I believe this plugin is a revolutionary addition for jungle and any 90s-inspired music. I absolutely love it; it genuinely emulates the warmth of real hardware. With a multitude of cool features packed into one plugin, there's hardly a need for anything else. Before diving into my track, I spend some time discussing its merits. Admittedly, I may have rambled a bit too much, particularly about my thoughts on modern jungle music, which I haven't kept up with. I apologize for any confusion; I could have edited it out, but let's be honest, I'm a bit lazy to re-edit :D Feel free to skip ahead to the track, as that's the main focus of this video anyway.

:) I probably talked too much nonsense, but i honestly don't actually even listen to jungle at all, so what do i know ? There's definitely lots of it being made and some probably is good after all, but i was more shooting at stuff like High Contrast and such, which isn't really any different from pop music. However, what I want to show to everyone making jungle - don't overthink, be simple, just because you can have any plugin and any amount of stuff on your track, doesn't mean you should, you know ?

i know it may just seem like a no-brainer compatibility thing, but it does speak the language of the 90s scene. people coding plugins and coming up with new techniques were just as much demoscene, gearhead nerds as they were musicians. i remember back in the day i spent half the time cracking software, hanging out on IRC, and trying to make stuff work. dudes messing with early versions of Reaktor and synthedit on a low-level DSP level. That was in the late 90s. i can only imagine the guys in early 90s on Amiga were really having to dive into code and tech stuff to push the envelope. anyway yeh its cool they remembered linux. devs are cool

I love that people are finding the inspiration to make this kind of music again. If a tool makes it easier, I'm all for it. Drum and Bass became a sort of technical arms race to produce the loudest, heaviest tracks. You can't make the best dnb without a very production-oriented style of clipping, ducking, limiting and multiband-compression with loudness considered at every stage. It's great to see people rediscover the space and complexity that jungle allowed without wringing every last decible out of their track. The bit depth and sample rate is a small part of it, but the aesthetic is even more. Thanks amigo for the renewed energy this plugin is bringing. Let's let the music breathe.

I've never understood loudness wars for dance music. If it's blasted on a huge system surely loudness becomes the last priority when mixing?
@rachidow2125

Sometimes, 2 or 3 claps, that fit together and well mixed and proccesed, is sounding much better, fuller, more rich according to many people. If u remove them, it’s quit (er) Also, everybody is referencing eachother, what is a good thing in many ways, but maybe that’s why we keep staying loud as the norm
@E_-_-
@E_-_- 2 ай бұрын
@@robertbrook439 It's competitive that's why they call it a loudness war. If one song is 'louder' than the other, it's often perceived as better. So if one party starts increasing the loudness (or, reducing the dynamic range further) everybody else feels like they are forced to do it too

I know. I once did a 2 hour DJ set starting with 90s jungle / dnb and finishing with new stuff, the sound is very different and in a way for a sound system, newer stuff is more controlled and better, and younger generation prefer the newer stuff, so everything generally is a matter of personal taste. There no good or bad , right or wrong, it's either we like it or not. And those things may change over time.

Great video and amazing track. One thing I would add is that it's amazing to have such a community producing jungle music and so passionate about the sound, the intricates, the hardware, and particularly delivering this kinda of plug ins. It can be inspiring to many to be able to get the crispy futuristic sound and the limitation from back then were of course the backbone of the music scene. One should also mention that it's not necessary to have those things to be able to produce authentic jungle music or whatever they are trying to reach. Of course back then they didn't have so many options but I believe sometimes they wish they had Ableton, proper samplers with more memory etc. Limitation and aesthetics can be an artistic choice but they don't have to be an obstacle to produce something innovative. I think the problem with the jungle scene today is that sometimes it get stucks to the video games aesthetics stuff and people trying to emulate that when the main objective is to make music, not a product of a trend. Some of the most innovative tracks in jungle barely followed the trends back the and producers tried to push the barriers of what technology could offer them (thinking about "Baraka-I'll Be There", "Dj Crystl - Warp Drive", "Intense - Space Time Continuum")

Bought it ! Yes, old school Jungle tracks are better. They were really focused on the music and not sound design or processing, making sure it makes the crowd move, locking into a groove, making sure there was something that hooked the listener. The drums flow and roll so much more naturally, even when they are chopped to pieces. I think that new school producers missed an era, and they were introduced via Drum and Bass, which has that strong kick snare pattern which sort of left groove behind. The old school had the advantage of the groove in the breaks used, but they were still very aware of making the drums flow, and also the fills and details which made a subtle but effective difference. The talent ranged, you had some guys with little knowledge slapping tracks together, but then you had masters like Rupert Parkes, aka Photek. All that stuff sounds so much more intricate and incredibly composed as compared to modern DnB and Jungle. It's not just about programming but also capturing a vibe and theme that drives deep into people and they remember it for years to come. The majority of modern productions are cookie cutter throwaway tracks that don't have any longevity. Alot of similar sounding stuff. Your track captures the vibe perfectly once again 👍 I feel like i'm listening to a track made back then, but nice quality

Music back then was generally focused more on music. That's why I like it and something i miss in new stuff. I'll always prefer simple tracks that has jazz and other musical elements, than just lazer bass notes and heavy sound design, but no actual music in them :)

Hey man, nice video, your initial commentary really resonated with me, especially your thoughts on the evolving music scene. Your remarks on the basically DIY essence of jungle were particularly insightful, highlighting the minimalistic creativity that arises from working with limited resources and devices. Recently, I've been thinking about the emergence of this new breaks subgenre in the late 2010s - the sound of artists like Sewerslvt - not really jungle, breakcore, nor drum and bass, yet often labeled as atmospheric jungle/breakcore. Not sure why, maybe most people just associate the sound of fast breakbeat with DnB and when it get's too weird or chaotic well then it's obviously jungle or breakcore, right? lol. I think the tendency to miscategorize this music under jungle/breakcore has inadvertently shaped a new wave that’s distinct yet often incorrectly labeled. This newer form, some refer to as glitchbreak, blends the classic breaks format with like the aesthetics of vaporwave and our digital era, diverging significantly from the core of jungle or breakcore. I'm not dismissing it either, I'm just really autistic when it comes to pigeonholing, so I like to be clear about it, and I've also noticed that it's spouting some really heated debates on the internet, lmao. Still, there are newer artists amongst all this who are trying to push the boundaries of jungle and/or keep the genre alive. And it seems to me that jungle is really going through a renneissance. Just look at artists like Sully, Coco Bryce, FFF or even gum.mp3 & dazegxd, innovatively expanding the jungle genre's boundaries, even with their modern and polished sound.

Fun plugin! I think I'll use it more than just for 90s inspired stuff. personally I don't think modern jungle is bad per say, it's a unique charm on its own with its kinda polish that gives a sorta pristine nature to it fitting the futurism aspect (also I can hear a bit of liquid dnb to it which I consider it a nice thing), but yeah I do get your point in how that rough classic charm can get lost. I think in a way if it works, it works. I do like your thinking about not overproducing too much, a good thing to think minimally.

I've always loved listening to jungle drum and bass music and all this time I had no idea that bassline that I loved was coming from an 808 drum until seeing the sampler at 7:34. Also, when these guys would use their amen break, did they at all worry about time correcting the break to the current tempo, or just put slice markers at the points and play the sample from there? As I don't see where to input the original bpm of the sample to convert it to the project, I'm wondering if that was never done, it looks like you can adjust length and stretch the sample in the plugin.
@IJOSoundVideo
@IJOSoundVideo 2 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for tuning in. Yeah, the sub bass was , for the most part, a sampled 808 kick . Back in the day, producers were spending a good amount of time to pitch tuning breaks inside the sampler. These days it is so much easier to do that. In my case i pitch and tempo match my breaks in Soundforge , but you can do that in Amigo sampler as well by simply using the Tune slider. Good work, fella. I love that gritty, low bite-rate sound, and super saturated drums seem to be very much in fashion at the moment, in all kinds of electronic music. But for me - and this is a matter of taste - I find the kick on this track just a bit too distorted. I understand that helps it cut thru the mix - and on every kind of playback device - but the kick needs a "THUMP" which I feels has been compromised here. Just my 2 euro cents worth. The plugin looks super fun though!
@IJOSoundVideo

Thanks for the comment. The kick is part of the break, it just sounds like that. I believe the whole break is taken from the Amen Brother original vinyl, and that's pretty much how I left it. I don't separate kicks hats snares for separate processing, I am not making pop music :D Everything about this music supposed to be wrong :) To me it sounds totally fine, i can't hear any distortion to be fair
