I know this is a little off topic, but might I point out how great the storymode is? At first, I thought it’d just be some basic levels with a cookie-cutter design. But I was completely wrong. Most of the levels showed me brilliant concepts like riding thwomps and cranes grabbing bullet bills & items. And you can even unlock extra items that you can use for your own levels. Nintendo really did go above and beyond!

I must of racked up 100s of hours in the original SMM without making a single damn level, and I am already en route to do the same with SMM2. Hint: The Story Mode is fantastic, but beyond that, you should go to Course World, go to Popular Courses, go down the list and just have fun. The curation in SMM2 is way better than the original and you'll see some of the most creative ideas making full use of this incredibly robust level creation software. The sheer creativity puts other traditional 2D Mario games to shame, actually.
@duffman185 жыл бұрын
How does the curating work? I wish I could get people to play my levels. Not got a single one on the 4 levels I've uploaded. It's really disheartening and puts me off making more levels. I feel like I've missed an option to tick that turns the levels from private to public or something dumb like that
@chaoticcranium5 жыл бұрын
duffman18 No idea about the details behind the algorithms Nintendo is using for curation, sorry. I only observe that the popular levels are almost all really clever and engaging levels to play in SMM2 with a variety of difficulties, whereas in the original it was dominated by music and automatic levels (which are fun, don't get me wrong - but not particularly engaging) with very high clear rates. I would suggest advertising your levels on the SMM reddit, social media, make YT videos, etc. to get more views, I guess. Don't know too much since I don't really make or share levels. Unfortunately the sharing aspect hasn't really improved at all with the sequel, we still have to put in these stupid level codes. The original had Super Mario Maker Bookmark which let you send links online and bookmark levels for future use. Still obtrusive, but it helped. Would be good if they made that an app for the sequel.
@mcShmups5 жыл бұрын
Man I've just browsed the popular section of fan made levels and let me just say we have some creative human beings living amongst us. I could spend hours and hours playing fan made quality levels. And then with story mode this game is the most value for your money yet on the Nintendo switch.

Of course Nintendo could not have make levels made by players... Do you even know how much BS and trolls and stupid things people put in their levels, like these 10 midairs levels, enemy spams or one screen puzzle in SMM1 ? That would be stupid to release a mainline Mario game with players levels. Nintendo's levels are fair, with great level design and not trolling BS.

I'm kinda upset that Mii customisation thing isn't something you can just do for your Mii in general. Granted, you would need some kinda online player hub where you could control your Mii, and/or games where you play as your Mii exclusively, but it would be nice to have that kinda Mii customisation. Maybe in Mario Kart 8 instead of using any Mii racing costumes you could select "regular outfit" that would let you use your Mii's clothes you put on it or something.

Would be cool if you could make and full game with an overworld. EDIT: Called it...
@giannistek15 жыл бұрын
I think that's too much for most people (note: people are lazy, get distracted, don't want longdreaded stuff, most people want to make a quick level or a quick playthrough) so it would only appeal to like a low percentage of people. Especially at launch. Most people by now have made 0-2 levels I would assume. I have made one level myself. An overworld has at least like 4 levels. And I think people make all kinds of different levels more often so it wouldnt fit all well together in the same overworld. Like making a similar level (in terms of gameplay and/or length would be boring). + There are tons of other people who make levels, there's just no time to play one overworld of one person. However if you make it like everyone's levels in one overworld it might be fun, but that's basically SMM1's easy/normal/expert/super expert mode.
@OrganicGreens5 жыл бұрын
@@giannistek1 I disagree. I've stayed away from mario maker because it feels pointless just completing levels with no sense of progression. And you could easily make a cohesive overworld with levels that progress in a sensible and fun way. There are already mario rom hacks with overworlds and levels that are good so it's definitely possible. And more than enough people would make full campain's. It would be cool if they could include the different styles of overworld as well like super mario style and mario 3 etc as well..

I never played the original Mario Maker, so one thing I thought existed, but apparently do not, is a way to combine different levels to one "Mario Game". It would be really cool if one could search through Mario games where people have made and/or handpicked great levels to form its own mini-game. Right now there's the Endless Challenge, but the levels are random so you do not have consistent quality. This could also encourage makers to also make sane levels and not only totally crazy ones.

I’m one of those people that got this game just to play the random levels, and not the impossible ones either. This game does that just fine :) I can’t wait for online multiplayer!!!

It's Mario Maker on the a console that is actually worth buying. Even a straight port would've been sufficient to get Mario Maker out to way more people, but the changes they made also give us a ton of new level concepts. Overall it's great imo.

Then just play the story mode or have fun with other people’s courses. Or better yet for making the course, put a little features on the course that Nintendo built for you already and then play your own level. I love doing that lol

That's why Stylus is a must have if you want to create levels. You can buy non official nintendo stylus one in amazon for like 10 usd.

I gotta speak up on comparing the netcode of Mario Battle Royale to this. It is entirely different like comparing apples and oranges. In MBR there is no player collision or interaction at all, nothing anyone does affects anyone else, so if someone's connection is bad they just show you their position whenever they can. The stage environment is the only thing that matters and when someone affects that by hitting a shell or grabbing a powerup MBR updates the stage on your end but they have a lot more time to do it, in a race condition for an item they can just let your client end decide if you got it, even if this results in two people getting it. Those two people don't interact so it doesn't matter. In SMM2 all player positions and collisions are vital, the game can't make a decision about what happened until it gets an update freon every player or else very odd inconsistencies will occur. So you are completely at the mercy of whoever has the worst connection. In a game like Mario Kart where people are generally far apart you can just use some predictions based on vector and fudge it, but in a platformer where people are colliding constantly and often changing direction entirely that won't cut it. What Nintendo cab improve here is just making sure if you have a good connection you are paired with other people with good connections, like in Tennis Aces, and consign bad connections to hellworld.

I was never all that big the 2D Super Mario games and I've been almost addicted to this. The multiplayer levels are extremely disappointing since they're usually unplayable with the lag, but oh well. I uploaded 2 levels but they don't have any plays, so I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong when uploading. Kind of hurts the motivation to make more if I know they won't see any light. Also if anyone is good at making on/off switch speedrun levels send them my way ty.

I love the game. The story mode provides inspiration on how to create challenging and interesting levels and even if you aren’t a “maker” you can be the one who plays the “makers’ “ levels.
