Why do people in the comments try to tell a 6 time pro champion kickboxer what’s right and wrong like the arrogance of people 😂😂

The all time great boxer Salvador Sanchez used this defensive move a lot during his fights and countered very effectively off of it. He is often considered a defensive master and this was a big part of his defense game.

Good call. Salvador Sanchez is name not many people know. All time great boxers like Roy Jones and James Toney often cite Sanchez as their favorite boxer growing up

Could you make a video about moving backwards and cutting angles and head movement? I feel that’s something really helpful!

Man this is one of the best tips on the most important essentials. I saw a former coach use this a lot in sparring combo demonstrations where he did basically all the time without ever mentioning this technique itself at all, it was just deeply incorporated into his style. Used it ever since and find it is the most superior defense in sparring. Sure it leaves the body open, but since I personally do not do any kind of tournaments with full power, I can basically take all the hits to my body pretty easy compared to eating anything with my head.

I happen to like this block for bare knuckle or self-defense. It covers really well; even without gloves, and you're not relying on your hands to take bone on bone contact.
@gigachad6885Күн бұрын
Same, I prefer it to the 52 block Dustin Poirier uses, I feel like it's faster to chamber an attack with the same arm

I concentrate on protecting the arch on bottom of my feet from upper cuts.especially during horse stance.

Awesome video Gabriel. I have been utilizing the same block for years now and perfected it. Only thing I was not 100% sure about were the body shots and uppercuts, which I got the answer to in this video. Great stuff! 🥊

My elbow used to catch peoples feet and shines that way. Stopping them for a second. I liked to left and right roll guard to left and right elbow guard. I remember someone telling me not to do that and then someones foot played peek a boo with me elbow. we took a 30 second break.
@LOYAmusicКүн бұрын
I found this to be an effective defensive move, and it definitely feels like I am taking less impact than if I am just shell blocking with my glove. That said, sometimes sparring partners get upset with me for “using elbows” even though it is just a block not a strike 🤷♀️

As most gyms dont work enough on defence, are there any way when doing padwork, to work on your defence, that doesnt involve the padholder?

So would us southpaws be slightly more vulnerable doing this move? Because our right side would be more forward, the liver which extends down pass the ribcages only on the right side, would that make it more vulnerable to liver shots specifically?
@trapdoorbeaver2 күн бұрын
its way more than slightly vulnerable for us southpaws utilizing this technique on the lead, due to the open stance angles, the lead hand spike guard is more aligned to block the orthodox cross, while the rear hand is more aligned with the orthodox jab, this doesn't mean you cant use it on the lead hand since its still going to stop a jab and a head hook but its not without risk, i like to utilize the rear spike in combination with the lead in a standard dutch position for pretty full coverage defense to a jab which you can easily shift down when you see the body shot coming and your protected in that moment if they are feinting to setup a cross, lets you come forward and you can even catch them sleeping on a slow jab return and start a counter sequence Gabriel actually has another video of a super high guard style that can synergize with these spike guard techniques, and had a option of hollowing out your midsection to pull away from body hooks kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWHJhHiHjdxkhtk Ramon Dekkers SUPER HIGH Guard Is A MUST KNOW

Hi! I really like your emphasize on "closing the door" - closing the ellbow aaall the way over your nose line. IDK if you interested - but in the Rousey vs. Nunes fight, I think Rhonda tried to do the technique - but got hit hard. IMO because the ellbow wasnt "closed" enough. At 0:35 in the video kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWnJZ5-giciHbKs it is relatively observable :)
