I can't believe these car brands can't get a transmission right, but it's still a big problem for many cars, SUVs, and trucks. These are unreliable cars with unreliable transmissions and you should just plain old avoid these vehicles...at least in my opinion!

My neighbor's daughter's first car is a 2018 Chrysler 200 Limited with a 2.4L four-cylinder engine and a ZF 9-speed. The transmission was jerky at times and they took it to the dealership for repair. The car was bought through a local Chrysler dealership and was a trade-in. My neighbor told me they reprogrammed the transmission and it is fine as we speak. The car is very nice, and well taken care of, so I am glad that was the only problem with the car. I don't like all of these multi-geared transmissions, but most of us don't have a choice. We have four Dodge Caravan work vans at work that all have exceeded 130,000 miles on average without a problem. They have six-speed units without a problem with the 3.6L V-6.

Mark, the 10R80 is the Ford variant of the 10 speed automatic, you labelled it as the GM variant in this video, which is incorrect. The GM variants are 10L80, 10L90 and “E” letter designation. Transmission RPO code is MX0 for the GM 10 speed. Your information on the GM 8 speed is correct, and this law-suit is LONG-OVERDUE! From what I’ve heard, read, and had personal experience with the Ford variants typically are experiencing more issues with the 10 speed 10R80. All depends on who you talk too, worst transmission’s still have to be Nissan CVT as you indicated. Many brands though are experiencing issue’s with their various CVT transmission’s. Thanks for highlighting these Mark, have a good one, cheers!

Automotive industry has been building transmissions, manual for over 120 years, automatics for like 100 years and we still get stories like this. There is no need for an automatic transmission with more than 4-5 gears. The first three geared for city driving and acceleration and the 4th. And if there is a 5th. as overdrives for highway driving and fuel economy. These automakers are needlessly complicating, driving up the price, lowering reliability of all these modern transmissions.

My 2006 Ford Explorer transmission self-deleted at 176k miles. I was doing ~70 mph on the interstate and it sounded like a gunshot when it failed. Lost 2nd & 5th gear both. The truck still drove on the three gears I had left, so I reduced speed to 60 mph and drove it 300 miles to my destination. A factory-rebuilt transmission was right at $5000 (parts & labor). @@alfredyost7972 hard to say. Best guess is improper maintenance or maybe low fluid level, since there's no dipstick to check it. It had 112k miles when I bought it, so if the previous owner(s) didn't change it, it would have 176k miles on the original fluid when it failed. The Gen 4 Explorer (2006-2010) was based on the Ranger pickup, so your 2009 should have been RWD (it became a FWD crossover in 2011 with the Gen 5).

I worked at Chrysler,FCA at the time, for two yrs from 13-15. But we would put the transmissions on the test stands and they would fail but our supervisors made us tag them as "ok" and ship them. Even though they failed. Even in production while making the components for the transmissions the parts would be out of acceptable perimeters and again we would be told to tag them as good parts and send em to assembly. One day I asked why are we shipping transmissions as good after they failed and parts weren't correct and I was told that's what a warranty is for. No joke. So ppl are buying new cars with bad transmissions from the dealership. Then add in the alcoholics and drug addicts Chrysler employs and allows to come to work drunk or high. They drink on the job. Get high on the job. Knowing what I know and seen I would NEVER buy a Dodge, Chrysler,Ram or Jeep.

The new Jatco has 25,000 miles on it and is beginning to act up already. A lot of bad automotive maladicta about the Jatco turd box CVT, to the point where it sounds as though Nissan destroyed their brand by using them. But no attempt to improve or replace. 30K fluid changes might help, but inherently they are bad. Toyota's CVT is fairly reliable, used in Corolla and even the new Crown series (except the Platinum which as a 6 speed non-CVT). The TH400 GM transmission (introduced in 1965) was considered one of the best transmissions ever made, three speed, a cast iron unit, even Rolls Royce used them from about 1967 until 1992. Now GM has fallen to junk.

As to Chryco. They made pretty reliable automobiles through the 80's and 90's. Laugh what you want folks but those K-cars of the 80's many were running 20+ years later. The 2.2 litre, 2.5 litre even the Mitsubishi based 3.0 litre engines of the time were pretty bullet proof. Even the the turbos were good as long as you changed the oil and filter as well as flushed the coolent regularly and they chugged along well. I owned an 88 Daytona Shelby Z with the 2.2 litre intercooled turbo. It had 245,000 kms on it when I stupidily chose to sell the car. The engine and turbo were just fine at the time. My 5 speed manual worked properly all those kms. The Chrysler old school 3 spd. Automatics used through the 80's into the 90's were all good transmissions. The early electronic controlled 4 spd autos had some issues but did get worked out ok.. where they as good as a Toyota or Honda? No not quite but they were not trash.

Consumer report suggests that Nissans are actually reliable vehicles! But regardless of that I have seven Nissans in my family none of them have had engine or transmission issues! But everybody else in my family with American or German vehicles all they ever have is issues! I just traded in my 2010 Altima with 250,000 mi for a 2021 with 30,000 mi! These vehicles are workhorses and for the most part just as reliable as every other good brand out there! The problem with Nissan is people that never have driven them are always talking as if they could actually speak on the type of reliability of the vehicle. I would literally respect some of you more if you would just say yes I don't like the transmission but I don't know how reliable they are! Personally I always change my oil on time amongst all the other maintenance, but I do lyft and Uber I promise you I hammer the dog piss out of this transmission and every morning I wake up for work again and she's ready! Like I said 250,000 mi is nothing to snuff at when everyone said it wouldn't make it past 30,000 mi! Like I Like I said before every Nissan model has high ratings in every category but regardless of that the internet will always be the internet and the internet is the biggest reason why Nissan isn't having good sales right now! Like literally what do you expect someone's trying to buy a car and everyone online is saying don't buy something of course that company isn't going to make a lot of money! But what you do see is modern Nissans still being purchased and not on the side of the road like EV Hummers hellcats Durango's Ford broncos Chevy blazers and the list goes on Nissan is releasing quality products while almost everybody else is releasing shit! If you want to get a quality vehicle buy a Nissan ignore everything else don't listen to ignorance on the internet!

Don't forget new Tacoma automatic and manual transmissions. Both like to fail before the first oil change, often before 1K miles. Then 4-6 months for a replacement.

Great review. Three family members recently purchased Nissan Rogues (2024, 2025 models). Do these SUVs still have such CVT trannies? Thanks.

@@jaimeknight7505 They never asked me, because I drive 2012 and 2013 Hondas with regular geared transmissions and would have advised them against Nissan. They fell for the looks and lower prices of those dogs.

They will be fine with their Rogues .. The transmission are perfectly fine .. The engines as long they service them on time it will be okay

My old Honda hr-v made in Mexico had its cvt making grinding noises, jitters, etc. I then found out that cvt transmissions tend to break before other types. So now i decided to get the car i have now (the 21 A4 with the s tronic DCT) and it’s been great just did some services for it aka the 50k service Now my next gripe with people are the Toyota fanboys and some owners (mostly the fanboys though) who come and comment on videos that have nothing to do with Toyota and leave hate comments to cause arguments with people. Toyota can outlast some brands but they have issues too, and the fanboys refuse to admit that aspect, they just join up in the comments of a bmw or Audi themed video and say hate comments just to get the owners to argue with them. Thank god the Honda people weren’t this way, all they did was put a fart can exhaust on their civic 😂😂

It's completely stupid manual transmissions aren't even an option anymore. I hate automatics.
