Every weapon set and build can only benefit from getting them back quicker, and perhaps more importantly holding onto your 3rd for longer. Silkbind moves run the gamut from offensive to defensive and positioning, and your hunts always go smoother when you have them precisely when you need them. @Doppelganger D I'm not expecting Speedrun times, but I do expect a certain level of awareness when it comes to sets that are comfy. You can do comfy sets that don't cut all your damage. A few skills are the difference between an 8 minute hunt and a 15 minute hunt. Knowing that difference is important, not the actual skill of the hunter, I'm almost completely blind so I am not judging by skill at all.
@gomi55112 жыл бұрын
I agree, there is definitely a certain point where "comfy" just turns into a terrible build. Defense boost is pretty much the biggest example. 7 entire levels of defense boost is equal to 1 level of health boost from world, which is just god awful pretty objectively. You would literally gain more survivability from dragonheart, or just eating for felyne moxie. Especially given Sunbreak is filled to the absolute brim with damage check after damage check, comfy or not, you should have the general damage skills, (atk boost 4 crit boost 3 wex 3) sharpness management of some kind, and, if possible, the damage skills specific to your weapon ( rapid morph for saed centric cb and swaxe, artillery for gl and raw cb, quick sheathe for ls, etc)

This reminds me of the "You don't have to stack Attack skills!" from *Rurikhan* a while back, for Monster Hunter World. Thing is, there's no such thing as perfection, and to assume that one way to play is the best... you're just kidding yourself out of pride. If I'm already good at surviving, I will add damage... but if I'm good at damage, I will toughen myself up. I'd rather have both offense and defense. When it comes to Monster Hunter the thing I enjoyed most about the game is whether I can knock out the monster using knockout King using sword and shield or just flying around and Blasting them with the gunlance. I overall just enjoy the game based on the weapons you can use and the different fighting styles. This is why I think rise is one of the best despite the fact that some people say that the game is too easy.
@DapimpBDSD2 жыл бұрын
I enjoy making mix sets that help my playstyle (Uber aggressive) BUT this said, unfortunately "meta" builds are what the game designers build the monsters for. It you're not meeting a certain threshold of DPS, the fights can be extremely difficult, borderline impossible especially when a simple monster movement will instant-cart you. There are some that enjoy this type of challenges but not the majority, hence why people loathe Alatreon even though in theory he was just a simple elemental DPS check (once you reached a level of Elemental DPS, the fight becomes fairly easy). Even fatalis in MHW was somewhat of a DPS check, if you're gear wasn't doing enough DPS, than you weren't gonna beat that 30min limit

I’m by no means blaming them directly, but people try to mimic they’re builds which are made for optimal damage and almost no comfy skills and of course getting the perfect hunt. You're absolutely right. I love the speedruns and speedrunners to death, but people try to mimic their builds because "OMG they're so good their build is ideal" not realizing that the build is barely half of the prep. The build won't do anything for someone who isn't GOOD at that specific monster/weapon. You could give me a godly build but make me use DB and put me against something as simple as Lagombi (fuck I hate Lagombi, easily my least favorite monster), and I'd have one hell of a bad time But give me a mid LS build, like my mixed Foray/Blood Rite/Dereliction build, against my favorite fight in the game, Espinas, and I can do decently well. Way back in 4U, I decided that I’d go after making the Azure Rathalos Light Bowgun. At the time, the meta LBG was the Seregios, and I knew why. The Seregios LBG had the ability to evade-reload and create a continuous stream of Normal 2 rapid-fire bullets. MY bowgun, on the other hand, did not have evade reload. Instead, it had a higher Raw, the ability to fire *FIVE* Normal 2’s instead of three on a barrage, rapid fire on Fire element AND on Sticky ammo (that’s right. I used the sticky meta WAY before anyone knew of its busted potential (tips fedora)), and the armor set I used made it fire extra bullets on its barrages. My gun was firing 4-6 shots off of 1 bullet. One of my shots had the ability to knock out monsters at range. When I opened up a hub to invite randoms in to hunt a Dalamadur with me, one of those randoms came in, saw my LBG, saw it wasn’t Seregios and told me outright in the chat that my bowgun setup wasn’t optimal with my gun or my skills. He then proceeded (I kid you not) to pop back to Val Habar, pick up his own LBG set (with seregios lbg), and tell me THAT was what a LBG set should be. I told him, politely, that that was fine, but I would be running with my own setup anyway. He asked me why. I told him: “Because I wreck shop with it.” He left the hub. I then proceeded to topple the Dalamadur with new randoms without him. I did so flawlessly.

If you sacrifice too much damage, the hunts will take much longer, which will also increase the probability of getting hit and dying. This is especially important in the later stages of the game where being hit will take massive chunks of your health regardless. Minimizing downtime could also be considered a form of defence.

I like the emphasis on “your playstyle”.I honestly don’t go with mixed sets because usually an entire set feels fine to me. I don’t care for optimizing cause I feel optimizing my overall skill has helped me more than decos/charms. I like the Malzeno armor mainly for its healing ability. I use longsword for the new counter and I’ve learned to time the zR+b counter without having a charge (having to time it versus just holding) and following up with a slash that finishes the combo and gives me a charge. Between heals and countering most things my scenario is 1) constant damage 2) I get hit once then heal or 3) the monster can 1 shot me anyways. For others it may be different because I have a specific playstyle, like when I did dual blades I went heavy on crit and element. I think it’s all a preference, after all you see runs where people use bad weapons and kill monsters easy with skill and you see people cart a lot with the best gear.

You can already tell that twatter here is pulling shit out of their ass by equating the term to "grinding" when the latter is a gameplay loop, not a gameplay strategem. 2) MH has always been about grinding. It's the core gameplay concept of MH since the very first game and that has never changed. Go on a quest. Get loot. Repeat ad infinitum until you get what you're looking for. If that's not grinding, then I don't know what is. Opinions can be wrong. Twatter is a classic example of a wrong opinion.

I loved the video, I always try to get 4 ATK and 3 WEX, then 4 DEF and at least 2 Evade Extender, obviously the "mandatory" skills for each weapon as well like Critical Draw and Quick Sheath on GreatSword but then as much as comfy skills as I can which means Divine Blessing, Mind's Eye for the increase in damage on bad spots, etc. There are a lot of specific sets but similar as WEX you need to play abusing that or you are getting something almost useless. Fortify is one of the best skills IMO, every single cart makes you a Super Saiyan, it makes a huge difference and the reason after 2 carts I hardly die again to fail the quest. I like to get a comfy set and have fun without neglecting the damage but I never made a set full around DPS, it made me feel bad, simple as that, going glass cannon and flinching a monster like a speedrunner can be fun few times, then it is like playing a fighting game against someone that can't block or fight back

Up until recently I was trying to play around with the very high damage builds, focusing only on offense, but as I dipped into more weapons I started to invest more into quality of life skills, like Wirebug Whisperer for Great Sword and Power Prolonger + Evade Extender for Switch Axe. Since then I’ve been messing around with tons of other skills like Spiribird’s Call, Divine Blessing, and my new personal favorite, Quick Breath. All of these just add so much ease to my playstyle it’s surprising.

My favourite skills are: evade window, evade extender and bladescale (even lvl 1). I can just focus heavily on staying close and attacking relentlessly while getting rewarded with sharpness for using I-Frames. Add Foray, Adrenaline Rush or Status Trigger to the mix and boom constant buffs and if you’re running a poison build, you get that constant health drain to fill in the gaps.

I feel like this effects newer players more than it does the people that have been around for a longer time. I've personally played for over 12-13 years now, and have maxed Hunter rank(and master rank for iceborne) 5 separate times across multiple games in the series, and I find what you're saying here to be not only extremely important for newer players to hear, but for older players to encourage. I think we have all been through that phase of 100% focus on efficiency and max dps and perfection, and some of us find that, love it and breathe it, but many of us branch out and find our own niche and selection of skills that best suit us, and I feel like that as a valid approach is sometimes lost these days. Notably, Attack Boost is *not* a flat attack increase in Rise - it's percentage based, so the higher your raw attack, the more impactful it is. This means it's far better than in World, for example. I do agree that Evade Extender is amazing, and in multiplayer, Wide Range is phenomenal, especially with the new "Hard" decorations for both three and four slot gem slots (+3 and +4, respectively).

My mandatory skills are Free Meal Stun Resist Hunger Resist Wirebug Whisper Everything else can be worked around. Unless you're a speedrunner, I never understood people who prioritize damage output over survivability when all it takes is 1 or 2 attacks to kart you. I prefer hunters who put a bit of common sense into their builds if they're not perfect players who have all the monster's attack patterns perfectly memorized. Even worse when you're with a group and the monster can randomly switch between spread out targets, making an already fast paced fight even more chaotic. The best hunter is the smartest who can't die to a wasp sting.

I love evade extender, it keep you near monster for attack when they jump around the arena and you can easily evade some sweep attack like tail sweep or spin attack that otherwise almost no way to evade if you happen to stand too close. I always have some of these skills equipped if I have any extra slot for them.
@memel4d3572 жыл бұрын
I never focus on building max attack boost or crit eye unless I'm specifically building for it. Usually just WEX, element attack 5 and crit element is all I really worry about for my builds (elemental switch axe), usually having more on comfort skills (aside from rapid morph). Very few hunts take longer than 20 minutes, most capping at around 15. As for best in the game, I'd argue evade extender 2. It allows you to match the mobility of the monsters yet not roll too far. I'd even say I rely on it.
@dimasnotowidjojo10682 жыл бұрын
i agree... Your best skills is the one you tried it yourself and which one is better on your build. Attack, CE and WE is good, but if you cant survive then why bother, dont follow speed runners build because its their best build, you are not like them. Focus on having fun, try min maxing and you get your own build. The correct answer : The best skill is having fun when playing and figuring out yourself
@faereman2 жыл бұрын
After thousands of hours in this entire series, I eventually dropped all of the comfort skills I used the most back in the day (mainly Evasion +1/2 and HG Earplugs) because I felt like I relied on them too much and doing so not only made me much better at this game but also allowed me to focus only on damaging skills (though I don't like using meta and prefer building my sets myself even if there are better options). Obviously those comfort skills are good at first to ease you up into the game, but it feels so rewarding when you can finally play well without them. Also, I've never liked Evade Extender, it messes up with my muscle memory so much lol.
@Thedarkniterises2 жыл бұрын
I scrolled and had to comment on this. I've played the game since the first installment. Invested thousands of hours in each game. My Goal is always to complete the weapon tree. I totally agree with part of your statement. To play both sides I can dodge through most roars 90% of the time and therefore don't use earplugs often. but I will say there are some instances where comfort skills really helped me in a pinch. Having earplugs or evade window offered me a moment that otherwise I wouldn't have if I didn't have it. This moment either created more damage then others, helped me build up status by allowing me to attack freely in those gaps instead of wasting time rolling, or when I overcomitted(which we all do) bailed me out and let me keep aggression up. Having defence boost and divine blessing allowed me to live attacks I should have had no business living. Ppl have said I'm a DAYUM good player, but I think on paper a lot of ppl talk but in practice it just isn't the reality. I have a lot of friends who do this and when I play with them, they cart a lot Edit: and what I mean is ppl get hit a lit more often then they lead on. Even myself.

Agreed. I was making optimized builds but they all require Protective Polish. They're great and all, but it's just one more thing to worry about (more), and I figured it's a lot less hassle to just use weapons with larger (purple) sharpness bars and slot in Razor Sharp. Although despite that, I still do try to achieve AB7, CB3, and WEX3 for my new builds. I'm not comfortable with EE (which seems to be meta now), so I never include it.

I think divine blessing is the best skill in MH. Being able to take a huge hit a good percentage of the time that you can just shake off means drinking potions less, and more uptime on the monster, which ultimately means more DPS. Obviously, if you're an elite player, you won't need it, but the rest of us can greatly benefit from it. In my mind, only two skills come close to being as good, evade extender, and wirebug whisperer.

instead of defense boost a much better skill is divine blessing 3 and eating for defender hi, every time defender hi procs you still get the divine blessing's damage reduction. and collecting spiri birbs helps too. That being said, minimum investment into damage skills is still good if you want to kill the monster in a reasonable amount of time. I don't think staying in a hunt for 30mins is particularly enjoyable.
@mungolockhart38752 жыл бұрын
Evade window is an absolutely amazing skill. Less precise timing on rolls through attacks is pretty nice for a comfy agressive playstyle. Works when you need to go on defense too. Evade extend is really hit or miss depending how much you rely on proper distance and just experience with a weapon. If you increase roll distance you can also lose any muscle memory or skill you've learned and start missing more attacks too. If you're a really uncaring person, you can just go the old school fashion hunter route and just wear what looks good while entirely skipping layered armor crafting. In the end, gear doesn't really matter. You'll reach your goal eventually.
@toraheart72062 жыл бұрын
Now I understand that you’re saying that people should prioritize skills that makes their game more confident I think there’s something that should be said about this expansion and that is that I am able to use both skills that make me feel confident, like evade extender 2 and evade window 5 as well as bloodlust, while also having all my damage skills like weakness exploit 3, critical boost 3 attack boost 7 AND handicraft 3 And sure that’s cause my tailsman has 2 evade extender with slot level 2 slots, but even if it didn’t have 2 evade extender all I would be missing is the handicraft so all I would lose is a little bit of damage. It’s really awesome how many skills you can put into builds here and I’m very excited for the updates to see how much further the game can be pushed

And for the builds I like to run, I can still upkeep an impressive amount of damage because 1. I’m not getting hit 2. Not wasting time healing 3. I get right back into the fight 4. Feels amazing darting around a monster’s ankles while slapping the shit out of it. As an SnS main, I’m pretty much up in the monster’s face 24/7 like an annoying mosquito that it can’t swat away.

To comment about a build I think is fun I want to mention Hellfire Cloak. I have a set made for every weapon and the Hellfire that's left behind after a Wiredash or some Silkbind attacks is nice for a free knock down. I don't even try to min max I'll go for Attack Boost 5 and that's all I want I might get some other skills like Weakness Exploit from armor pieces but I don't actively try to get them. I also use the Magnamalo Soul rampage deco and the Magnamalo weapons for my Hellfire sets because I like to match weapons with their unique armor skill if they have one. I like to slot in utility skills for my Hellfire sets over more offensive skills too because in the end isn't hunting all about having fun? This is a build I enjoy but I know not everyone will enjoy it and that some people enjoy the meta sets or something else entirely

Thanks to Han 7, I have found some comfortable base sets for my IG that I added Evade Extender to instead of Wirebug Whisperer. Now that I've gotten used to those skills, a lot of damage focus, I've updated them first when I got my Stun Resistance 2, Speed Sharpen 1 with two 2 Slots Charm and now with my Attack Boost 3 with a 3 and a 1 Slot Charm. Was able to squeeze out a lot more elemental and raw damage. But that's also how I enjoy playing the game. I don't care as much about being fast than I care about getting the most of the way I play. Some of my Sets have Attack Boost 6 now, without losing any of the Skills I used before, and I can't wait to test them out. Just my Fire Set wasn't upgraded.

My approach to the hunts are like this. If your looking to complete it as fast as possible your doing it for 1 of 2 reasons: 1) Speed running 2) trying to farm asap. Unless your speed running trying to do it ASAP ends in more failures of farming You could do a hunt in 3 mins but failed 15 times trying for that while Its taking me 10 mins but 100% success In the end I'm netting more mats and thus feel my time is being used effectively. Play it how you feel comfy. Its ok to not be perfect and sometimes you'll land on a perfect hunt and it feels fucking good....More so when you weren't trying for it.

The best abillity is the one that you find fun and interesting, and if its usefull, cool. I prefer defense boost over attack for example, i cannot count how many times the meta guy died instantly in a hunt bcause they only care about damage... Yesterday i made a set with evade extender, and i want to use it in another mix set, just because it allows me to repositionate myself in an instant, and i have fun doing it. Also, something to add here... use a weapon you REALLY like, not the most meta. i dont like the final boss lance, also i dont have any gem so... whatever a beatyfull weapon choice its harder than a meta one.

Totally agree with what you said man, not only is the "best skill" variable because of a player's weapon of choice and how said weapon interacts with a certain skill, but it also depends on what kind of playstyle makes the player have the most fun: just like I have fun going for flashiness and speedrun because I like to test my limits and to see what I'm capable of in the game, another player may have fine using supports skill, playing as a tank or any other playstyle really. And I think this update, with its insane quantity of content, managed to deliver for all types of players by giving all of us a way to have a lot of fun while playing and also experiment with skills we wouldn't have thought of: maybe I'll be able to fit in, let's say, hellfire cloak in my LS set, something that isn't commonly used from what I've seen, and thanks to the augmenting system I might not need to sacrifice any "important" skill in my set and I will have even more fun than I already do by adding something new and unique to my playstyle when I often focus solely on how optimal I play; same goes for a player who likes to support their fellow hunters by using wide range or any other support skills but would like to contribute more to the overall damage of the team, as they now could get levels of some offensive oriented skills and get more enjoyment out of their hunts and maybe discover a new playstyle that they enjoy which will lead to try out new things! Overall, I think that they really outdid themselves with this update, not only giving us a bandwagon of content and one hell of an endgame loop that rewards the player for hunting literally any monster in the game, but also allows said player to experiment with their builds, try out new things and just have a great time playing the game. I can't wait to see what they have in store for us in the next updates, while I have some fun hunting the new monsters, rolling for skills to further optimize my builds and enjoy my time on this wonderful game. (wow. I wrote a LOT. my bad lol, I just really enjoy this update and felt like this video sums up an opinion of mine perfectly well! My Switch Axe is Bloodlust and Mail of Hellfire and I’ve been having a lot of fun with that combo. Sure I’m a glass canon but it’s been a cool challenge and decided to make the last three pieces Crimson Glow Stuff to make the build more comfortable along with Rapid Morph. It’s a really fun set and I love it. The Bow Build is using Furious from Furious Rajang and it’s useful as hell to have infinite stamina on a bow and the legs comes with two levels of Evade Extender and it’s so nice to have. My DBs is used Elemental Exploit but the Constitution Skills from Silver Rath make everything so much easier since I get most of my DPS from being in Demon Mode. ✨
