This video is exactly what it sounds like. Tonight, we're venturing into the cloud forests of Ecuador in search of the most venomous spider in the entire world, the infamous Brazilian wandering spider. Legends have been told about this spider's aggressive attitude and frightening speed for generations, and if you ask just about anyone online, they will tell you that trying to handle a wandering spider is practically a death sentence. So naturally, our goal is to catch one of these deadly arachnids and hold it in our bare hands to prove that there is so much more to these fascinating animals than the stories would have you believe. Ready for the spider encounter of a lifetime? Keep watching!
If you're not subscribed to Spencer and you found this video... I kindly suggest you check out his channel right now: ‪@MyWildBackyard‬
Any time we get to work with Spencer in the field it's as much a treat as it is an honor, and let me tell you, his content is next level. He is pushing the bounds of wildlife edutainment on KZbin, and you need to be following his work. We can't thank him enough for his guidance with the production of this video from filming to editing, and for all of the amazing footage he shot with us to capture this amazing spider.
Oh yeah, one note that we wanted to get ahead of. We call the Brazilian wandering spider the deadliest spider in the world throughout this video, and I can already see the comments flooding in about the Sydney funnel-web spider and how they're much more dangerous to get bitten by. In the context of this video, we're using "deadliest" to mean most toxic drop for drop, not to mean causing the worst effects on the human body in the shortest amount of time. The Sydney funnel-web is more than likely capable of taking someone's life faster than a wandering spider, but when it comes to venom toxicity, there's no comparison - Phoneutria wins. 0.006 mg/kg LD-50 for wandering spiders, ~2 mg/kg for funnel-webs. Happy to have spirited debates in the comments, but we wanted to be clear about what we mean by deadliest here.
This video, and indeed our entire trip to Ecuador, would never have been possible without the incredible knowledge, kindness, generosity, and work ethic of Emilio from ‪@AnimalEncountersEP‬. He guided all of us through some of the most unbelievable but challenging locations we've ever explored, and helped us accomplish lifelong dreams (like this video) that we never imagined would be possible on one trip. Our Ecuador mission would not have been the same without Jack and Gage from ‪@JacksWorldofWildlife‬, and as a matter of fact, if it weren't for their efforts this video would never have been possible. Jack provided some of the best shots in this video, and has an arguably even more impressive wandering spider encounter on his channel! And finally, we have to shout out Rex / mistersceloporus , their knowledge and field experience are staggering and they helped immensely in finding some of the coolest things we saw in Ecuador. If you like what we do, you will love what these guys do, so go give them all some love!

This was awesome, fellas. Loved every second of it. Very cooly, calmly, responsibly, and professionally addressed. Venom is expensive to make in nature, having dealt with spiders for many decades I find it funny when people freak out when I pick up brown recluse spiders or black widows, just don't press on them, remain relaxed, the spider will see you as not a threat and remain chill.

@shaylynn926
@shaylynn926 2 ай бұрын
To be fair. The only reasons why spiders like these bite like a recluse would is because we agitate or threaten them. Say you get a brown recluse in your boot, and you don't shake it out? You lose a toe. Unfortunately, just like lizards, bugs, fish, anything humans don't find cute, are treated with irrational fear..even bats. I always save spiders when i can. I love jumping spiders! I saved a few that i realistically could. Also all the frogs in the background are soothing. But man they sound like smoke alarms, lol.

I used to live in Peru, there you can buy small wooden crates of bananas at the market. When I opened it and pulled the bananas out (they come attached to branch) there was a Wandering spider about the same size as in this video. She was also just as calm as this one. Ive come across 3 in my life and none of them were aggressive at all. Stunning spiders.

Great video! but man that would make me think twice. If it is about a wild caught spider, their temperament is pretty different per individual. Even spiders have personalities to say. So even if a spider is a little timid, if it has had bad experiences before with humans or is simply said in a grumpy mood, there is always a slight chance that they might feel threatened enough to give a bite.

I think you are right with the part that these spiders are very missunderstood and yes they can be pretty calm😅 i do love handle spiders but i still think it is a very stupid idea to handle the brazilian wandering spider or the thunnelweb etc. Even if you are an expert in the field and know what you do... Just one slipup one spook to this beautyfull animal and things get dirty😅 no money on earth would get me to handle these

We did find this spider far closer to human settlements than we expected to. @@TheWildlifeBrothers Did you mention that the venom of the wandering spider can cause an extremely painful erection and scientists are studying it in an attempt to produce erectile dysfunction treatments. I guess not that relevant but a fun tidbit of info. If the venom of the funnel web can kill you faster, is it not technically more deadly?
@TheWildlifeBrothers
@TheWildlifeBrothers Ай бұрын
We didn’t bring up priapism (the name of the condition you described) in this one, but it’s definitely one of the least pleasant effects of wandering spider bites. That’s a great question; we’re defining “deadliest” here as a measure of overall venom toxicity, not just its potency to humans. But there are a couple different ways to define “deadliest” when it comes to animals, so it can get a bit confusing.
