Cleansing in the morning is “controversial” cause it really depends on your lifestyle and your skin. Where i live it’s hot year round and my skin is very sensitive and acne prone. I’ve started using spf 30 daily this summer (rather than just when I’m at the beach) and I’ve noticed that a lot of my lingering dark spots have faded away. Although if you’ve got oily skin already might take a bit of trial and error to find something that won’t break you out even more lol

As someone who goes up and down in income through out the years, I’m happy you consider how to make things slightly more budget friendly. And that you also let your audience know that a lot of skincare treatments are luxury and aren’t necessary. I love James, I really do. KZbin would have less dignity without him. He's one of the few creators with integrity. But I have been wondering whether all this skincare chatter is starting to cloud reality, for him and us. At some stage we have to calm down and admit that our skin is something that has evolved with us, across pre-human species - and it is not tissue paper. Being generally gentle with it, being critical of the ingredients we plonk on it - are all common sense. But beyond that, there's a line. Honestly, if basic activities like correctly wetting and drying and cleaning our skin were this important, we would have died out hundreds of thousands of years ago. I know self care is fun and relaxing, but too much of this thinking - it just creates anxiety.
@seanmaher29874 жыл бұрын
Saying that - I totally love the skincare ritual and get it all. I adore thinking about the actives, what they do and what plays with each other. I guess I just protest a little when it comes to the idea that we are screwing up when we don't wash just right. I'm just trying to calm it down a level.

@@seanmaher2987 recently i've realised that if you're not worried about having perfectly healthy and clear skin, you can just pick and choose what you want to do for your skin. as long as you avoid skin cancer/melanoma haha
@JamesWelsh4 жыл бұрын
Hey!! Yeah I partly agree for sure!! Our skin is amazingly clever. It will do what it needs to do if we just use the very basics. And of course we know a lot more about skin cancer and sun protection so sunscreen is important. But i like to focus on products that can take your skin that step further, if that’s what you want. These little tips and tricks aren’t important if you just want basic skincare. I always hear derms compare it to going to the gym. You can eat healthy and exercise a few times a day and be healthy and you’ll live a perfectly healthy life giving your body the basics to survive. But if you want to go that step further, you can weight train, you can train for marathons, you can take supplements and tone up your body. It’s all personal preference but of course not at all necessary ☺️

Hello James! Love all your videos. I never do any cleansing in the morning. My skin is dry, so I just wash it with the water. I love cold water though, it's very refreshing in the morning. The next thing which is even more refreshing is an ice cube (wrapped in a paper tissue) of pure organic green tea. Then I put my vit C ampoule from Vichy, followed with the Ordinary Buffet, Avene skin recovery cream (very soothing for my sensitive skin!) and then the Ordinary Rose hip seed oil. Then I do my skin yoga and massage my skin for a while. If I am going out, I am using my SPF. That's my morning routine! 👸

In the evening, I prefer to use microfiber cloths (knockoff Makeup Eraser) for a “rough” first cleanse in my “triple” cleansing process. That way I feel less icky... because I won’t be smearing as much makeup around my face, during the oil/balm cleansing step. (I use a separate small round cloth for eye makeup, especially when I’m wearing more mascara and or shimmery or glittery eyeshadow.) Just wet the cloth with lukewarm water or apply a bit of gentle micellar water and gently swipe across. While that dries down, I use a bit of soap (or a foaming facial cleanser) to wash out the cloth and then hang it to dry. That way I can reuse it, the next evening. (I reuse for up to 3 days and then toss into the washing.) Then I go in with an oil or balm cleanser, for a while minute... followed by a lightly foaming cleanser.

Yea summer for me, is a definite morning cleanse, both because maybe of the temperature I get extra oily, but also from my diet, with partying with better weather, and general vacation times, I always get so much oiler based on the food I eat, vs winter is much more stay at home and simple eating (ok besides the holidays :P ) but yea the breakouts during summer are so finiky, one day missing some of that makeup, and boom, breakout, or even a weekend without makeup and not enough cleansing, boom. ah well, eventually I'll get my diet sorted, because for me, that defines how your skin is over almost everything else. Specifically for me: dairy. if i cut out all dairy, my oilyness and breakouts go WAY down, vs using all the miracle products ever invented.
