Almost through the video and Greg brings up great points here. My defense for my first year not gaining as much as my second is as follows. I had no idea what I was doing in the gym the first year, I ate in a deficit, low carb, lots of cardio. Second year (late 16-late 17 years old) I went through a huge bulk eating probably around 3500-4500 calories a day and trained 2 hours a day every single day and made lifting the only priority in my life. From 18-19 years old I was never in a gaining phase if any of you have seen my life story video I literally had crippling anxiety and depression that made it hard for me to do literally anything I had to try and force feed without throwing up but God saved me from that.. later on had a short 6 month bulk before turning 20 from fall of 2019 to spring of 2020 then since then I’ve been relatively lean not going through a legit bulk. As of now I’m getting ready for this show naturally to see how I stand against NPC competitors and to see if I enjoy the process of competing. After this show I plan on going through a slow lean bulk for 6-8 months focusing on nutrition and training over social media for the first time. I plan on staying natural for now and depending on how I do this show I might look towards possibly hopping on which I would be 100% transparent about. And I think whenever I do hop on everyone will see how much I gain from being natural and then maybe people will believe me haha. Love you Greg keep up the good work. I know you think I took stuff before and if there’s a way to prove it I would love too. Maybe whenever we collaborate in Canada we can make some videos on that. Still waiting on that cookbook code Alex 🔥

Loved this video, and your point about gaining weight from 17 to 18 as opposed to 16-17 is definitely true to a point. I'm 20 now but the most weight gain I had was from 17-18. I think that the male body really starts to mature once you start nearing that 18 mark. At least mine did. As a freshman (15) I weighed like 125, then put on 5 pounds as a sophomore (16), then 5 more as a junior, and then 10 as a senior. I'm just now starting to work out regularly, keeping a good schedule and eating well has gained me 7 pounds since like December. So I see your point for sure but I think if you go through a bulk, which I never did, I think it probably isn't uncommon to put on that much weight if you have the genetics for it.

Where you really notice is your strength lose. At my peak,I was throwing up 90lb dumbbells on flat bench,when I was off I was finishing with 70lb dumbbells. That part messes with your head a lot too.

I think Greg makes some good points and it’s definitely possible Alex isn’t natty. One point that may justify the +45 lbs in the second year was a growth spurt because it looks like he got taller. As for getting leaner on a bulk when he was 19 that seems unlikely to have been natural.

I tend to disagree with you Greg on the year 1 theory. I agree that newbie gains are very real and you are going to put on a lot of muscle that first year but I think it is very possible and more likely to gain more quality tissue in the next two years. Most lifters in their first year don’t even know how to train or eat properly. This usually isn’t realized until the second year at the earliest and that’s when I think quality tissue gains begin. And then you can factor in age. A kid who starts lifting at 15 is probably going to see a lot more progress at 17-18 when testosterone is peaking and they are in later stages of puberty. I personally found this was the case for myself. Once I learned how to train properly and dialed in nutrition better, I made significantly more progress. Consistency was a huge factor as well.

After watching that progress I agree with Greg. There’s no way he’s been natural his whole life.

I feel like i was still in that puberty era testosterone frenzy until I was 21. After that the gains fell significantly even on deployments with nothing to do but eat and work out in off time.

Yea but the sus part it was mostly muscle and not fat Usually when naturals bulk hard it’s mostly fat and then they cut hard and lose the fat and muscle . Like greg says naturals when they cut usually look small end up 145lbs 160lb especially if u under 6ft. Alex went on a cut and got that 3d look and held on to muscle land at 175lbs. Greg, I was 18, 5’3 116 pounds in March 2020. Since then I’ve been on a perma bulk. Doing weighted calisthenics and weight training and bw calisthenics as well as wrestling. Currently I’ve grown to 5’5 and 154 pounds. I’m turning 21 this month. I started weight training when I was 14. I just never took eating seriously enough until the start of quarantine. At 116 I was 5% body fat at the end of my senior season. I’m currently 11%. Also I’ve gone from 145-154 in the mornings in the last 4 months because I’ve been eating an absurd amount of food every day. My pops says this is a type of growth spurt from when you go from teenage boy to young man. My family is a bunch of late bloomers. I plan to continue bulking until I’m around 170 and cut down to about 9/10% bf around 155 or so. Do you think my transformation sounds natty or is it sus

I don't think he went on anything to have that weight gain in year 2. His training and nutrition were probably suboptimal in year 1. The affects of puberty also could cause weight gain that wouldn't increase body fat. This could be things like height and bone density. With that said he did gain a decent amount of body fat and it is the heaviest he's ever been
@Dannybolio2 жыл бұрын
@Liberty Prime Yes, it's a possible explanation for the later weight gain. Realistically, it is probably due to sub optimization of training and nutrition. However, it's all speculative so I wanted to give a few other reasons

@valhalla35662 жыл бұрын
That's the thing about trying to figure out if someone is natty or not; unless you know what to look for, you're not going to really know unless they tell you or you find some hard evidence. It also kinda sucks being suspected of being on PEDs because, as he brought up in the video, it CAN feel like your actual hard work is being discredited. I get asked all the time if I've cycled or if I'm on anything. And there have been SEVERAL times people have either called me a liar, or have actually gotten upset with me. So when I see a guy like Alex, I'm of two different mindsets: If he IS natural, I definitely feel for him being scrutinized by people who don't believe he is. Having your years of hard work and dedication being boiled down to something you're not doing and discredited is a frustrating feeling a lot of times. On the other hand, if he was lying, I'd be extremely pissed off because, in this day and age, people shouldn't really care as is. I've been lifting for twice as long as he has, and I'd KILL to have his physique and build. So if he got that naturally, I'd have nothing but respect for him. But, if he's lying about how he got there, then I'd just be disappointed and frustrated, not because he's on anything, but because he lied, and that lie has made me question and stress over what I'm probably doing wrong, myself.

When I see coach Greg say they have good genetics when they are like 16 and stuff I'm like 😭 cus I feel I had wasted potential, hopefully once I finish bulking and I cut I'll see some of the hard work has pay off I started out 130 as a freshman only doing calisthenics and basketball in highschool at 6'0 so very skinny currently at 21 I'm 6'3 and 210 bodyweight but I'm higher in body fat since I didn't train much and recently was finally able to go on a bulk and work out consistently. My goal is 215-220 body weight stay there for a while and once this summer comes cut down to 200 or even 190 just to see how much I have built this year that I've been lifting. If I had to guess imma currently like 20 - 25% body fat I'd like to get to 15ish in the summer to have a 6 pack when not flexing again. It's hard man sometimes you still feel small until you see how far you've come and then other times you wonder if you've gone too far and if you should just cut. Hopefully everything works out and best of luck in your fitness journey to anyone who reads this. At the end of the day the only thing that matters is being the best and healthiest version of ourselves we can be 💪🏽
