Yes! There's something so compelling about the inherent struggle of good and evil being approached through love rather than battle, that complex transformation of animosity into romance. Rumbelle, the Doctor and the Master, Loki and Darcy, and, like you said, Reylo... When light and darkness touch, there's so much lovely potential :)

I find people's ships fascinating. Especially the controversial or crack ones. I also tend to ship multiple ships with the same people. I feel like people don't "choose" their ships. You can't really actively choose who you are attracted to, I think a similar thing happens with ships. I know that's how it works for me, I just see them interact and then I feel things. But I like to learn about people's ships because i might be able to appreciate the idea of certain character dynamics better.

Tbh, some crack ships give me life. Crack week in fandoms is often such a great, fun time. You get to see creativity, you'll laugh a lot or shake your head. I found that a lot of rare pair or crack shippers do have some very detailed knowledge about the material and tend to pay attention to the smallest things. Which is awesome, and you get to learn things you might not even have considered before.

i feel like a lot of ship shaming ends up being slashers vs het shippers, which shouldn't necessarily be mutually exclusive, but some people act that way. my pet peeves with slashers are female bashing and assuming that they are more progressive just bc they ship two ppl of the same sex. on the other hand, het shippers often just dismiss queer ships by saying that x character is OBVIOUSLY straight or that shipping two same-sex people is "degrading" their relationship.

why would anyone want to shame someone for a ship? To anyone reading, I don't care if you ship Harley/Joker, Destiel, wincest, Killgrave/Jessica Jones, Spidypool, Sterek, Hannigram, hell I don't care if you ship Harry Potter with Darth Vader, if someone is trying to shame you for shipping some fictional characters, then just think to yourself that this person probably has a sad little life if this is how they spend it. And if their argument is that it triggers them, then remember to Tag your shit and it's no longer your problem.

Also this video reminds me of the anti blogs on tumblr. Anti Stucky, anti reylo, anti spidypool etc I could go on.… People who run these blogs harass fic writers and fan artists. Seriously if you hate a ship so much then avoid that ship? Those aren't real people and no one is getting hurt. Then why waste so much time and bully people. Moreover just because someone else ships something doesn't mean you can't ship something else. I ship cherik and don't really ship Wolverine X Charles. That doesn't mean I should go around scolding people for shipping it, others liking a certain pairing doesn't stop me from shipping cherik.

Reminds me of the time when the Attack on Titan fandom went totally nuts after a certain chapter. Two main shipping groups would attack each other, even causing some of the big blogs to quit tumblr because they were tired of taking people's crap. This is something I really don't understand. Why do some feel the need to be offeneded by other people's ships if they don't affect them in the slightest? Why not just coexist in peace?

The Voltron fandom has been so bad the creators had to come in and tell people not to abuse other shippers and to be kind. I was scared initially to admit to my ship because I've seen people sent death threats, child porn, gore and suicide bait, for a ship that isn't even problematic unless you HC that way. But now I draw fanart for it. The shippers are beautiful and the creators and VAs are super supportive and I am so happy. Shiro love you baby

I always seem to fall for the hated ships, the ones people call abusive, like Reylo. Shamers always say that it's disgusting or justifying rape but I don't see it that way. I want redemption for the bad guys. I want Jessica to teach Killgrave the error of his ways and turn him good. I want Rey to bring Kylo to the light side of the force. Back in season 1, I wanted Katara to be Zuko's honor. Shamers always make me feel embarassed by my ships by saying I condone abuse.

I am a person who ships one person (that I absolutely love with my whole being) with A LOT of people (never with me tho, just saying,) but even I have ships I can't groove with, sadly. But I just avoid the ships I don't _"FEEL"_. That does not mean that I hate or even dislike that ship, I am actually just really, really indifferent about them. Like, I feel nothing for the ship at all, and I do tend to try to at least get into most ships that involves my fav actor/character/bias, so why would I bother with fics with said fics if I don't feel anything? It'll be a waste of my time and I wouldn't be able to appreciate the work the author put into writing it. *However*, it can be rather difficult for some ships to the point I wonder if I'll ever come across a fic with purely just my OTP in it. Sterek, for example, is really hard to avoid if I am in the mood for some Teen Wolf and have no idea what kind of fic I want to read at the time, lol. Don't get me started on my crossover pairings tho. Half the time I come up with a new ship that no one else (seemingly) thought of and I cry a river because I'm the only shipper (that I know of). Okay, I'm going to shut up now and just go back to watching your videos LOL.
@climbingstill9503
@climbingstill9503 8 жыл бұрын
Oh my god, Sterek is also my OTP, and I literally see people ship Stiles with everyone, including Elana (TVD), Barry (TF), and even Harley Quinn. But that's because Stiles is the best character ever (I also digress). But when it comes to fanfiction and the ever amazing fan videos about Sterek, it's always about them getting angry at each other for liking girls. Stydia shippers also love to shame the sh*t out of Sterek shippers. While I see the appeal of Stydia, I see what you mean when you just don't FEEL it. I don't feel Stydia, but I do feel Sterek. I guess it's just about perspective, and the way of interpreting.

I will always be of the belief of Ship Whoever You Want. I have two commonsense caveats to this because I think they are reasonable and would make the shipping world an altogether more tolerable place: *1. Always be real about the chances of your ship.* In other words if your pairing is crack or non-canonical acknowledge that and don't lie to yourself and say it's going to happen when it is very likely not. This is very case by case as every pairing has a sliding scale of interpretation and support from implausible and appealing fantasy to rich subtext and implications. Example: the recent hashtag GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend. I have no problem with the ship whatsoever and understand the appeal. However I don't respect the blatant pushing of a fan-preferred couple that is never going to nor should happen. The nature of this couple is based off a reinterpreting of the deep relationship between Cap and Buckey that relies more on fantasy fuel than actual narrative support. It is an altering of the kind of relationship between two characters through imagination, ignoring the writer's intentions. It's not a rallying for a logical fan-preferred couple that could happen or even a push for queer representation: it's about making their fantasy come true regardless of respect for narrative cohesion, characterization and textual evidence and framework. Another example of this is SasuNaru from Naruto. A minority of fans were genuinely pissed off that the two did not end up together and the reason for that was not because they were given real hope in that direction but because they tricked themselves about the couples' chances and the author's intentions. It was obvious to everyone else that Sasuke and Naruto's relationship was meant to be that of best friends and brothers, nothing more or less. Naruto is a shounen manga aimed at teenage boys (mostly) which emphasized friendship, particularly male friendship and camaraderie, as its main theme. Like all deep and complicated male relationships it attracted plenty of slash shippers. That's expected but how deluded do you have to be to think it would actually happen? So yeah. Be real about your ship's chances and ship away. *2. Always be real about the **_nature_** of your ship.* This one is a lot harder to pull off because it is even more contingent upon other things. On the most basic level it is what is says on the tin. If, for example, you ship a brother and sister in a romantic relationship, that is a weird and squicky couple to a lot of people because it is incestuous. Rather than lying and saying the nature of the pairing is just as normal as any other non-incestuous couple, it is far more logical to accept the level of squick as it is an innate part of that type of ship whether it affects you personally or not. If your chosen duo/trio/whatever is weird and squicky, or crack and impossible or dark and twisted, the tonal realities should not be swept under the rug. I think this is most applicable to troubled pairings, where there is a lot of triggering themes. Take Jessica Jones for example. The most popular ship is Jessica and Trish but Jessica is also shipped with Killgrave. Killgrave is a sociopathic, serial abuser, who rapes women, treats people like his personal entertainment and is responsible for many people’s death. He is an irredeemable degenerate who raped, mind controlled and stalked Jessica. However, in spite of all that, I think it is totally fine to ship him and Jessica - as long as you’re real about the nature of their relationship. While it’s fine to explore and expand upon characters in things like fanfiction there always needs to be a step back and acknowledgement of how the canon portrays these characters because in these cases the ship canonically includes rape/abuse and therefore features into an even wider discussion with how we frame problematic relationships in fiction and how in turn they influence our lives and cultural norms. Without this awareness and sensitivity one could be guilty of perpetuating harmful ideas by rationalizing them. It’s a fine line to walk and it should be imo.

While I can see where you are coming from, what should and shouldn't happen is based on what the writers (which can also include fan writers) think and feel about the characters. In the example you brought up, yes, Bucky and Steve may not be gay and wildly in love with each other but, then again, they could be. There is plenty of evidence and while there are fan fictions for the couple, there is also acknowledgement from the actors and writers of the movies of Bucky and Steve's relationship and how they could be gay. I also find that the ship shaming I have gotten the most from is for Johnlock. While you might think that John and Sherlock should never be together, I think that they may be a pretty badass couple and that there is a very deep and emotional connection between the two that I interpret (because we are fans and are here to interpret) as a love relationship. It's all about interpreting, which is what we do. There is no set in stone should and shouldn't. There is just ships

thank you for your 2nd point. this is what i wanted to hear. it's ok if people ships really dark and twisted ships until they are know the ship is dark and twisted. i have those guilty pleasures too. however the problem is when people don't aware or admit that their ship is "problematic". as you said above. if someone tries to justify certain behaviours or actions. because in that case it could be very dangerous.

Ship shaming is a real annoying issue that I keep encountering within the My Hero Academia Fandom, which is the fandom that I am primarily active on. I'm a non-shipper, I don't have otps or notps, just pairings I find cute and oddly so if it's a crack ship, but not something that I would actually support. Basically, I'm neutral when it comes to all ships. It really irks me when I see others berate another for their ship, saying basically every reason you said at the start. An example is BakuDeku(or basically any ship with Bakugou) Some context, Bakugou was and still kinda is an asshole, but he also used to be a bully. He was bully to Deku, the protagonist of the series, when he was a child all the way up to his last year of middle school. Now, you can see why some people condemn it, right? I do too, it's entirely understandable why people don't like the ship, seeing it as toxic and abusive. However, here's the thing, their relationship and Bakugou himself has been improving. Yes, Bakugou has yet to apologize, and yes their relationship is still extremely rocky and it'll be a stretch to say that they're now friends. But again, it has been improving, and you all know whether you ship it or not that it will keep improving until they can not only consider themselves comrades, but friends. The series is a fucking Shounen for goodness sake and Bakugou is the deuteragonist of the series, so narrative pretty much confirms that, yes, they will be getting along whether they'll have to be forced to or not. People who claim that the shippers who ship the pairing condone a relationship that may or may not be abusive as time passes and development progresses really annoys me to hell. If it's only a few people I wouldn't mind, but no, I've seen countless of them berating, insulting, and harassing BakuDeku shippers and when the shippers respond and defend themselves, they end up dismissing them, calling them disgusting or delusional. Of course, that isn't always the case, there the ones who don't just outright insult the shippers and respectfully state their reasons as to why they do not support the ship, and kudos to them because they are a rarity from my experience. Liking BakuDeku doesn't mean condoning abusive relationships in real life for goodness sake. I, personally, don't give a crap about ships between two characters with huge age gaps, ships that can be considered pedophilic. But that doesn't mean I feel nothing or nonchalant towards pedophilic relationships, of course not, I'll feel unsettled and disgusted and it'll take you a long while for you to convince me that that's real you're feeling. Same goes for liking characters as characters and not as a people. Like liking an immensely perverted character, a sociopath, a psychopath, an asshole. Just because you like those type of characters and you find them entertaining to watch doesn't mean you'll actually want to meet them in real life or even exist. Sorry, so sorry for the long comment. There are so many ships I wanna mention but BakuDeku is the first thing that popped into my mind and those shippers get a shit ton of crap that I can't help but feel the need to defend them and express my frustrations. I don't want to make my comment any longer so yeah...

I do catch myself often being negatively biased towards some ships, especially the 'problematic' ones. Often there are elements in them that make me uncomfortable, but the important part is to not let that negativity affect other people, so I mostly keep it to myself or reflect on the aspects that put me off about it and make peace with it. I know how idealistic it is to suggest that everyone just focus on the positive, since I am guilty of agreeing with people's reasoning for disliking certain pairings at times, but I try to distinguish between blunt hate and, as you've perfectly explained already, the constructive criticism that intends to capture the critical aspects reasonably. Preferences are totally normal and nobody should feel bad for shipping or NOT shipping something particular, especially when there's pressure from the fandom community. This is a complicated topic to discuss, because you can't just Kumbaya your way out of it when you have a big group of passionate and dedicated people with emotional attachment to certain universes and characters, but in all honesty, you did a fantastic job on igniting at least some thoughts and I totally support the underlying message.

I'm a major multishipper; I ship at least 90% of the ships in a majority of the fandoms I'm in, and I still respect the ones I don't like. So of course, I've come across ship-shaming a few times during my days on the internet. For example, I ship Stevidot (Steven/Peridot) from Steven Universe, but only when Steven is aged up. Even when I explicitly state this, people will attack me, calling me a pedophile for shipping who's normally a child with an "adult" character (except gems are ageless, so she's not even really an adult, but I digress). Some of you may know how insanely hostile the SU fandom can be, so shipping anything that's outside the norm in that fandom is pretty much begging for death threats. It's really depressing, honestly.

Yeah, this is a great video mate, A+ As for shipping, I'm firmly for ship and let ship mentality. The insular internet has lead people, nerds especially, to intrinsically tie way too much of their identity into fandoms and works of fiction. Shipping is a huge victim of this, and people just try and rephrase their ships as some sort of political or social statement and... no? They're just fictional characters you pair off. Then the harassment comes. Like in Homestuck people pair off Dave and Rose, siblings. I think it's gross, so I avoid it. But then dozens of folks jump on that as these shippers are bad people, and they are promoting real life incest and rape (pro-tip don't use real life issues to bash people liking fiction it's really disingenuous). Then there's shit like Rey and Kylo Ren. Again, I don't like the ship, I never saw chemistry, but the sheer quantity of people saying that it's rape and/or even pedophilia (even though they're both adults) and threatening/suicide baiting the shippers is wrong. No piece of fiction is worth death threats. Bashing people and making judgements about their real world selves off a fictional pairing is really gross and stupid. Goddamnit.

I've been in shipping for a long time and to be completely honest when I was a lot younger I was guilty ship shaming in the ATLA fandom. I was a Zutara fan and hated Kataang. But now nine years later my tastes have changed dramatically, I ship Jetko (a tiny ship between Jet/Zuko) and I don't mind the other ships. I think what ship shamers forget or ignore is that everyone has a distinct taste for certain characters and personalities, but these change over time. Nowadays I ship Stucky, Cherik, Johnlock, Thilbo and Eremen (Eren/Armin from SNK). The only thing that still pushes me towards questioning anothers ship is legal issues that we face in reality, for example in Attack on Titan (or SNK) I disagree with the most popular ship Eren/Levi because there is at least a fifteen year age difference between the characters which makes me uncomfortable as an adult (although admittedly I think if I was 14 again then I would ship it). I love the characters Levi and Eren but because of my tastes and discomfort of the age difference I cannot ship them. As long as you respect each others opinions, fandom and the online community is a beautiful and supportive place to be involved in :)

People need to chill on hating the Sherlolly shippers such as myself. I'm not homophobic just because I'm against Johnlock, I think they would be better as friends and I'm not denying they are pretty much soulmates. But I care about Molly so much and think Sherlock and her suit each other too well to not ship them.

I ship abusive ship, why not? It's not like I want an abusive relationship real life, I just like shipping two fucked up characters, but I like healthy ship too, shipping is like exploring varieties relationship and humans. But i always keep note to myself to not treat shipping too seriously, passionate is cool, but gotta remember that it's fictional. Respecc eachother ship

I don't know. I think there is a discussion to be had about wether or not it is okay to ship adult men with children (in an explicitely sexual and/or positively portrayed way). I'm fine with almost everything else, even if I don't like it or disagree with it but that just makes me so uncomfortable, I can't accept it.

It would be pretty cool if you did a video about it, you're so good at explaining the reasoning behind certain ships and you present your information in a fun, interesting, and intelligent manner that everyone comes out understanding why people ship the characters they do. On dA, I've even come to notice a good bulk of my watchers are NaruHina fans who don't really like NaruSaku (to be fair, most of them are sane and relatively nice compared to others). And to your final question at the end, I ship some really rare rarepairs. As far as I know, I'm the only one who ships Eiffel and Kepler from Wolf 359- although it is a small fandom. But I also ship Eiffel/Hilbert, Kepler/Jacobi, Eiffel/Hera, Minowski/Lovelace, and Maxwell/Hera so I'm not alone with a single ship sailing in the pond that is the Wolf 359.

As always, I appreciate your balanced approach to topics that are deeply emotional for many people. One thing that I think exacerbates the issue of taking ship-related slights personally has to do with the nature of adolescence. People just entering into fandom tend to be young and still in the midst of learning themselves and forming their identity. This leads to some people making fandom interests and ships a central part of their self-image. When there's a community of people who identify largely or primarily as shippers of one pairing or another, they feel loyal to that group identity. If someone steps on one of your fellow shippers' toes, or maligns the honor of your fandom (or ship sub-fandom), of course this means war! How dare they talk that way about Karezi?! Add to this lots of young folk who have just recently learned about some of the more complicated and nasty things in life, like abusive relationships and mental illness, and are applying this to the fandom context in ways that don't quite follow. Power imbalances in real-life relationships are bad, therefore shipping characters who have a power imbalance in canon is bad and we must stop people from doing it! Depicting more minorities in fiction is good, therefore having minority headcanons is also good and EVERYONE MUST DO IT OR THEY ARE BAD. The video's extra timely, since school just let out for much of North America and Europe. Attacks have already started ramping up in a couple of my fandoms. Black-and-white thinking all over the place. Ah, summer. Thanks for the OnePunchMan nod. (thumbs up) Nice editing with diverse sources, as usual. I love information-dense videos.

I really don't understand ship shaming. Yeah, I have my favorite ships, but I don't mind others in the fandom. As long as it's done well I'll read/watch it with an open mind. Awesome video, by the way! My only real experience with ship shaming was in the Homestuck fandom, where a certain popular ship became canon against basically THE ENTIRE KNOWN UNIVERSE'S expectations and everyone was super duper excited about it. Well, most everyone; myself and a few others had never been into that ship, and while most everybody was pretty respectful about it (and excellent arguments about the validity of that ship and others were presented in the course of debates about OTPs and the like), I do recall once being scolded heartily for not liking that ship, as though I was somehow obligated to be as excited as everyone else. I mean, looking back it was pretty funny in a ridiculous way, but I do remember basically avoiding the fandom for about a month because there's something just really unpleasant about being told, 'yeah, but go like this thing right now because your perspective and feelings no longer matter. We're superior, beotch.' Yah, no. I figure the best cure for ship shaming would probably be to just recognize that shipping is a good thing--no matter what you ship, like you said. It means Person A has something they're excited about that makes them happy, so whether or not you personally think it's stupid, why rain on their parade? World's depressing enough already. Pat Person A on the back, tell them to go enjoy their cute ship, and then get on with shipping DA REAL SHIZ. Hey, just because you're respectful doesn't mean you can't also be right.

I totally got seriously ship shamed on tumblr, as a part of the Elsanna fandom and a person who ships it openly I recognise that this is a problematic ship (all the incest implications) but just because I can see a dynamic that could be romantic between the characters it does not mean that I'm out there searching for fics and fan arts where they are sisters or that I personally condone incest but the "haters" can get really aggressive towards this fandom, it makes being part of a fandom really awful cause suddenly this is not a safe place anymore.

People have to stop projecting traits on those who have a ship that makes them personally uncomfortable. I, for example, find that WIncest isn't my cup of tea; but I don't assume everyone who ships two brothers or other blood related folks (for whatever reason) is someone who supports incest or even practises incest themselves. A great part of being in fandoms, at least for me, is to understand other people's views. Especially if they ship something completely different. Unfortunately, sometimes someone won't have a normal discussion with you because they feel attacked by just being asked about the reasons why they ship something. This mainly happens in the rare pair department or the controversial ships because they do have to take a lot of crap from others. At the end of the day, shipping fictional characters doesn't hurt anybody. It only starts to affect others when you decide to push your agenda on others, forming groups attacking different ships for their different opinions. Just ship and let ship.

A ship says almost nothing about a person, BUT how they act around their ship and particularly their rival ships reveals a lot about them. Some shipper are extremely aggressive, rude and immature and their true inner ugliness shines trough. To a point where some ships have a hardcore fanbase which is known to act in a certain manner. On another note: I saw saigenos (aka Saitama x Genos) in this video. Do you know this ship personally? If yes, how about a video of them? It would be interesting because of the webcomic, manga and anime version of this particular pairing and the dynamic between a cyborg and a 'human'. Or a video about human x robot/cyborg ships in general. For some people it's a no-go, for other people it's a kink and for some people - like me - it's as possible as any other pairing option. On a last note: Time to subscribe to your channel. I'm actually surprised that I'm not already subscribed, what was I thinking.

Yeah ship shaming is just stupid. I may not ship Shizaya from Durarara!! but I don't hate people who do.I also don't understand why people say you can't ship multiple pairings within the same fandom. I am also the kind of person to ship the same character with multiple different characters. For example, Yuu, from Owari no Seraph(Seraph of the End). I simultaneously ship him with Shinoa, Mika, Kimizuki, Guren and Yoichi. I also ship Yoichi and Kimizuki from that anime, Shinoa x Mitsuba, Guren x Shinya, and Crowly x Ferid, which isn't popular at all. I'm pretty much the same for all fandoms(excpet Supernatural Destiel forever), so really don't get ship shaming. Ship whatever you want.

That's true, and when I watch anime with my friends, I feel this sort of barrier when I ship things that normal people would never ever think they could be together. Like I'm Attack on Titan, normal people think "Mikasa and Eren" but shippers like me think "Levi and Eren" and on good days, why not even "Armin and Eren" or "Mikasa and Annie" and in Durarara I also don't see the appeal of Shizaya, but shippers are shippers, right?

I loved this video. I've been shamed cause of a ship I enjoyed so I totally understand. I love to ship characters that are considered non-canon or completely out of left field. Of course that leaves me open to some shaming as a result. Yes, I know that in the realms of that work those characters do not end up together, but I enjoy wondering how it would work if it did. I enjoy diving into those worlds and finding ways to see if my ship could keep afloat. Does that mean that I hate the canon or other ships? Heck, no! Those can be just as fun. If you and I have different ships that oppose each other then that can open us up to a lot of fun discussions. Shipping is all about fun in my opinion and we shouldn't shame someone because of it.

Even Gene Roddenberrys own created Word "Th'y'la", covered every individual possibility, how to see Kirk and Spocks Relationship, without getting into war about it, even in the 60s. I think the main problem of some people, is either homophobia, enjoying to argue and mock other people on their opinion, or watching everything burn. Conclusion for these people, they obviously have very less joy in their own lives.

Only one of those have I ever been shamed for, to the point where much of the time within the general SW fandom, I usually won't discuss even though I totally think Reylo will be canon and have been studying the details of SW canon since January last year. Someone once characterized the Reylo fans as all being lonely 40+ year old women with a vibrator, a bulk container of lube, and a copy of 50 Shades of Grey on the nightstand. In my own experience talking with fellow Reylo shippers, we range from about 12 to 80 in age, there are male Reylo shippers, and I personally couldn't stand 50 Shades (much of the BDSM community hates it, too, as far as I can tell, but people like what they like). That said, I've also encountered some very entertaining Kylux fanfic. Not my ship, but still very well done. Oh well, ship and let ship, right?

No one is forcing me to look at a ship I don't ship! And if that floats your boat (pun intended) then I say go for it! And if I have to go into tags on tumblr for example, I have them blacklisted and pray people tagged their stuff. And if I follow someone who ship my NOTP, I just ask them to tag it, so I can block it. It's not hard, and people are understanding about it. Shaming is never the option, just don't. I have so much support for my Lucius/Hermione and Snape/Hermione fanfics (even though Narcissa/Lucius is my OTP) on the site I publish them, but if I wander anywhere else I tend to get shunned pretty hard. Oh well, I enjoy it and I know others do too! This was a great video!

I love this video. Two of my biggest ships are Littlefinger and Sansa for GoT (I know, It's literally called the 'creepyship') I can't help it. I love the power dynamic between them. Equally one of my ALL-TIME OTP's (Yes I have more than one 'One True Pair' ) is Jareth and Sarah from Labyrinth. Any chance on a video about our resident Goblin King and his Champion?

This was great! I did laugh out loud at the part that it becomes hard to distinguish between troll and hater. It's true, but it's just funny, I don't know why. I think the only pairings I really dislike or are my nOTP are mainly from seeing many shippers of those ships actively go out and bash the actual people from other ships or people who have valid reasons for disliking their ship. So I can see how antis or haters can crop up from that kind of thing. While I don't get how someone can just spend their time actively hating on something, I think it's okay for them to do so on their own platform and space, not in the ships community where there are hardworking fanartist and writers working, as long as they're not hurting or attacking actual people or their personality just based on their shipping, as you said here.

Omg I totally agree with you. I always try to share my opinion, but to not let other people feel left out. I usually say I see your point, but we all have our opinions or something like that. Why do people have to make fun of other peoples ship. I think if you do not like a ship use constructive criticism against it, but still see why people ship it. I have always been really open about ships and I will continue to be so. Even though I am open about ships, i do however see more ships more clearly than others, but I do not judge other people who ship others i do not see as clearly. For example Destiel and Sabriel. I understand why people would think Destiel and great friendship, but I also see something else there. Wether it will become canon or not I do not know, but I think it would be neat to get it canon, but not make the whole show about it. Sabriel I just think would be funny if they got together. Or just a strong friendship. I can just see Gabriel with a lollipop flirting with Sam. It would be hilarious. Although I can see why people would not ship it and I understand that. I also ship Captain Swan on OUAT, Snowing, and outlaw queen. I can see why people would ship others tho. I am back and forth with Rumbell, but i do not judge people that ship it, nor do I judge people who ship Swan Queen or any other ships. When I try to defend a ship I sometimes get backlash even if I do not put down a person, or if i am being nice about it. It is ridiculous to take a fandom so seriously that you would attack people starting Cyber bullying. That could lead to all sorts of things like suicide , depression, drugs, drinking, cutting, and more.

agreed! I'm a swanfire and recently converted swan queen shipper. I heavily dislike captain swan as a pairing but I am still somehow able to engage with the ouat fandom without attacking or jeering at CS shippers like yourself! amazing isn't it?!

Yes it is :). Actually I myself ship swanfire more than captain swan, but of course i see others opinions on that. I have not actually looked into Swanqueen, but I would love to know why you ship it. I love learning about why people ship things. I guess you can call it my interest, if that makes any sense.

Hermionetwo ah I miss swanfire, still not over how cruelly that got shot down :( I used to be fairly dismissive of swan queen. I mean I saw the eye sex and appreciated that they make great co-parents, but I never really thought that it could work or that the characters were framed THAT romantically. throughout season 4, though, I grew impatient with captain swan - I tried really hard to like it but I just think that despite the chemistry, the characters work better apart - and bored with outlaw queen even though I quite liked it at the beginning. I started reading these hilarious reviews of the show by a swan queen shipper and idk, through her eyes the ship suddenly seemed so obvious. by the end of season 4 I was teetering towards all-out shipping it. emma and regina kept having the most meaningful, soul-deep connections and interactions on the show and it just became really difficult NOT to see how in love they've become. then emma took the darkness to save regina and they only had eyes for each other even though emma probably SHOULD have been staring at hook and I was like 'ok nope' and now swan queen is pretty much all I can see when I watch the show XD I'm really behind though, I stopped watching halfway through this season so I've seen none of the hercules plotline. why do you ship captain swan? :)

I think it is more just because it is a canon relationship. I guess i can see the chemestry. I just have not been much into Once Upon a Time latley. I am sure i will give Swan Queen a try. I need to watch some videos on it. I do this with every ship. For example Destiel from Tv show Supernatural. Now that you have explained swan queen it sounds a lot like Destiel ship. Destiel has always been the ship i have seen the most and have been more open minded torward it. When i investigated Destiel, I was more into Sastiel, but then, to me Destiel made more sense. Sorry if you had not seen supernatural, just making observations. You mentioning eye sex, in my head i just shout DESTIEL. When i have time i will check out swan queen, though I am not sure if it will make me change my mind about Captain Swan. I just think Killian shows the most out of Emma. She opens herself out more, but at times she closes herself off to Killian. Henry does the same for Emma, but in a different family sort of way. It is hard to explain, i guess i go with the canon ship because Once Upon a Time is my second favorite show and i have not explored much into the shipping realm of it yet. I will be sure to do so though.

Hermionetwo duuuuuuude destiel is my otp. it makes hella sense. destiel and swan queen have some similarities yeah, but to me destiel towers above all other ships. I'm constantly amazed that jensen thinks he's playing dean as straight and not into cas. whatever he's aiming for, no offence to him but it is coming across pretty consistently as utterly in love with cas. as for cas, I don't think anyone connected to the show has ever attempted to deny that cas is canonically in love with dean.

I would say that say that I have gotten some ship shaming from fan of Thor and Loki as a couple because I prefer the idea of Loki with Jane. I also get ship shamed for wanting Jon Snow and Daenerys to get together because it would now be considered incest even though in the world they live in incest is socially acceptable aside from parent and child or sibling invest if you are not a Targaryen, also people still seem to love Jon with Ygritte even though I have never been a fan. I will admit if I don't like a couple, but I hope that I don't insult a fan of the couple because they have as much right to ship what they want to just like I do. I just have a ship and let ship sort of attitude.

I have a lot of ships with... questionable age differences. Like, late teens girl, man in 30s, type differences. And they get a lot of shame. Mostly from the groups of people who are very aware of the idea that things that happen in fiction can normalize things that are happening in real life. And, it's not like I don't get where they're coming from, but I still like it.

I literally ship Dipper from Gravity Falls with all people who he can be shipped with, while my main ship still is Billdip. I really have nothing against people shipping characters in ways i don't ship them. Maybe that's because i'm usually on the other side, trying to defend my right to ship whoever i like.

there are times when i want to ask people why they ship something but decide not to because I'm afraid they'll think i'm attacking their ship and either ignore or get defensive and answer in a heated way that may mask or muddle their true feelings for why they ship what they do.

but that's out of curiosity, not hate, right, so I think you're perfectly justified! if they do get angry, maybe try explaining that you're just curious? I know I tend to get super excited by my ships and may say things like, "omg this is practically canon they're so gay" and some people don't like it but really, a lot of people say things because they feel so strongly about it! being nice always helps and i'm sure you're a real swell person

Im so glad this video exists because I do get hate for liking the ships I do. I've gotten flack for Harley and Joker (abusive relationship), Johnlock, and occasionally, while living for Gallavich, wanting Ian to be happy and shipping Caleb and Ian. Shippers that don't ship these people because they don't understand. I know this because I also don't understand ships, but I wouldn't ever ship shame against them. Thanks for making this. Now people might like to know more about Harley an Joker and how their back story is literally the best villain backstory I've ever heard, and Johnlock, how Sherlock and John clearly have tension but can be whoever they want to be. I feel relieved, thanks
