I spent nearly 25 years in the Army. After the kids were old enough to know where we were we lived in Hawaii, Germany, Kansas, Virginia and Massachusetts. The older one went to college in Arkansas and is still there. Her younger sister went to the same University and has since lived all over the states as well as Singapore, Australia and now Cambridge, UK. They both reacted very differently to living in a variety of places.

I enjoy hearing your thoughts on ... life. I like the idea of roaming, of traveling, of not staying put. I think there are people who are naturally inclined to stay in one location. Born there, live there, die there. A lot of people in my small city are like that. Then there are those who need to roam, to live in different places throughout their lives. In my experience, I like these people better. Through circumstances I have lived in this small city for 20 years. But I'm a roamer. I long to GO. I want to live in different areas of the country (or in different countries), to shake off this small-minded southern town and have broader experiences, meet people who are different from me. As I said, circumstances have me in this place at this time. I hope in a few years to get back on the road and GO!

This is so true! Most people who left their home country for one reason or another and live far away from their parents, brothers, sisters, etc. know this feeling. "I am an Alien, I'm a legal Alien, I'm an English (wo)man in New York."

yep. i understand what you're saying. i left home over 40 years ago. i'm a vastly different person than i would have been otherwise. not always easy, but looking back now it was worth it.

I like the way you think. I'm not living in my home town but, one town over and I wish when I left I stayed gone. On the other hand, I am grateful to have seen my nephews grow into men, marry and have children of their own. I moved to Washington State and I couldn't get used to how much it rained. Then I moved to a small town outside of Denver and really liked Colorado, but I wanted more space around me. Eventually, I moved back to CT. and I have stayed. I see my cousin and here kids and Family more often than my own, but that's OK. I was a very social person younger than now as a retired person in midlife. Your advice is so true and I hope younger people who have their whole lives ahead heeds your advice.

Lin, I think that's one way of looking at it, but not the only way. Many people in my family are perfectly content to stay in the home town and be close to family. It just suits them and that's ok, it suits them. Even though they may like the idea of travel and adventure, its not for them. I left home in eastern Oregon to join the navy at 18. I was stationed on the east coast and went to Europe several times and when I got out years later, I came back to Oregon to set up a new life in Salem. I'd always wanted to leave home even as a little kid studying National Geographic maps of places that I might get to see someday, and I have a job that takes me all over the world now and I couldn't be happier with that aspect. But I always want to return home. I would recommend you involve yourself more in the activities that make you feel an outsider. You don't have a history with things like Halloween but you always have the chance to make new memories and connections that could make it feel more a part of you. I wish you luck fellow traveler.

"Wherever I May Roam But I’ll take my time anywhere Free to speak my mind anywhere And I’ll redefine anywhere Anywhere I roam Where I lay my head is home ...and the earth becomes my throne I adapt to the unknown Under wandering stars I've grown By myself but not alone I ask no one ...and my ties are severed clean The less I have the more I gain Off the beaten path I reign. i watch many of your videos, but please tell me, why should one give you money over patreon or otherwise just because you make your videos? You have enough money for to visit a coffeeshop, i dont, butthat doenst matter, but what really matters inmy opinion, is: in this world children die because of hunger, ....every day.... should one realy give money to you? You seem to have more than enough, many in this world dont have enough and cant even survive ... think about it

NOT supporting someone whose value is (in some people's experiences) higher than, say, a casual counselor, won't feed any of those starving kids except indirectly, by making people feel more kindly and caring about those not in our immediate family. We all have different priorities and all of them are legitimate from our point of view - else we'd give ourselves over to lizard rescue or whatever feels right. Supporting a new artist through Patreon is not so different from spending time and money on books which make one's life easier, happier, more deeply felt. Or buying music. Or attending community events. Why do we do anything? If you cannot see someone else's choice as legitimate, perhaps your vision is clouded.
