I look at it this way. Canon launched at least 4 APS-C bodies over the last couple of years, without lenses to support them. So at least that's addressed for now. How many Sigma lenses with AF do they make for Nikon Z? None. Tamron? 3. Sigma make a bunch of crop lenses for Nikon, though. So it's the same deal. I predict Canon will team with Tamron and Sigma for a few FF lenses down the road. Maybe a year.

The Tamron lenses for Sony are fine for me. Don’t need 20fps on a 20mm lens for landscape, and if doing wildlife where high frame rate can be helpful the A7R5 body doesn’t shoot at 20fps so it matters not if the speed is constrained. Don’t shoot video except by mistake hitting the record button so breathing is not a concern, and Sony don’t make a 35-150 which is perfect when you can’t switch between 24-70 and 70-200 even with 2 bodies gives extra choice

Hey Mister K'... an initial restriction to aps-c seems like a reasonable approach, in a business sense anyway. Canon are just looking to protect their own interests and still want a bit more time to flesh out their own line of RF lenses (which is already pretty decent) ahead of opening the door fully to 3rd party manufacturers so this is a good toe-in-the-water step. I was a big fan of Sigma Art lenses back when I used the EF system, and I'd like to see some of their 'classics' adapted to RF full-frame too now that I've swapped to that platform. But even when they do there'll likely be some crippling as there was with EF mount ones... not big sacrifices but not absolutely perfect to balance the cost savings. Anyway, a sign of things to come I'd hope and imagine :) ------------ By the way, don't forget there's a bunch of older Canon and 3rd party EF mount glass, often faster than the equivalent RF lenses, but that we just need the adpapter for... simples!!

ok, a lifestory. I am an APS-C shooter, with my M50 and a Tamron 18-400 adapted with EF-M adapter. I specifically required that lens because carrying anything above my mirrorless with ONE lens (+a small 1" compact cam) is a hell I don't want to get through ever on any trip I go. I don't care about "pro" image quality or microcontrast voodoo. In fact, using Topaz's Sharpen AI or Lightroom AI Denoise gimmicks, most of this lens's shortcomings are mitigated. The only thing which sucks big time with that M50 camera is its video capabilities. I just can't accept that soft line-skipped nightmare they call video (especially with EIS on). But are there actually any cameras capable of good quality 1080p? I guess it was always a trade-off one way or another. Maybe switching to an R7 and shooting in 4K would mitigate the soft video issue once and for all. But try running Topaz Video AI on a 4K material... sometimes one would like to get rid of noise but it takes ages to process 8mpix video with AI.

The 100-500 is very well reviewed, and you're not going to find a super telephoto zoom with significantly wider apertures. You would need to jump to a very expensive, very heavy prime telephoto to handle low light shooting at distance. Consider upgrading the R body or use good NR software to reduce noise.

Maybe a controversial opinion but, aps-c should be where they focus video and casual compact travel, snap, and doc photography. Neither of those require high mega pixels or high grade lenses. They barely require an EVF. Just a nice wide zoom, one standard 16-80 f4 internal zoom for gimbal people, and a handful of small f2 primes and 2.8 pancakes from 12mm to 90mm. Leave the bokeh and megapixels to full frame, focus on low light performance. Make the options compact like the M6II, M200, or R50. Make ONE mega sized sports and wildlife aps-c a decade and support it with firmware, then let those nerds use full frame tele lenses, since they always want bigger kit. 🌈 Clear Segmentation ✨

Trying to knock a few competitive bucks off their camera bodies to get people into their system is fine, but Canon soaks the heck out of it's customers when it comes to lenses.
