Unpopular opinion= this is my favorite subclass of my favorite class in all of DND. Some thing about being the white knight in shining armor is some thing that I find awesome also smiling photos with the fury of God well, I think Sabaton is also something awesome

@@KnicKnac What subclass would you give him? I'd say it's Devotion or Ancients (kindle the light, be the light). I could see a case for Crown, but Cap is absolutely not a "the law is paramount" type, he's canonically against the government as often as he's for it.

Chaos hobos are a good way to unwind, but the sheer satisfaction that comes with Golden Retriever energy gives me life. I tend to shift into the ideals that devotion paladins give off as I play in a campaign for long enough. Playing a vengeance paladin… but he’s actually a half-decent guy. Playing a teddy bear, and he’s the group mascot. Going to play a grung who hates himself… but he’s more than likely gonna turn into a golden retriever frog boy.

Currently playing an Aasimar Devotion paladin of Lathander in an Eve of Ruin campaign and having an absolute blast. The DM let us all choose an special item and allowed me the obvious choice, a sunsword. SO MUCH radiant! "May Lathander's light s̵h̵i̵n̵e̵ {SMITE} upon you!!!" lol

I once tried playing a Devotion Paladin in a game my little sister wanted to run. It only lasted one session so the only thing I really got to do was lambast a child to following us into a dangerous forest. At the time I thought my sister just wanted to have a tag along kid with us (which my paladin was NOT having, hence the lecture) but she recently revealed that the kid was actually the BBEG of her story... and I'd sent him home on my dog mount to think about what he did.

This is also my favorite Paladin subclass. It’s one I feel gives enough support options to allow you to be a fairly competent buffer and healer along with some good offensive and tanking functionality built in. Plus it provides something for the Paladin that all the other subclasses do. Roleplay potential. It’s incredibly fun to think about why your Paladin is the way they are, what brought them to swear these oaths, how do they interpret them and what can be the personal costs of trying to be this idealized person.

The classic Paladin flavor. Is it simple? Yes. But it's still a very solid class and, sometimes, you just want to play a Paragon who does the right thing BECAUSE it's the right thing to do. It's just that sometimes, the right thing to do is pick up your sword and SMITE a fool.

The Devotion Paladin is in the new revised PHB (even the free version on D&D Beyond so likely soon in the CC) and at the moment is the most powerful and effective paladins. Of course Paladins are not as SUPER NOVA as they were but this Paladin is way more effective and even comes with a “form Blazing (Sacred) Sword 🗡️ “ as a Channel Divinity. Worth a look.

Hmm, Makes me wonder how well a paladin would do in a grappling fighting style. A bro who loves hugs. I know it's probably not in the rules, but making a Smite into piledriver would feel fun to me, at least on things it can actually grab and toss.

5.24 aasimar aoe damage option + unarmed smite = making them see the light/sending them to the light build. With crown getting spirit guardians you'll have a real fun time slamming their face into the ground and grappling them. 😂😊😅

My Devotion Paladin, the aptly named 'Anjelus the Good', was among one of my favorite characters I've ever played for the reasons you outlined. My party were all a bunch of chaos gremlins, edgelords, and murder hobos at the best of times. Being that moral compass for the party, the one who asks the questions straight and doesn't try to scheme or trick, and the one who gained the reputation for being the holier than thou undefeatable punching bag, the tank to end all tanks, was such a *massive* change of pace from my fellow players that I really felt like I was filling a rather unique role. I fricken' love Anjelus. Definitely going to play her again one day.

Just want to shout out to the "Knight of Hope" that was used for a few of the graphics in this video. Its a short film done by a group that do a lot of historic recreation fights. Give them a look.
