Honestly this is nowhere near as complicated as a lot of other optimal damage strategies the game has had. Try looking at all the shit that's involved with the Prismatic Hunter grapple melee boss DPS strat. THAT is fucking complicated as hell and requires like 8 different buff sources stacking if not more. You literally use tether on the boss AND adds to trigger stylish executioner and make you invis on a delay after shooting a 1-2 punch shotgun at the boss and then grappling. Needing to gain invis in the split second during grapple before you use the grapple melee, off of shared damage from the shotgun shot on the boss through tether killing an add. And of course people are losing their minds because this lets Hunter do some absolutely bullshit 2-3mil damage in a single melee BUT it's absolutely insane to set up and only works on a VERY limited number of specific bosses. Hell some of the quickswap DPS strats in general are considerably more complicated. This one isn't even tight on timing like those are. Let alone the quickswap strats that you needed to mash button combos for to animation cancel shit.

By the way for people wondering, still hunt is only viable with celestial. If you use it at base it does very similar damage to cloud strike and Izzy, but it also has an animation which takes away from your DPS. Izzy all you have to do is consume ammo, cloud strike holds way more in reserves than still hunt and all you have to do is land three precision shots and it has triple tap. They just need to start giving more ranged DPS options to the other classes

Euphony (raid special linear) is a good alternative to goldy stillhunt hunter, only problem is on titan is you will build up stacks slower than warlock due to warlock's access to needlestorm and threadling grenades on prismatic.

You have to keep in mind that we have surges in raids and dungeons now. Still Hunt is the best option for Solar Surge still, unless you have Euphony and it's also strand surge. Izanagi's unfortunately kind of just sucks due to being Kinetic and being unable to get the +25% bonus at all due to the lack of Overcharged Weapons modifier in these activities. That on top of the loss of 15% bonus damage to bosses on Kinetic weapons is a BIG blow to it's viability in this content. Cloud Strike however is still a great option particularly for Arc Surge...which otherwise frankly doesn't have a lot of good options. It is however worth noting that Cloud Strike can be slightly awkward with the constant need to dodge during the Witness fight. You really don't want to be locked in on landing the 3 precision shots in a row if it's going to get you killed. That's the really strong part of Still Hunt; you just need 6 precision shots, the timing between those shots doesn't matter.

Last night had a guy rocking basically this build, some little differences, but after 2 damage phases and wiping 3 or 4 times as one guy just wasn't getting the encounter, this guy was putting out 6.5 - 7m damage consistently, vs our 1.5 to about 2.5 using pretty meta damage loadout rotations pre-TFS. This combo is INSANELY OP and 100% it gets nerfed.

quick thing if your going to have a gally user please dont run explosive light as explosive light doesnt buff your gally projectiles either run surrounded bipod or continue to run bns and get a primary shot right before damage the time for bait and switch proc is you have 7 seconds to get a shot with your second gun then 7 more to get a shot with your third

Using this setup, i join a group of new lights trying to beat taniks for the first time, we wiped 15 times, but i didnt have a wipe where i did less than 2 million per damage phase, and then on the wipe we finally beat it, i was dead for the 3rd dmg phase and the entire final stand but still pulled 4.2 million, more than double anyone else

Two other damage opportunities: slight damage increase against frozen targets. Useful against champions. Weaken increases damage by 15% and can be applied with stylish executioner. While invis, melee a target to apply weaken, dodge to apply slow with winter's shroud, shuriken to get radiant and freeze, then pop off a golden gun. Hit nearly a million on Karl with a single golden gun with that combo.

fun fact: if you have radiant covered anyway (Acrobat's Dodge or the fragment or Well of Radiance or Song of Flame), might as well do Smoke Bomb instead. 15% weaken is a big deal! This is more or less the strat used by Saltagreppo and Obama Gaming to get a duo 2phase on this encounter. Additional note: if someone's on Div in your fireteam, have them put on Deterministic Chaos instead. It does more damage and has less of a requirement for continual fire, so they can throw in some regular sniper shots or whatever while keeping the weaken on the whole time--plus it works with that one artifact mod where Div doesn't, though you don't see people doing tons of void damage to this boss right now anyway.

You SHOULD have someone else on the team applying weaken on the boss in most situations, so you don't need to provide the weaken yourself with smoke bomb. The great thing about Withering Blade is it provides the dark debuff requirement while also having 2 charges to more consistently have radiant available. Granted with a properly placed Well this shouldn't be an issue anyway. Ideally Titan is a good source of weaken with their new super as it applies weaken on hit and frankly none of their other super options are usable against The Witness really. The big reason you see Salt using acrobats dodge and smoke bomb for weaken is because there's only 2 of them and both are running Hunter. Buffing each other with Acrobat's dodge helps them keep Radiant up longer and they have no alternative source of weaken outside of smoke bomb.

If you're a poor like me and don't have apex, you can still get work with a reconstruction/explosive light crux termination which can drop anywhere and still very potent. I'm currently running it with just one solar surge and arc holster but next play session I'll test if the arc holster is actually needful

Have you tried snare bomb isntead of withering blade and add in a duskfield grenade at the start? while transcendant your melee will recharge quick enough to be able to get yourself radiant when it runs out and you are debuffing the boss. Great video btw.

I was hitting 5 to 6 mil when I did it in one dps phase without apex. My build is like this but instead of the stasis melee I used strand for the melee refund and it severs so it’s a darkness debuff too. Using 3 solar weapon surges.

Maybe a dumb question, but what makes Withering Blades better than Threaded Spike? Is it just the two charges make it more consistent, or that Threaded Spike has some odd targeting thing my warlock brain doesn't know? I feel like the sever would be better than the slow for a debuff. Plus, it would let you add Facet of Dominance and Magnetic Grenade for weaken over Facet of Solitude's extra sever.

This might be a stupid question but can you damage the witness outside of the plate? Like if you start DPS on the plate and then get off is he just immune? I assume you cant but I havent tried it.

Wouldn't Song of Flame be better? Since Well isn't the play to survive anymore, Song of Flame might be better overall in terms of not screwing over the GG Hunters.

Song has trouble coming up in time for the second phase. Beyond that, 32 seconds of free radiant is really nice, and the regen/reduction on Well are sufficient to stand and tank beams (assuming you're FPS capped and have the relevant resist mods). Song of Flame is probably better in a lot of encounters but ironically enough Well remains the superior option for the final boss of the expansion that killed it.

What about threaded needle, or whatever the hunter strand melee is called, instead of withering blade? I like that one because in the neutral game, it tracks enemies much better and you get 3 instead of 2.

Wdym, you only get one threaded needle. You do get a nice refund if you pick it up, though. I think it's the superior option for neutral game, but the two charges of Withering blade allow you to use it more often during a DPS phase in which you'll be hitting a single target instead of multiple.

I never really understood why all eyes are on still hunt when euphony is also really good for a non heavy and a class lock for optimisation as well. There’s a damage difference sure but that doesn’t include class item synergy and surges at least for now

I have mixed feelings about build videos. On the one hand, it’s good to have something that people can quickly reference if they don’t want to take the time to figure out the max loadout. On the other hand, some people use it as a Bible of sorts and get angry at people who want to go into content with a build they’ve been crafting that might not be optimal. Obviously this isn’t Fallout’s fault, but I just wonder if the game might have a little more diversity of builds if people just had to figure out for themselves. Still, great video on a very fun combo.
