The Antigua makes me think of the yoke of a hard boil egg or an avocado sliced in half. It's probably the only color on a Fender I don't care for.
@clarkbabin97999 ай бұрын
Seriously ive been looking to get a new bike and it's not the same colors but in effect the lighter and darker colors are similarly situated on the model I'm looking at. But instead it's black and bronze. Maybe Fender could do these in such a combination of colors as well as other color combinations.

It's unbelievable how many unique Gibson and Epiphone guitars come out every week it seems. The market for expensive collectible guitars is so ripe right now, and Fender is doing nothing to capture market share. Whoever is in charge of new products at Fender really needs to think about what they're doing. This guitar is awesome, but if you think about it, Fender is so boring that a painted pickguard is incredible! That's how boring Fender is! I love Fender stratocasters telecasters everything. But try to find one with binding on the neck or on the headstock. Try to find anything but dot inlays. They just don't make them, or they're just so rare that I've never seen one. Fender's really missing this explosion of expensive collectible guitars. It's quite amazing actually. Total mismanagement. If Fender is a publicly traded company with stock on the New York stock exchange or NASDAQ, they probably could get sued by their shareholders for not maximizing shareholder profit. It's unbelievable.

They are discontinued, hard to find, and only in HSS, but the Schecter Banshee-6 Extreme came in both hardtail and Floyd Rose versions. The Floyd one got bad reviews because it’s a cheap import Floyd, but that was the only issue, the rest of the guitar was great, so you’d assume the hard tail version was perfect. (Don’t be put off by the “Extreme” in the name that just seems to refer to the figured maple veneer and fretboard inlays, and there was also a Banshee-7).

I have that same problem with Charvel they always come with a Floyd Rose, which I hate! Both of my Warmoth partscasters have hardtails and I love'em!! My Fender strat's trem is also blocked.

I quite liked the Antigua colour back in the day. I did actually buy a Telecaster in that finish with a maple neck/fretboard in early 1980 in Eaing, West London. Sadly it was stolen a few months later and (possibly even sadder) the rumour was that the theif refinished it in black before moving it on so that I wouldn't recognise it. I still had the receipt with serial number. Lesson learned but 44 years and 30 odd guitars later it still hurts to see a Fender with that finish. My only consolation is that I still have the Strat I bought the year before. Thinking back, the Strat cost £335 plus £40 for the traditional Fender hardcase in 1979 ( when I was 18). The Tele was £353 with a case a year later. I can't be certain how that equates in terms of value compared to modern offerings.
@zanzabar4ky79 ай бұрын
It looks like about the same value as an American vintage 2 according to the banknof england calculator if that original price included tax. If not an American ultra Lux.

It's an acquired taste. But with a Strat, or any guitar, it's the sound that matters. The color of the case interior is beyond awesome. When did the antigua finish start? My late brother had a Fender "history book" (of sorts) from 1978 or so, and they only listed two, a solid body Fender 12 and a Coronado semi hollow. Make sure you wrangle up another Fender for Friday...please.

My 89 USA stratocaster does not have the pocket cracks in the paint so it is not something all Fenders have. In 1988 I bought my first Fender strat, it was a made in Japan (not squire, it was labeled Fender) and that cracked over the whole length of the body including the wood in a few months. It was warranty but I lost trust and payed extra to get a new sunburst USA model. I still have it. It can use a fret-job but it still plays great so I leave it for now.

All Vintera models are made in mexico and the 3 bolt neck pocket is that way because it has a little set screw so you can set the neck angle easier. Most people prefer the 4 bolt for stability though.

Austin, thank you for echoing my own thoughts on the skunk stripe. Why have one on a guitar with an obviously attached fretboard? I can go even further; I have two Donner DST-400s. They both have laurel (therefore obviously not maple) fretboards, and there no way a skunk stripe is needed. One's black, and it doesn't have a skunk stripe. The GREEN one, OTOH, DOES! Once again, why? No clue -- but it looks cool.

One criticism is if you saw a guitar on reverb or anywhere else with those dremmel marks you'd most likely scooff at it and make an offhand remark about quility control .That being said i know your curious but does how deep the paint go on the pick guard really matter? I appreciate your extensive breakdowns but sometimes i think it can be excessive for no real reason.

The closer I look, the less it looks like a real one. I'd seen them advertised and thought I just might pull the trigger, but the price just knocked that idea on the head. I paid nearly 2 grand for the mim rocky strat and the thing plays like, well who am I kidding - it doesn't play at all, so there's just no way I'm doing it again. The colors are just wrong - similar, but wrong, and the qc issues are the final nail in the coffin on this one. I 'might' wait and pick up a mint used one for half the price, but honestly I probably won't bother. This should be 899, not 1599, and if it were I would have bought one, but no, just no.

I wished they did the AVII 1954 Strat as a hardtail. Strats from this era had loose neck pockets and very thick paint. This reissue appears to not have these issues. Great!
