shadow Blade, and my Steel Defender (which I had upgraded with the body of a Steel Predator) was the one casting Haste on me while chilling in a Rope Trick. It's a very surreal feeling to have a pair of enemies that can go ballistic and attack 6 times launch all 12 attacks at me and not hit a single one, let me tell you

@Finalplayer14 Жыл бұрын
This was fun, great job love this video! Bladesinger's aren't truly as OP as this video makes them out to be, but they are a TON of fun and are strong. To mention some of their weaknesses or hurdles: -Bladesong has a limited number of uses equal to your PROF bonus per Long Rest and it ends if you're incapacitated. Meaning if you get affected by any effect that does that (Stunned, Unconscious, Paralyzed, Incapacitation) you lose a use of it and need to reset it. There will be fights where you don't want to Bladesong because you don't have infinite uses and you may need it later. So in some fights you're real squishy. -You have a lot reaction options and they all do really good defensive stuff but you only have one reaction to take. You get hit, you can cast Shield, but now you can't cast Absorb Elements to protect yourself from some big elemental damage AOE, you cast Absorb Elements, but now you can't cast Shield to protect yourself from a string of multi-attacks. You cast Counterspell, but now you can't cast Shield, Absorb Elements, or Silvery Barbs to protect yourself or other teammates from the other stuff in the fight! Its a give and take situation. -You have low HP, a d6 hit dice means when you get hurt (and you will), it hurts a lot. -The power of their weapon attacks begins to lessen the more you level into Wizard - not because your attacks get weaker, its because your spells get stronger! Wizards are powerful spellcasters, and their magic generally is stronger than swinging their sword all the time. Late game, there will come a time were your 3rd level - 5th level spells slots will be so plentiful that the Extra Attack feature doesn't really keep up to throwing out Fireballs, Synaptic Static, or even Mind Whip... thanks Arcane Recovery! Still, don't let any of this dissuade you from playing a Bladesinger, they're awesome and worth playing! In most games these issues aren't that big a deal (maybe the hit point one- the Tough feat exist to help there) so don't worry too much about this stuff and enjoy the song!
@Finalplayer14 Жыл бұрын
Also to toss on some homebrew fun! Bladesinger's in lore have a ton of different weapon types with different animal themed styles (Cat, Bird, and Snake) one of the most popular/iconic ones being the Lion Style Bladesinger who focused on Longswords. In addition, in some lore they were stated to be able to use their specialized weapon as a spellcasting focus. 5e Bladesinger's focus on Dexterity and Intelligence, so Longswords and other more Strength weapons, don't really work so well here. So here's a way you could easily homebrew that in if you're looking to use weapons besides Rapiers, Shortswords, or Scimitars: >Training in War and Song [Homebrew] >2nd-level Bladesinging feature >You gain proficiency with light armor, and you gain proficiency with one type of one-handed melee weapon of your choice. Choose one type of one-handed melee weapon you are proficient in, this weapon must lack the heavy property and special property. When you attack with this weapon in one hand, you can use your Dexterity instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls and you can use this weapon as a spellcasting focus for your wizard spells. >You also gain proficiency in the Performance skill if you don't already have it.
@StriderZessei Жыл бұрын
True but hyperbole = funny. And the fact is, Bladesingers are super-fun just for their flexibility. Burn up all your high-level spells? You can still pop Bladesong and jump into melee. Flying enemies harrying your allies? Cast Animate Objects and run around the battlefield cutting things down with a ton of flying blades. Want to go full anime and cut down your enemies like Trunks or Vergil? Drop Steel Wind Strike on those enemies while apologizing for having to go all out...just this once. Literal army coming after you to end your amazing power? Meteor Swarm is more than enough for them. There's a reason Tulok the Barbrarian uses Bladesinger for his Sephiroth and Sasuke builds. It's such a great class.

I would like to point out 2 things. The first is that as bladesinger you need that high AC since if you get hit you will likely go down in one or two hits so it's not as strong as it sounds since a single critical hit will likely drop u on the ground or close. The second is that haste could give you a secondo casting of cantrip since it gives you another whole attack action and not merely a single attack so (if it's fine for your dm since it can be considered a dubious interaction) even with the restriction one weapon attack only you can use booming blade that is a melee attack. Even funnier mix it with an hex blade to cast eldrich blast twice+attack any turn if buffed with haste for potentially 9 attack each round but if you do this you will probably die from a dispel magic and anything the DM might do to you while you can't take action it is often forgot that haste is a double edged sword
@KrisSchouw Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, RAW, you cannot generally use the extra action granted by the Haste spell to cast a spell. It is true that a Bladesinger has the unique ability to forgo one of their weapon attacks in favor of casting a cantrip, but the text of the Haste spell specifies that you can use it to take the Attack, but specifically one weapon attack. I can see a bit of a gray area since the wording of the Extra Attack allows you to exchange one weapon attack for a cantrip, but I feel like the Spell's effect is more specific than the Bladesong's effect, so it supersedes it. It's always up to DM discretion, of course, but I do believe RAW (and at every table I've either played a Bladesinger at), it's not permissible.
@Shamalaya311 Жыл бұрын

This kind of ignores that you can't use Int to swing a weapon. So in your example you have a +2 to hit, and that only goes up if you don't take feats, and don't increase your Int. So if you hit level 10 and still have a +2 to hit (because you increase your Int) while everyone else is sitting at +5, you definitely won't feel very god-like. If you chose to increase your Dex, then Int stuff stuffers, like save dc, spell attack, spells prepped, AC from bladesong, concentration save bonus, ability checks.

Might be fun as a bugbear with a 2 lvl dip into fighter. "That's a fun encounter you've set up, would be a shame if someone slayed 80 % with steel wind strike action surge steel wind strike." 😂😂😅😊
@isayinyang9310 ай бұрын
1st round: Bonus action start blade song about how you are about to paint the floor with your enemies blood, use action to control battlefield. 2nd round: bonus action cast shadow blade, your concentration is buffed anyway and as long as you are in dark or dim light you attack with advantage with your weapon. You can booming blade with your action 3rd round: Steel wind strike whoever is still standing at advantage, dealing the shadow blade damage AND the steel wind strike.
@woutvanostaden129910 ай бұрын
@@isayinyang93 A bugbear ambush attack of an extra 2d6 per hit only works on the first round of combat, so unless you set it up before combat this doesn't work out entirely. Combining steel wind strike with shadowblade is very cool though! 🤑😁😁🤣

dnd feels broken in just that right way (most of the time) that makes you feel awesome but doesnt just obliterate your existence if you know what ur doing. its like theres so much crazy stuff in this game that it doesnt really feel bad imo most of the time because the market of broken is so saturated and the broken stuff sometimes take so many compounding sources that it feels like it levels out, leading to this kind of awesome but somehow reasonable and manageable feel

Honestly haste is a bit overrated for Bladesinger. On paper it sounds good, but for another basic attack I felt it wasn’t worth it. The movement and versatility of the extra action was nice, but for offence I found a level 3 shadow blade made my attacks much more spicy. Innate advantage in dim light/darkness 3d8 base damage. Two attacks and one of them can be a blade cantrip means you’ve got something like 3-6d8s on your first hit and 6-9d8s if both attacks hit. As opposed to 3 d8 attacks with one blade cantrip, a total of 3-6d8s if they all hit.
@МихаилБеликов-ы1х Жыл бұрын
On 5 level haste better because you have only one attack then it depends of how good your magic sword(rapier :) )
@bigsmoke8816 Жыл бұрын
One problem is that RAW booming blade and green flame dont work with Shadow Blade since the cantrips specify a material component of "a melee weapon worth at least 1 sp" and Shadow Blade technically doesnt have any innate value

TBF Shadow Blade is probably a better option than Haste in many situations.

Great explanation. One problem. You get only one reaction, which means you can't both cast "shield" and reduce damage to nothing as a reaction.

He's reducing AoE spells like fireball to 0. Spells that deal damsge without having to "hit" other wise use shield. You've got both bases covered. Seen other people say use blade ward for your contrip.

You can also be a blade bard and have better hit dice. Plus you get some hilarious maneuvers that make you a discount monk. Dislike giving your party members bardic inspiration? Spend them for your OWN benefit instead, with the blade bard! _Side effects may include impalement and falling to your death, which is how my character eventually ended._ R.I.P. _Plagiarism,_ the Kenku Bard.

I had thought up an insane build for Bladesinger.... Be a halfling to have halfling luck, take war caster, take resilient and be profanity in con saves and NEVER lose concentration on a spell ever again. personally I dont like playing halflings so I would pick a drow for free fairie fire and advantage on charmed saving throws and take mobile, elven accuracy along with resilient, and war-caster

Also with the extra attacks you can cast shocking grasp at an enemy wearing metal armor with advantage and still get another hit in while you are also much safer because your ac is so much higher than a regular wizard.

I quite sure it may have been said in here but blade song don't work with a shield unless you DM allows it. and mage armor starting it at 13 + you can't use it with your wore armor you would have to pick with one to use.

You've made a few mistakes in this video: 1: You can't get +2 dex and +3 int on any race, you can get with regular human and not using any other rules +1 in all stats. 2: Mage armor and leather armor does not stack, as mage armor says "You touch a willing creature who isn't wearing armor, and a protective magical force surrounds it until the spell ends. The target's base AC becomes 13 + its Dexterity modifier. The spell ends if the target dons armor or if you dismiss the spell as an action." Note the whole: a creature who isn't wearing armor. This isn't a +bonus but modified the base AC of a creature. As such it cannot be stacked with other armors. So you'd have an AC of 15 with mage armor active (Dex 14-15). And using shield spell that's an AC of 20. Then combined with Bladesinger ability (let's say 16-17 Int) you can get a total of 23 AC. Which is a lot for sure, but you only have a specific number of first level spellslots. So realistically you'd have an AC of 18. 3: Haste is good on Bladesingers yes, but if you do get hit, you're gonna have a harder time passing that concentration check due to low constitution, and that's if you do get hit. And if that happens the haste penalties are horrific. Now you do have a point with the whole reduce damage equal to the spells level times 5. Which can make that constitution check MUCH easier but still not easy by any means Other then that I agree with every other point
@spiceyicey Жыл бұрын
1. That was the final modified after including standard array 2. That armour didn't stack, when he cast mage armour his ad went up by 2 rather than 3, implying it was replacing the leather armour 3. Blessings get a huge concentration save buff, and in later levels blessings can absorb damage

Bladesinger is my first ever character for my first ever game. DM said it fits me well. At level 14 now, AC 27, Dex at 20 and Int at 22 (magic item) my favorite spell combo is to use a potion of speed (haste without concentration) crown of stars (no concentration) and then Tenser's transformation. +50 to health and advantage on all melee attacks and additional 2d12 on melee attacks. Plus 4d12 with bonus action for crown of stars. And i have the cloak of displacement making all attacks against me with disadvantage. I basically told our Paladin to step aside, Im the Tank now.

I particularly like blink as its a non-concentration middle finger to whoever wanted to hit you that turn as you disappear 50% of the time, and reappear within 10ft of where you disappeared.

The main down side is you need int can and dex/str for this to work and if your not doing rolled that’s difficult
@Chiungalla79 Жыл бұрын
It`s super easy doing it without rolled attributes. I have a Bladesinger and it`s not that hard really. Don`t forget that you are usually an Elf, making +2 Dex a given and +1 Int very easy to get. 18 Dex and 16 Int are easy within reach, and that`s a power level most characters can dream of. And never forget that bladesinging is your fall back to option for when the spells slots get depleated and all other wizards are craving for a long rest. You are still a wizzard first and foremost. And the fireballs and chain lightnings will always be your prefered way of dealing with shit. That makes this class so extremely powerfull. It reduces the major drawback of wizards (never enough spell slots) to a minor nuisance.
