I want to tell my MacBook Air story. Last December, because we were all stuck at home, I decided I want to try to learn how to develop apps for the iPhone. That required I go buy a Mac, I’ve always been a bit anti-desktop so I went for the cheapest Mac I could, the M1 MacBook Air. I didn’t know anything about Apple Silicon, or would it make a difference from Intel. I was a devout PC user, I had my Lenovo ThinkPad, and it was great. This was only meant to be a secondary computer specifically for developing apps. Two weeks later, without even realizing it, I realized I transitioned everything onto the MacBook Air, even though I only had the cheapest model. Two weeks after that, that old ThinkPad was on the marketplace, and I got $1000 for it, covering the cost of my MacBook Air. I’ve been a happy MacUser ever cents. I do want a little more power eventually, so I’m probably going to wait to see what the next iteration of the MacBook Pro is, and by that, but for now, my MacBook Air is great

@@domdrone6766 Well, I disagree. First of all, it is the best to see the new generation and wait until Apple will open their cards. After it happens, you would be able to compare and make a right decision. Apple has unveiled everything that they wanted and we will have the whole year until they will show us something more. That is why, right now is the best time to buy what you really want and need. For example, 8/256 Version is nothing for me. I need at least 16/512 or 16/1TB. If I upgrade the Air-version, I will be about the 14 pro price, so, maybe it is better to buy a pro? Everyday dad said basically the same thing. This is like picking between $300 and $2000 camera. Technology has come extremely far due to M1. Most pros can't tell the difference between a Sony A6000 vs A7iii side to side so why $1700 more for an average user? Likewise M1 chip is just so efficient very few % of the population will get much benefit out of the M1 Pro, let alone M1 Max. Fear of missing out should not be a logical conclusion when looking at the performance of the base M1. The only thing to worth paying extra for most people is a larger SSD (if this is your only computer), you don't even need the 16 gB RAM based on how efficient the 8 gB ram is on the base. Get it refurbished which is essentially new for $850. Nothing can beat it at that price.

I mostly browse the internet. And I do 1080/1440 video editing for off road rides I do every so often. My biggest fear is that in 4 years the air will come to a full stop when editing videos

It's thin but sturdy with a strong unibody build, the battery lasts for days, the M1 makes apps load near-instantly, it's dead silent with no fan and yet it never heats up for a casual user. And I was able to get it used but in mint condition for a fraction of the price. It feels like one of the most worthy purchases I have ever made.

M1 MBA has served me surprisingly well as a dev machine with my only gripe being I wish I had more RAM. VMs, docker, working in sizeable codebases, all runs shockingly smooth for a machine with no fan. Not to mention when I'm not pushing it to its limits I can regularly get ~10 hours of battery and even power it in a pinch from an 18W phone charger. A huge step up from their history as overpriced portable hotplates that could barely run more than a web browser comfortably.

I bought a M1 air about 2weeks ago. I really contemplated returning it for the new 14 base model. This is my first time using apple so this was just something to play with and figured wasnt worth the extra money. I have been happy with it but my only complaint since it has no vents. When watching KZbin or using it on my lap its always building condensation on the bottom

I'm super happy with my 2020 M1 Pro (16 gb RAM), love this machine, *but* I will say I'm annoyed that Apple waited until the second iteration to bring MagSafe back. I know there's going to be power creep depending on what sector you work in, that's expected. But saving the MagSafe - and probably the new refresh rate, to a lesser extent -.... that's kind of cold. That stuff should have been part of the "new MacBooks" image alongside the M1 debut.

In terms of value, this thing will be very worth it for a couple more years for regular users. I mean battery life, screen, speakers, mics, performance. Everything is literally more then enough for regular users. I still haven't see windows laptops that can match this. There are still always compromises with Windows laptops.

Hey. I own the M1 MacBook 13" and love it. I have been using since April of 2021. It has replaced my desktop (for now, I have to go through the storage and organize it). It is much faster than the pc. It is great buy. I enjoyed the video. Thanks for the content and hard work.

My M1 Macbook Pro is my first Mac. Works flawlessly and if you are not a videographer, there should be nothing that can makes it runs slow. Photoshop, Lightroom, Luminar all works without a kink and the fan almost never kicks in.

I have got my Macbook Air just because of your videos. Everything you are is saying is correct. I have used Macbook air for the past year for heavy software and for 4K video editing and it runs so smooth. I prefer it to the other Macbook Pros because the Air is way lighter thiner and powerful than everything I've seen. With no fans it never gets hot and is completely quiet.

I so agree. My M1 MacBook Air is the best laptop I have ever used. Usually Apple laptops are too expensive. But I bought mine refurbished and the price was fabulous. I don't need a powerful machine. All I ever do is word processing, emails, watch videos, and so forth. This computer is absolutely perfect for me. Thanks for putting me on to it.

If you’re carrying around a bunch of cables to plug into your laptop then a small dongle doesn’t make any difference, so the extra ports don’t really do much for you.

I decided to upgrade my 2012 MacBook Pro. I spent $200 and got 16 gigs of ram, 500gb ssd and a brand new battery pack. The thing is way faster now. I still would like a M1 MBA. Thinking about selling the 2012 and putting money towards the MBA. Still not sure. I hate spending money lol!

Just bought a base M1 for 799 brand new. Im using it as a school laptop to compliment my gaming PC, but this is by far my nicest (and most expensive) laptop I have ever had. Great build quality, screen is great, keyboard is pretty good (and this is from someone with $150 mechanical keyboards) trackpad is as good as it gets. Hell, even light gaming is impressive. Thing preforms much better than my last laptop running non native code with no fan.

I just got a MBP 16" M1 MAX, but I have still been thinking about getting a MBA M1. It would be a perfect travel laptop. Easy to use on a tray table, only requires a 30W charger, can fit in smaller bags, and etc.... Also a Refurb'd MBA with 16GB and a 2TB HD is about $1K less than a MBP 14 with 16GB with a 2TB HD...
@MrEiniweini3 жыл бұрын
Curious? The 14" is the same portability horizontal dimensions as the Air. Why wouldn't you just avoid the 16" Max and go with the same spec 14"? I mean I got the base 14" for that exact reason, I ride a motorbike and portability is important. The sound and screen alone made the 14" a much better purchase in my mind, also the HDMI and MagSafe. The extra money for the 512 SSD and 16GB ram on the Air only makes it 35% cheaper than the base 14". Serious ly asking, why choose the 16" when the 14" would have covered both of your mentioned needs?
@cdee60963 жыл бұрын
You could have gotten the 14” MBP and covered both uses. I tell you the 14” screen real estate is very near that of my 2015 MBP 16”. I couldn’t believe it but I measured it and its close.

@@aryansawhney he/she knows that. I have the original 2012 15" and the body size is the same as the 16". The point is that the current 2021 14" has the body size of the MacBook Air and close to the same overall screen realestate to the 15" MacBook Pro.

I wanted to buy the 16gb version, but it's unavailable in my country. However, 8gb m1 outperforms by 2500$ 2020 Asus g531gw. That big thing, much expensive, cannot open anything without being plugged in, and the battery life is maximum 2 hours. Really m1 changed my life, same performance without 2kg power adapter, and 2kg laptop.

I currently have the m1 MBA and imo of your working on music professionally you need the macbook pro. I have rekord box and Ableton up rn and rekord box won't run without skipping the playback. This doesn't happen on the MacBook pro. Just my experience so far.

Agree 100%. I purchased the M1 MBAir base model as a replacement for a 2014 (???) MBPro. This machine does everything I need it to do. Battery life is a huge bene, the comfort and ease of closing it dropping it into a backpack and not worrying about it is perfect for my need. I would like a MB Pro Max, who wouldn't but this machine has become my sidekick. I'm keeping this one for many years to come. I do have a small KZbin channel and enjoy messing with video conversation from time to time. It does what I want, quickly and without error. I think you nailed the assessment precisely. Funny thing, I also use a Iphone SE 2020. I bought my wife the 12 pro max and the SE for me. Like the MB Air I prefer the ease of use, small size. Keeping the digital footprint small, hahaha. Thanks for a solid presentation!
@jackyharuhiko3 жыл бұрын
Talking about value the MBA is great. But of course, if you upgrade it to 16GB RAM and 512GB or even 1TB SSD, the cost will be much higher than the base and start to get closer than the base 14”. Having said that, it’s still better value than the M1 13 inch MBP.
