Jesus knew Peter would deny Him and when he would do it. There was nothing Peter could do to change that in spite of Jesus revealing to him what he would do. There is no free will.

Peter was nit programmed to do or not do. He had a free will. Jesus simply looked into the future and saw what Peter would choose. He then told Peter what he had seen

Then why did it grieve Peter? If you're saying God forced Peter to lie, I think you got confused somewhere along your line of thinking.

@Jenaf but Peter still had no power to change what Jesus said he would choose. That revelation did not empower Peter to make a different choice to override Jesus' foreknowledge. It would be like if God told you that you would choose to eat a ham sandwich for lunch today at 2pm you knowing that would not alter what you are going to do. Jesus never gave Peter any indication that he could change course and not deny Him. He knew Peter would do that and He knew Peter would repent later.
