These car brands are hated by mechanics and I think you should avoid them. These are the car brands to avoid in 2024 as far as I'm concerned and I think you'll see why as I walk you through the worst car brands and why they're just not made for you as a consumer.

Except almost all naturally-aspirated engines today are 100% GDI (direct injection) engines & prone to carbon-sludge problems as they age due to top tier fuel additives not being able to physically hit half of what they need to (unlike an engine with port injection).

@@ECPP Agreed! I have older toyotas: '06, '02(both have the 2.4Ltr. 2AZ-FE), and a '99 w/5spd(1.8Ltr 1ZZ-FE) my mechanic loves that I have cars with simple engines. I do most of the maintenance myself(which is worth it), but there are a few rare occasions where I need his skill & expertise. The longest I've ever left any car with him was 2days. They may have high mileage, but I'm always easy on them, and I let them build up oil pressure before driving. I love my cars: cheap, reliable & comfortable😆😆😆😆 20yrs ago, I owned a VW, and got a rid of it after 9mos of headaches & a lot of $$ wasted. I'll NEVER own a euro brand ever again!

It took me two hours to talk my girlfriend out of buying a used BMW with a broken speedometer cable. She also wanted to buy an ugly orange Porsche 911 that had a hideous paint job. She became depressed when the Porsche finally was sold by the dealer down the street. A couple weeks later, we saw the orange Porsche being towed and we both started laughing.

the amount of plastic parts that are making it into engine compartments these days is insane...there's saving weight/money, and then there's "something else"...(once took a vacation with someone in a mid-70s Volvo where one of the main gears in the engine broke because it was made of a reinforced fiber material instead of metal- a "main" gear for the function of the engine...unbelievable...)...

The 2.0 EcoBoost engine is a nightmare and Ford is STILL refusing to recall these engines! My 2017 EcoBoost- equipped Ford has ALREADY had its transmission replaced under warranty, at 59k miles, and now I'm hearing all about these particular Ford cars with these EcoBoost engines that need to be pulled out and replaced well before they hit 80-100k miles; my car now has 60k miles on it, and the warranty expires in December, SO....I'm actually finding myself wanting to get that "Check Engine" light to come on BEFORE December, because it just seems to be a matter of time before the coolant gets into the engine, corrodes the pistons and ultimately DESTROYS it! I absolutely am NOT in a position buy a new car OR new engine!!

That happened to actor Anton Yelchin he put his jeep into parked and it rolled away on him and pinned him to a brick pillar and died. Ask a stupid price for vehicles new and it comes with a piss poor build quality. Just another reason why automakers are suffering from Caflation and can't sell anything. Having managed a large fleet for decades, I can say with absolute certainty that it all comes down to proper specifications on what you purchase and diligent maintenance schedules. I've had Explorers throw rods with less than 60k, I don't think I had any 2017 3.5 Ecoboost that we didn't replace both turbos in. On the other hand, the FWD normally aspirated ones were rarely in for anything other than preventive maintenance & inspections. Every make & model has its quirks, drive what you enjoy. I love an Audi, but I would never buy one that wasn't stock & didn't have meticulous dealer service records. With proper maintenance, even the most complex vehicles are a pleasure to own. If it's anything European, do your homework, know what to look for, and what should already be done. Personally, I wouldn't buy anything I would be afraid to repair myself. If you don't work on your own vehicles, shorten the shopping list down to those you can afford to pay someone else to maintain properly. Buy what you love & enjoy it to the fullest. 🚗

Your credibility took a major hit when you started saying that the jeeps were difficult to work on. I had a 2018 wrangler for 7 years and 80,000 miles. I did all my own work, including putting a Lyft on it all my oil changes. That truck never missed a beat. no corrosion no problems with anything. Maybe because you’re in Canada people drive around in Sal all year long? Anyway the Jeep couldn’t be a simpler car to work on and no mechanic worth his salt would criticize it.

Most of the failures described are only due to improper maintenance and/or usage. Oil and coolant leaks are always the result of oil and coolant degradation. Repair difficulties were dramatically overstated as well. Eight hours to replace a BMW electric water pump? Nope, it typically takes 2-3 hours max. That includes the 20 minute automated bleed procedure. I've replaced dozens over the years, and every one was destroyed by degraded (acidic) coolant. The generalizations used in this video are ridiculous.

Those cars needing engine pulls to change components that were once accessible (like a water pump) or removing a complete dash to access a heater core, forget it! Research a vehicle first. Another issue is some non-dealer affiliated mechanics not having access to diagnostic equipment; tools, components, software relative to some vehicles and the owner having to pay inflated dealer repair costs. In the US a "Right to Repair" legislation called House Bill 906 is still in the works, but still may not be prudent for anyone other than independent mechanics and the equipment is costly. Guess who gets to foot the bill for that!!!

I am surprised that you think the Ford Explorer is a bad vehicle. My first one we drove it for 180,000 miles until I crashed it. I liked it so much we bought a second one. Both were naturally aspirated V6 engines and front wheel drive. Our second Ford Explorer is a 2018 and is still going strong. We did have one problem with it. The plastic horn stopped working. That is the only problem we had. I do understand that turbo charging a small 4 cylinder to move a heavy car is not a good idea. If want to buy a bigger car you should also get a bigger engine too. Toyota is now struggling with this. Thoughts?

So once again you've chosen to ignore the new Smartstream engines from Kia/Hyundai. You showed an old Hyundai Santa Fe that has the old Theta 2 engine. The Smartstream engines have been out since 2020, so what say you about them? I haven't heard anything about the Smartstream engines needing to be replaced or having engine fires etc... If you're ignoring them, then I guess that makes them reliable. Right? It's been 4 years with the new engines so you might actually have to do some work and change your tune on Kia/Hyundai instead of pumping out the same old tired videos.
