No, and I'm not good enough at 3d modelling to explain in-depth, but basically it keeps things clean and easy to work with when rigging/animating models or subdividing them. You can probably find a video explaining it far better than I have.

@@thekingscrown8931 im just wondering why everywhere i see modeling it was triangles maybe bc it bc was game not animation?
@snorlax61042 ай бұрын
@@JoaoVitorBarg triangulation is used in gaming to make the model less heavy because igames need to render models at more than 60 fps
@GugureSux2 ай бұрын
@@JoaoVitorBarg To put it short, polygons ARE always in triangles. Quads are just two tris. Some engines and editors deal better with either one of the two, but most can deal with re-triangulation just fine these days on their own. If you are working on a truly low-poly game assets, it is good practice to learn to think and model things with tris, always thinking about edge loops' direction. BUT like implied, as long as you avoid the Ngons, you will be OK in most situations this day and age.
@codelyoko3632 ай бұрын
From what I understand, working with triangles while modeling can make the process a lot more difficult. Imagine how annoying it would be to do what this guy is doing but using triangles. It's true that triangles are better for games, but modeling programs will typically convert models into triangles through something called "triangulation" when you export them, so there isn't really any need to do it yourself.
@PrinceFlumphАй бұрын
So what exactly is going on here? He’s got the very highly detailed hand model, but he’s creating custom polygons for it…?
@3dmutinyАй бұрын
The highly detailed hand model is used as a reference to create custom low-poly polygons for the game. Low poly models are used in games because they require fewer resources to render, which ensures better performance and faster load times. These models simplify complex details, making the game run smoothly on various hardware while still appearing visually appealing, thanks to techniques like texture mapping and normal mapping, which add detail without increasing polygon count.

What is the point of retopology when you already have a model?
@staticbuilds76132 ай бұрын
You make it game ready or easier to animate. The model he had possibly contains anywhere from 100,000 - over 1 million polygons. Which makes it not suitable for games and most animations. You Retopologize to make thing work. Again it depends on the final platform the model is for
@DIABULUSKIRA2 ай бұрын
@staticbuilds7613 I wasn't thinking that way. But isn't it possible to reduce number of polygons some other way, without need to make it all over again? I have never done any human like models because i get lost in all of that. Hard surface modeling is my thing 😅
@staticbuilds76132 ай бұрын
@@DIABULUSKIRA Depends on the software. I have used auto reduced before and manually deleted subdivions but it not always as accurate. For animations and motion capture rigging you want more control and perfect topology. Once you get used to it the quad-draw tool can be a quick and relaxing process.
@DIABULUSKIRA2 ай бұрын
@staticbuilds7613 Could be. Character modeling, rigging, animation and topology is to much conplicated than anything else. At least for me. But i have seen some artist doing great job when creating characters, but they are not that good at some other modeling that i find much easier.
