This video is exactly what it sounds like. Tonight, we're venturing into the cloud forests of Ecuador in search of the most venomous spider in the entire world, the infamous Brazilian wandering spider. Legends have been told about this spider's aggressive attitude and frightening speed for generations, and if you ask just about anyone online, they will tell you that trying to handle a wandering spider is practically a death sentence. So naturally, our goal is to catch one of these deadly arachnids and hold it in our bare hands to prove that there is so much more to these fascinating animals than the stories would have you believe. Ready for the spider encounter of a lifetime? Keep watching!

Any time we get to work with Spencer in the field it's as much a treat as it is an honor, and let me tell you, his content is next level. He is pushing the bounds of wildlife edutainment on KZbin, and you need to be following his work. We can't thank him enough for his guidance with the production of this video from filming to editing, and for all of the amazing footage he shot with us to capture this amazing spider.
Oh yeah, one note that we wanted to get ahead of. We call the Brazilian wandering spider the deadliest spider in the world throughout this video, and I can already see the comments flooding in about the Sydney funnel-web spider and how they're much more dangerous to get bitten by. In the context of this video, we're using "deadliest" to mean most toxic drop for drop, not to mean causing the worst effects on the human body in the shortest amount of time. The Sydney funnel-web is more than likely capable of taking someone's life faster than a wandering spider, but when it comes to venom toxicity, there's no comparison - Phoneutria wins. 0.006 mg/kg LD-50 for wandering spiders, ~2 mg/kg for funnel-webs. Happy to have spirited debates in the comments, but we wanted to be clear about what we mean by deadliest here.
This video, and indeed our entire trip to Ecuador, would never have been possible without the incredible knowledge, kindness, generosity, and work ethic of Emilio from @AnimalEncountersEP. He guided all of us through some of the most unbelievable but challenging locations we've ever explored, and helped us accomplish lifelong dreams (like this video) that we never imagined would be possible on one trip. Our Ecuador mission would not have been the same without Jack and Gage from @JacksWorldofWildlife, and as a matter of fact, if it weren't for their efforts this video would never have been possible. Jack provided some of the best shots in this video, and has an arguably even more impressive wandering spider encounter on his channel! And finally, we have to shout out Rex / mistersceloporus , their knowledge and field experience are staggering and they helped immensely in finding some of the coolest things we saw in Ecuador. If you like what we do, you will love what these guys do, so go give them all some love!
