There is perhaps no insect on Earth as infamous as the bullet ant, and with all of the myths and stories that surround these animals it’s not hard to see why. It’s often said that bullet ants are highly aggressive and will actively try to sting anything that gets too close, and what’s worse, their sting is allegedly so painful that it feels like being shot by a gun. But do they really deserve this fearsome reputation, or is there more to these incredible insects than we give them credit for? Our mission today is to find out exactly that, but to do so we’ll have to put ourselves, and these ants, to the ultimate test. I hope you’re ready, because on this adventure we may have gotten more than we bargained for.
We’d like to extend a massive thank you to Jack ‪@JacksWorldofWildlife‬ for inviting us to join him for this sting test and sharing his footage with us. Believe it or not this was actually a lifelong dream for us, and we couldn’t have asked for a better partner to share this experience with. Jack is an exceptional wildlife educator who makes some of the highest quality wildlife content on this platform, you absolutely have to head over to his channel to see all of the amazing work he does.
Another huge thank you goes out to JJ ‪@Ecotasia‬, who generously provided their incredible footage that was instrumental to making this video. Their work is seriously underrated, be sure to check out their channel for some of the most fascinating wildlife content I’ve seen anywhere. The same can be said for Spencer ‪@MyWildBackyard‬, without his footage and guidance in the production of this video it never would have come together so well. And last but certainly not least, we want to thank Emilio ‪@AnimalEncountersEP‬ for making this whole trip possible, it literally never could have happened without his expertise and generosity. Go give everyone’s channels some love, if you like what we do here I’m certain you’ll absolutely love everything that these outstanding creators do.
Please do not attempt to reenact or recreate any events or scenes from our videos. All animal interactions on this channel are performed by wildlife professionals, and we routinely receive assistance from local wildlife experts and guides during production. All necessary medical precautions were taken to ensure the safety of the hosts and crew. No animals were harmed, injured, or killed in the production of this video.

Thank you so much Jack! It was such an honor to make this video with you, bullet ants are a subject we’ve wanted to tackle for so many years. After watching your bullet ant sting videos I was super curious about what the sting would actually be like, and I’m happy that we were able to dispel some of the misconceptions about these animals after seeing that it isn’t that bad. Really glad you enjoyed the flow of information, we wanted to try to make this as persuasive as possible. We can’t thank enough for your support and also your own amazing efforts to share these insects with the world.

Great information as always guys. So many animals and insects have bad reputations they don’t deserve. Keep fighting the good fight to highlight this. Also, to take multiple stings from these ants takes a lot of guts! Cool to see you with Jack, love his channel!

I have one question: what does the statement “Please do not attempt to reenact or recreate any events or scenes from our videos” mean in the disclaimer in the description? Does that include catching things like frogs, turtles, or beetles?
@TheWildlifeBrothers
@TheWildlifeBrothers 7 ай бұрын
That’s a great question. The disclaimer serves to dissuade viewers from attempting to interact with wildlife in a way that could harm themselves or the animal, and to a certain extent also acts to protect our channel from liability in the event of an accident. However, we absolutely still encourage people to explore nature and engage with wildlife in a safe and respectful manner, and so as long as you learn how to conduct the interactions properly activities like herping and birding can be very fulfilling! Generally speaking, the best way to appreciate wildlife is to do so from a respectful distance, but with a bit of study and practice it is certainly possible to mediate interactions with some species in a mutually beneficial way. I hope that helps, and thank you very much for watching!

Bullet ants were so hard to find. I have some curiosity about the sting, but it is interesting to see how I had no clue what i was doing and got the most upset ant, and she still wouldn't sting me

Yeah I was surprised by how uninclined they are to sting, even after we did the sting test those ants were super calm and didn’t seem to mind hanging out for a bit. Thanks for watching, this one wouldn’t have been possible without you!

0:59 Oh my goodness, the difference in size between those two ants! I had no idea there was such a drastic scale of sizes among ants. To be honest, their jaws look like their bite would be more painful than the sting! Of course that doesn't take into account the neurotoxin. By visuals alone, though, those mandibles are intimidating! 11:00 I think it was tasting you! :P

Bullet ants are pretty awesome, definitely one of the most impressive insects we’ve ever worked with. A bite from one would certainly not be pleasant, and the sting was no cakewalk either, but it was an honor to test it out for ourselves. Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much Jackson! You’re right about that, the hype around the sting has waned quite a bit (sucks for us as we were hoping for this video to drive some traffic) but the other side of that is that I’m glad that bullet ants aren’t in the line of fire from all the people for whom critical thinking is a distant memory. We really appreciate your support as always!

Thank you for making a video like this. I feel like those faked world’s worst sting videos did a lot of damage and spread a lot of misinformation about these animals and others like them. Of course it’s always best to avoid being stung and allergic reactions and pain tolerance can differ which will effect how you react but viewing an animal as a threat makes it much more likely that people will attempt to kill them in an encounter.
@TheWildlifeBrothers
@TheWildlifeBrothers 7 ай бұрын
Thank you so much, we really appreciate it! There is a lot of conflicting information online about what bullet ants are like, and I’m glad that we were able to show off their true nature a bit. You’re right about avoiding stings being a good practice for many reasons, giving animals their space is the best way to avoid a sting or bite altogether. Thanks for watching!

Great work with this episode, I'm so glad that there is content dispelling all the over-sensationalism and fear mongering that has historically been associated with bullet ants in digital wildlife content. Their size always surprises me, I mean I know they are big but then I see them on a human hand and I'm like that is an *ant*. Seems like the stings weren't awful for you, I definitely appreciated the calmly delivered commentary on the pain.

We definitely wanted to break the mold of sting content with this one, so I’m glad we were able to achieve that. I was also surprised by their size when we first saw them, even seeing them in videos and pictures beforehand didn’t do them justice. Thanks for watching, Ben, we always appreciate your support!

This was actually a very interesting video. Although you say it is painful but not as dangerous as it’s made out to be, I wonder if someone could be allergic to the sting and therefore have a more serious reaction. Your arm looked pretty red and a bit swollen. Would this require an épi pen? Good job guys!
