I felt a little like you, deeply moved and unable to express why, and like I'd learned something important but that I didn't understand it enough to speak intelligently about it. If this game is a puzzle, I put it together and looked at the image it created, and I KNEW what I saw in my emotional depths, but I could not see ALL of it, and I could not describe it. I don't think this game is for me to fully understand, but I want to.

I love how you approached this video both with humility and bravery. I can very much relate to your feeling of being deeply moved by the story that is not your own and the fear of not being able to do it justice. But in the end, that is what art is about and that is what it is for - to bring us closer together and to help us understand things we have or have not lived through. And sharing what you’ve learned from the story is a great way to show appreciation for it, without stealing the spotlight.

This might be one of the best comments I’ve ever gotten. You honestly both changed my perspective on some of my channel ideas (as I often stop myself from making content because I don’t feel qualified to talk about the subject) and made me feel more confident in videos such as this one. Genuinely, thank you! And thank you for watching! Found out recently that the 31st of december was a record breaking day in terms of sales for the 1000xRESIST devs and I couldn’t be happier. This game deserves all the success!

@ And in turn, you inspired me to learn more about what happened in HK in 2019 and 2014, and to learn more about what generational trauma is. Things that I’ve heard about in passing, but never really knew anything of substance on. So thank you for the video, and the example you set for me! Hope you continue making more with the same curious and open mind.

20:23 I really love this aspect of it. How Watcher outright says ‘there is a violence in change’. I tried to save everyone too, I thought I didn’t have the right to change it. But I like how the game sticks to its message. You can’t abandon everything, can’t shed your past; but not everything can and should be carried either.

Great video. We are in a very similar boat. I also felt super uneducated about some of the events, or dynamics in the game, but the writing was so good that you dont really need to know everything in order to FEEL everything. This was such a striking melancholic masterpiece, even a month later i still think about it regularly. p.s. btw, there is now a MAP in the game, they added it with the latest patch

I'm really glad the game resonated with you as much as it did with me. Works of art like this really are rare to come by. And regarding the map, someone else also told me about it and it really just goes to show how much time I spent trying to write about this game. A whole damn update came out while I was working on the script hah. It also goes to show THAT THESE DEVS RULE! Not having a map was one of my biggest complaints and thankfully it's now fixed!

Wow, Pigeon Prime is my new role model! But I'm glad my previous, now fired, role model Prezmer is back to making videos! And what an amazing pick of a game! Also, since I'm 100% going to play it myself, I skipped the latter half of the video for now. So hi to my future self watching it in the future!

Thank you for this! I greatly enjoyed the game and was absolutely floored by it's emotional depth and unflinching representation of trauma from multiple perspectives. The art style seems overly simple at times - but there are some incredibly fast transitions in later scenes that wouldn't have worked with a more resource intensive look. Overall, just an incredibly efficient and effective narrative adventure.

@@prezmer Any work of art that forces its viewer to consider their humanity in a way they've never had to is worth spending time with. Devilman Crybaby, Attack on Titan, Mario Galaxy, Minecraft for the first time after moving out of ur parents house, and now this. I'll give it a go 4 sure... I just need to save a bit more money lol

Okay so how I interpreted this game from your video is that, control/gameplay wise, it's very janky but the story and narrative should nullify how you feel about the control aspect of the game. So all in all hearing that, I'm just having trouble installing the game in fear of the jankyness that would just frustrate me and keep me in a negative mindset throughout the game so I just end up hating every small minor issue. I'm sure once I'm actually in, the motivation of the story would keep me invested to ignore the issues but to actually install the game in the first place is a huge step. But the story seems to be so great that I hear nothing but absolute praise from everyone for this games narration. It's a weird mix, A games gameplay is lackluster but it's narration is the best of the best. I'm kinda leaning towards just watching a youtube playthrough of the game at this point but I'm still not sure yet

I'm always conflicted by games like this. I think it depends on the lenght of it. If they are somewhat short, I can "play" them. But if they are too long or the gameplay is just walking around and reading, I get bored. One example of a story heavy game but with good gameplay is Void Stranger. It has an awesome story but you spend like 90% of the time actually playing a game.

It’s reeeeeally hard to compare these two titles, they’re almost polar opposites. For me 1000xRESIST is up there quality-wise, but the focus of said quality is in the thought-provoking story above all else. There’s no combat or anything like that. So if you’re into ultrakill for the high octane action, you probably won’t enjoy this one. 2024’s been a banger for indie games though so I’m sure you’ll find more like it!

I fully understand. This is, at its core, a narrative focused game that even the devs call a walking sim/visual novel (though I don’t entirely agree). Unfortunately these genres tend to be boring to quite a few people. The focus here is fully on the art, music and above all else, the story and themes… which is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea (what is, anyway?). But for those who might be interested in the genres, this will absolutely be one of the best titles this year!

I know this comment is from 6 months ago, but if you haven’t I’d still recommend trying out this game. I kinda thought the same thing but tried it out anyway. I was kinda surprised by some of the level design and little things they put in to the game to make it more interesting. By the time I was a quarter of the way through the game, I was hooked by the game and most importantly, the story.
