I Think that this is just the current meta! And Montu is a meta player at his core! Next time i play, i Will double check the farmer food produktion vs miner mineral output, and the conversion rate of food to alloys vs Minerals to alloys, before fully embracing it, just to check that it hassent been nerfed! But if it hassent, catlityc prossesing, here we go! But if it has been nerfed, then i would definitly choose masteruddannelse crafters instead on a moral playthrough, wich i intend to do a lot of if i ever Got my hands on the game, or citizen service if i did a wide playthrough, where i tries to conquer the Galaxy!

Also, you can trade food to keep aggressive empires at bay or to slowly build up relations with empires over time. Food is vastly underrated as a diplomatic tool. Also, I love setting up long-term big time food trade deals with other empires and then canceling the trade right before you go to war and it tanks their economy

Regular empires also have access to the Bio-Reactor now. At a base conversion of 25 food to 20 energy it is pretty efficient. You can even increase that by taking things that reduce building upkeep, like Prosperity, Cyberneticly ascending, getting a governor with the upkeep trait. It gets pretty wild if you stack it. Only downside being opportunity cost of a building slot. Upside being, it costs no pop working it.

@@Deshiba that is indeed a downside but it is free energy. 5 hydroponic bays, at minimum, would power two reactors for 5 energy, producing a net gain of 35 energy with zero pops being used. My math may be wonky as I'm sleep deprived right now but it seems logical to me at the moment. It only gets better as your starbase output is boosted via techs and (as someone else pointed out) you put more upkeep reduction planetside to skew the profit margins even more.

One potential problem that I think should be mentioned: planetary effects and events. If you get the ‘mine too deep event’ you get a massive mineral job efficiency upgrade. But I don’t know about any planetary events that up farming efficiency. Something to keep in mind.

Catalytic processing also has a bunch of perks that make it IMO the best civic in the game. For starters, it allows you to split planet production (districts/buildings) from alloy production completely, which stops your military expansion getting in the way of your economy expansion or vies versa. Another plus is that hydroponics farms can be built on starbases and on any planet, so food is much easier to ramp up quickly without being limited by planetary features or territory like minerals. Lastly, since you pretty much never need to spend food outside the monthly budget, you can keep that food surplus fairly low without suffering any real drawbacks

How do livestock even work in Stellaris? Are the pops just kept around and fattened up only to be slowly killed to make food? How do you fatten up a lithoid or plantoid? Assuming most sentient life forms are like humans keeping sentient livestock is a bad idea. There are several key criteria that make a good livestock species, humans have none of them and it would be a good idea to assume alien life forms don’t eat everything, don’t breed like rabbits, and will run away and even outsmart you if you try and cage it.

So I had a thought on this... Hiveminds get +50% job count from agri segments on ringworlds, while Machine empires get +1 alloy per foundry drone (base) and +1 food per agri drone (base). Combine that with their respective variants of Catalytic Processing, which of these authority types would be best for getting the most out of their economy in terms of alloys? Thinking of doing like a ringworld rush with either of them.

Yes, I'm surprised Montu mentioned Shattered Ring but not Aquatic + Agrarian Idyll with Catalytic Processing as the third civic. You have unlimited Food districts too, your Anglers produce 8 instead of 6 base food with extra 2 trade value and amenities (making them super efficient) and your consumer goods pops use less minerals and some food. Ring worlds are always nice and almost any empire can use them - if needed as a science world. The biggest problem is the habitability which can only be negated with robot pops. The only reason that I can think of is that the aquatic/agrarian/catalytic build has been around for a while, making it a "standart" build while farmers on ring worlds is something I have not heard before.

My favourite catalytic build is a void dweller machine intelligence (with the Machine Age update), since the hydroponics designation for habitats switches the habitation district jobs over from maintenance drones to farmers, and each district giving 0.5 building slots. Chuck down an advanced bio reactor, now you've got an energy recoup and exotic gas production. You churn out alloys, can build big research stations, and don't need minerals for anything other than building (and you get quite a few just from where your orbitals are built). Then go modularity and turbo produce robros. With the civics I tend to combine, I'd be hard pressed to combine it with rogue servitor, but, the starting alloy production you get with a habitat are really high, so you can forgo expansion to go for an early war, to resettle those pops as bio trophies. These lead to some pretty insane modifiers on your science habitats. That said, the strategy is a little more inconsistent, still, quite viable. Edit: Forgot to mention that you can stack the unity producing jobs on your agri habitats as well, since they will give +2% output from menial drones per evaluator after you finish modularity. It's easier to do this on agri stations since the habitation districts give you double the building slots of a mining one.

So does that mean combining Catalytic Processing with Anglers finally works wonders? Between Pearl Divers and Consumer Benefits Trade, you'll never need to build any Consumer Good buildings. This also uncaps all Agriculture Districts on Ocean worlds so you can spam everything out. Meaning, you don't really need minerals if you're not a hive mind; just get what you need from Space. Add in Agrarian Idyll and you're also getting building slots and more Amenities from your farmers. What do you think?
@charlieblocher7456
@charlieblocher7456 Жыл бұрын
Organic Repossessing was always a good choice for Hive Minds, and it wasn't necessarily terrible for SEs, but not amazing. Hive Minds needed minerals for Research, and couldn't benefit from efficiency bonuses later on from making them into CGs before spending those for Research. That meant moving alloy costs over to food was a notable benefit.

I have been running a fungal aquatic build for quite a while now. Take unruly, -5% habitability, budding, aquatic, agrarian. Go hive mind with catalytic reprocessing, rush research early to play for terraforming as its necessary for ocean paradise start. Its a little slow at the beginning, build 2 mineral, rush research, push energy, transition away from food production on capital for more energy as colonies start producing food, as food surpluses build more industrial, once you get dedicated energy planets swap capital away from energy. Having the size 39 (30+3(ocean paradise)+4(orbital rings)+2(mastery of nature) capital world with 39 alloy districts plus the bonuses of hydrocentric etc etc is beyond powerful. Focus food and pop growth. Its tall early, widest I play late. Very fun.

This has always been the case. In very late game you spend your engineering tech on armor upgrades, society tech on food upgrades.

Playing catalytic with anglers at the moment. Took ocean paradise as my origin and the diver jobs negate the need for almost any miners.

This is why I love Ocean Paradise, start with Agrarian Idyll and Anglers for massive amounts of food, amenities, consumer goods, and trade value, almost completely offsetting your empires need for minerals at all, and then throw on Catalytic Processing for ship production. After a certain point you end up selling off the excess food and consumer goods to the point you don't even need to produce energy. Your economy becomes untouchable and you have the mean to control or even break the economies of other empires by setting up trade deals then breaking them before sweeping in to conquer them. You don't technically need to take the Ocean Paradise origin to make this work, but it is very nice. The Hydrocentric ascension perk helps terraforming every habitable planet you find into an ocean world, and you can pretty much leave the Nutritional Plentitude policy on forever once you have the unity to spare. It's a great strategy for spreading your empire far and wide and allows for multiple ethic options depending on how you want to treat your neighbors. Haven't tried making a trade empire yet, but this would likely dominate that style of play as well.

Do it! Join the dark side - we have cookies and shattered ring orgins. But in the end Montu you understood that path of food is a way to abilities many would consider unnatural. :D

Montu I have to say that I tried that food focus Catalytic Processing strategy a moment ago and it's simply broken. Swimming in resources, fleet eclipsing half of combined galaxy, fallen empire's ass kicked for dark matter/energy technology, L-Gate conquered and almost all megastructures built before late game crisises spawning, solid 50-100 years before when I usually get to that point. Catalytic Processing is now an absolute must for every playthrough ever.

I honestly feel like someone at Paradox suggested this change just to spite you. But I'm here for making the numbers on my spreadsheet better.
