"Just One Person" is a tear-jerker of a song, especially during Jim Henson's funeral. Funny how Peanuts and The Muppets have something in common.

I honestly hate that song for that specific reason. I will forever associate it with the death of Jim Henson, and will instantly put me in a very sad mood. For the longest time, I couldn't watch the memorial special the SECOND they pull out the box of letters. Fozzie's reaction to the letter saying that Jim passed didn't exactly kill my childhood, but it wounded it immensely.

Seeing Snoopy sing if someone should believe in me has gotten me sad because Snoopy is one of my favorite cartoon characters of all time and I rarely have ANY self confidence in any capacity. So JUST seeing Snoopy indirectly singing about believing in me really hit me hard. Plus, Snoopy is the ONLY fictional character in history with a more beautiful laugh than Bluey. Fuck, I need to lie down.

Yay, my request! Though I feel like I have the opposite opinion on Poor Sweet Baby. I felt it was really sweet, and the ending of it was definitely in character for Patty. Like she has all these pent up emotions but her anxiety gets the better of her at the end of it. To me it doesn't come off as mean-spirited as much as "Aw man PP, you almost had this."

FUN FACT: Skip Hinnant, the original off-Broadway actor for Schroeder on You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, was also the voice actor for Fritz the Cat. EDIT: Also, the voice of Charlie Brown in the original concept album was Orson Bean, the voice of Bilbo Baggins in Rankin/Bass's The Hobbit and Frodo Baggins in The Return of the King.

Oh god, the absolute tears that were shed as soon as Just One Person started. Like Greg, I experienced the song first as a connection to The Muppets, but the context of Larry being hired by Jim Henson because he loved that song in particular never breaks me, especially using the memorial service clip. Good on ya.

The vhs tape for this special just showed up at my home one day. After getting over the initial shock of Leonardo speaking as Snoopy, it somehow became a mainstay in mine and my younger brothers' watching habits for years. I hadn't heard some of these songs for years, and this vid took me down memory lane. Thank you.

My dad used to record as many Peanuts specials as he could when I was little, including this one. I had a recording of the premiere broadcast on CBS. I probably watched it just as many times as I watched the Christmas and Halloween specials. Knowing What I Know Now STILL randomly pops into my head, lol, but Just One Person was always my favorite. I didn't hear any of the Muppet versions until later; I cried my eyes out at the version they sang for Jim Henson.

Of all the Peanuts specials still not on at least DVD, this is easily the most deserving of one. I know it's going to be quite a while before we get to Nick's turn with the franchise, but I have complete faith it's going to be as good and in-depth on the whole franchise as your Looney Tunes and Cartoon Kablooey episodes were! Could also see your future Gumby episode being similar as well. Looking forward to it and until then, keep up the good work! I myself as a 1990s kid grew up watching Peanuts on The Disney Channel, and of course CBS with the holiday themed mainstays (will NEVER associate them with ABC TBH!); there was a phase of my childhood where I had so much of their merchandise. In the meantime, The Hick Critic has reviewed every single special up to the present day in good detail for those interested.

My grandma had the live action "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" album. I remember her putting it on one day for me and I was both confused as to why nobody sounded like their normal selves/Snoopy was talking and thus very quickly being bored by it. I think I saw the animated Snoopy one when it first aired but had forgot all about it until now. Put me down as yet another who never knew that song wasn't a Muppet's original. In fact I thought they had wrote it just for the tribute/funeral.

I didn't know that "Just One Person" came from Snoopy the Musical cause I only saw performed by the Muppets, Regardless of who sings it, it's a great song. Anyway, this reminds me how broadcast networks used to air animated specials every so often outside the holidays. It's something they really do as much anymore, maybe because animation is too expensive, but it's something I miss.

Agh, god, you mentioning how unsettling adults in costumes playing the Peanuts characters can be gave me flashbacks to when the Today Show hosts did that for one of their Halloween shows. I’ll say this much for all those stage productions of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” and “Snoopy the Musical”, I’m fairly certain none of them were ever as bad as *that.*

While I did see a little of You're On Nickelodeon Charlie Brown, this is not where I first saw this special. I first saw this on video. My old video rental store had a few Peanuts specials on tape and I remember renting some, including this one. Snoopy has always been one of my favorites and to hear that they did a musical all about him was something for me. This is an amazing special and instantly a favorite. Also Just One Person is one of my favorite songs and I enjoy listening to it no matter who's singing it, ESPECIALLY The Muppets.

I love Peanuts and Snoopy has always been my favorite, so I remember watching this musical quite a bit. I don't think I saw it on Nickelodeon, but I have a VHS tape. I didn't know that Cam Clark liked the role so much. That makes me wish that he could have had more time voicing the character. That talking Snoopy doll is so cute and I wish I could have found one. Even though I'm also a big fan of the Muppets, I forgot that both franchises have "Just One Person". I have some nostalgic fondness for most of the songs in this musical. It's a shame that it hasn't had a DVD release or been available on streaming. Hopefully that can change in the future.

I remember finding this special on VHS at either Block Buster or Hollywood Video as a kid and it instantly became a favorite of mine. My favorite bit has got to be "The Great Writer" not only is the song absolutely fun to listen to as we finally get to hear Snoopy's great (and completely nonsensical) novel pitch, but the animation is certainly more full (and even a bit rubber hosey at points). It's a shame that for some reason it's never gotten a release on DVD, Blu-Ray or streaming (maybe there's some music rights issue, I have no clue). I knew about the "Just One Person" connection right before this video, but I had no idea that Larry Grossman ended up as a musical consultant for The Muppet Show and that "8 Little Notes" was originally intended for Snoopy. That legit surprised me.

I wish this special might end up on Apple TV+ anytime soon along with more “Peanuts” TV specials from the 1970’s and 1980’s. “Snoopy: The Musical” also had a VHS release in the mid 1990’s by Paramount.

Snoopy was my fav Peanuts character next towards the little red haired girl, ya know I’m actually surprised that from the Bill Melendez and Charles Shultz cartoons she didn’t have a speaking voice in the animated specials, until The Peanuts Movie which came out around 2015. Also Btw, my fav song from Snoopy The Musical was actually “The Great Writer.” I actually felt kinda bad when the editors couldn’t publish his story, although it was kind of an out-of-place scripture story for an upcoming film production.

I've never seen the Peanuts cartoons (I guess they never came out in the UK? Or weren't repeated much?), but I've read a lot of the strip, and have several of the compilation books. How do you even make an adaptation of the strip without giving Snoopy a voice? I guess by not adapting the comics where he's the main feature? Or putting his words into other characters' mouths? Garfield seemed to manage just fine with voicing the titular character, after all, and he also "speaks" in thoughts.

You know what musical I always hated? Annie. Partially because I find every song over the top, saccharine, sappy, and obnoxious, but partially because of the Peanuts music duology. Putting aside a bias that I find Peanuts the superior, more lovable strip, the Peanuts musicals manage to capture exactly what makes this franchise great. True to character songs that have those great little vignettes that give us the same hopeful melancholy that the strip is known for. Linus slowly slipping into disbelief when it's more and more obvious The Great Pumpkin isn't coming, Snoopy being the escapism and joy of the strip, the various ways the gang takes on a book report. None of it's that lame mustache twirling villain snarling about how bad they are or annoyingly hyper optimistic earworm junk. Compare "Happiness is" and "Just one Person" to "Tomorrow." The Peanuts songs are hopeful with just a hint of bittersweet wistfulness, the Annie one being plastic sentimental sap.

The part at 5:45 where Snoopy is superimposed over sepia-toned live action footage caught me off guard! Though I doubt it's the intent it reminds me of those gags in SpongeBob cartoons where live action elements show up out of the blue. I heard about this musical a few years before and was a bit unsure about the concept of Snoopy having an audible voice on screen, but Cam Clarke's performance as I'm hearing it now is splendid. With zany musical theater adaptations of works from other media types a fairly new major interest of mine, I gotta be sure to check this out!
