You NEED to KNOW how your Lectric battery charges!

Understanding the charging curve or charging profile of your Lectric battery can be helpful in keeping your battery healthy. I monitored my Lectric XP 3.0 14 Ah (amp hour) battery every 30 minutes as it charged from a very low state of charge to full. When you're battery is fully discharged, completely empty, it is important to understand how quickly it charges up so you can know when you will be able to get back on the road. Understanding the charging curve of your battery and controller will also help you control your charging to make sure your battery is not left at a full state of charge or at a too low a charge for an extended period of time.

Good info. I did this test @15 min increments after a return grocery trip throttled me up every hill, had to walk it up every hill! I now know charging timing speeds and have used a Kasa KP115 charger to properly time charging to the proper percentage. *Even better* I recently bought a home assistant (HA) green device and redid the test, so I know what percentage charge correlates with wattage use every 15min, so I now have it turn off automatically at 80% since this triples battery longevity if I mostly charge to that … if a long trip is planned (rare) I charge to 100% HA give great charging graphs! I have the xp 3.0 extended battery.

Great use of the HA device! I use a more basic timer control but your approach leaves little room for error.

Home assistant worth the cost as charging to 80% most of the time makes my $500 battery last 3x longer before I’ll need a new one! I charge only if I’m planning to use the battery within a couple days. Almost always do since I use it for errands and commuting.

I've owned a Lectric XP 3.0 for about 4 months, and I've put over 600 miles on it. I have found 43 volts. The battery is about empty. I've recently purchased another XP 3.0, only this time with a long-range battery. I'd like to know in advance how many volts is equal to empty on my new xp 3.0. Thanks in advance for your help.

Lectric told me for storage, if unused for a week or more, 75% is what they advise.

75% is certainly reasonable especially since the voltage will drop over time. I just wouldn't go above 80% or below 50%.

Lectric were very specific that 75% specifically is the proper number for storage … I’ll have to clarify with them in May as I have hand surgery scheduled … how often to check it and top it up while not using it.

Just wondering why doesnt anyone make a smart charger that you could set for 75%-100% charge that would shut itself off after it reaches the set level?

BTW Sir, just got my PWR free upgrade for my XP 3.0. after searching on the net, it seemed that the upgrades was already available since Dec 3, 2023 but it was not publicized

Yes that's right. You can see the voltage of the battery right on the display.

You have to stop the charging then turn the bike on. At least that’s what I did on my initial test. Later using home assistant and the Kasa kp115 I see real time charger data, but not the voltage of the battery. I had previously written down the wattage the battery was pulling every 15 minutes just before I unplugged it to check the battery voltage. So know what wattage correlates with the battery voltage now.

Sir, would it ve possible to use an LifePO4 48v (58.4V full charge, 51.2V label) on the XP 3.0? 100AH is cheaper, safer and faster to charge. thank you!

The controller and charger would likely work fine with a different a lithium iron phosphate chemistry. The trickier part might be to connect it to the existing connector and to fit it inside the frame.

I tested my battery with a meter after charging and it reads 50 volts. When I connect the battery to the bike the screen reads 54.6 volts. I've done this several times and I get the same readings. Very weird. I'm trying to figure this out with lectric but they seem to be sending me in circles.
