Y'all, you will be fine! Don't stress about your tryout. I recently tried out for a national team where only 6 people get on a team out of like 150 people there and I made it! I've only been playing volleyball for about 5 months and some people there have been playing for years. I didn't think I would make it at all. But I did! This shows that anything is possible. hey im a sophomore so i decided to drop in to give my lil 2 piece:) my advice is to make an impression !! you can do this by being loud on the court, hustling, encouraging others on & off the court, & talking to the coaches. while skill is considered in tryouts, your character makes all the difference ! go out there & have fun. try not to let your jitters get to you. focus on the play at hand & youll be just fine

@@nashiyamorant4219 on what to wear, here are some tips: 1) current club shirt if you have it 2) dont wear a tank top 3) bright colors are good to be noticable amongst everyone 4) you can wear a headband for everyday of the tryout so the coach can think "oh theres that headband girl again.." 5) minimal jewelry. earrings are fine, but nothing dangling. as for necklaces, safe to just not wear at tryouts to be safe what to bring: 1) good sized water bottle. you dont want to waste time refilling your jug 2) electrolyte drink(s) in your bag *helps refuel your body, v important‼* 3) extra pins, marker, & note in case your tag falls off. typically the coaches will supply these, but i experienced an accident at my freshmen tryouts so best to be careful 4) quick snacks (ex: granola bars). youll probably only have a second to take a bite so make it quick 5) whatever else you like to bring in your volleyball bag

i play volleyball for a couple years now and i still cant seem to get my overhand serve over the net. ive got a really good toss and its perfect for where i hit the ball, but when the ball goes over it slides back down the net and i thing it has to do with how much force i put into the ball. ive watched other people serve a ball and they always hit the ball very fast so i tried speeding up how fast my hand comes in contact with the ball, and nothing works. its like this ball dont like me or sumin. any tips?

Hi!! I've been playing volleyball since I was 8 (I am now going to be in the 9th grade) and I made the high school varsity team as a freshman. I've been playing club for a while (my sisters have played volleyball for a long time too) and I used to struggle with this a lot. My best advice is to rethink your toss. If you want to make sure you have a fast swing, toss your ball a little bit lower (you want to hit the ball when it is on its way up not when it is dropping down). When you toss lower it forces your arm to swing a lot faster. With your serving/hitting arm; make sure to keep your wrist by your ear and your elbow back in almost like a bow and arrow position, that way when you swing you are using more of that arm momentum to gain more force (but make sure to keep your wrist stiff!!). It could also have to do with your step. Most coaches say to pretend that your non dominant hand (the hand you throw the ball up with to serve for you to hit with your dominant hand) is connected to your left (for right handed people) foot, and as you toss your foot steps forward in sync (make sure to toss in front of you and on the side of your hitting shoulder). For me I can do that if I really wanted to, but personally it is easier for me to have a two step approach that way it keeps your momentum going. It doesn't really matter what foot starts out in front of the other as long as the first step is with your right foot (I am right handed), and then as you step into your left foot you toss and swing. Once you master that you can move onto things like a float serve and even a jump serve or topspin, but serving takes energy time and effort so be patient.

@@savandtay6818 ALWAYS call the ball (say something “mine” or “got it”) and ALWAYS hustle to get it even if you don’t get a great pass, coaches will know that you’re at least trying to keep the ball up. Basically just don’t let the ball drop in front of you. Another thing that coaches are looking for is COACHBLE players. This means people that can take in advice and quickly apply it. So if you get corrections from a coach, use their advice so you won’t keep making the same mistakes :D I don’t want to make u read too much so lastly, cheer other people on, always stay positive and I also recommend watching professional/collegiate games so u can see their habits!

Lmao i got tryouts tmmrw and still can only get a serve over after like 10 tries 🤡. I got open gym today with my dad so ill prob practice for an ideal 3 hrs and see what gets me the most serves over. I’m 5’2 and only decided to start playing 2 weeks ago and I’m a sophomore so idk if I’m allowed on freshman team but Ima try my best and have fun. Alr day 1: My hamstring pain from last week, after failing a dive. got worse and had the trainer like assess me and got me iced. It was very fun but I also felt my toe tear again and it burned. Had my ankles wrapped so thankfully my shoes didn’t cut my ankles. I played better than in camp but seeing all the skill I probably wont make it. But despite that I will still try my best and believe I’ll make the team. Not a single serve went over :(. Got 7’8 on my running approach for vertical test but don’t remember what I got for standing jump. I got one hand receives, got a foot receive, and a 2 fingers receive 🎊

I’m a freshman but go to a very small school, like 90 kids in the whole high school, but our volleyball program has been in the top three every year. This years seniors specifically are a super tight group that have worked super hard for the past three years to hopefully win the title this year. The whole summer I came to every practice and now I’m starting right side/middle for varsity and setter/middle/outside for JV! It’s been great and a hugeee tip is to just show up to practice. There was another girl who many expected to get the last varsity spot but she didn’t come to summer practices for the last month and now has Covid from all her travels. It had helped me bond with everyone and improve to the point of starting varsity in a veryyy competitive program!

hey im a sophomore so i decided to drop in to give my lil 2 piece:) my advice is to make an impression !! you can do this by being loud on the court, hustling, encouraging others on & off the court, & talking to the coaches. while skill is considered in tryouts, your character makes all the difference ! go out there & have fun. try not to let your jitters get to you. focus on the play at hand & youll be just fine

I have never played v ball , but ALL of my siblings have played sports like this and so I am trying out in a few weeks and I have not practiced and I do not even have a ball but I practice the positions and I am gonna go get my ball and shoes to play so yeah lol , her videos help a lot! And remember you can do this! 😊
